The launch strengthens Samsung's positioning in the high-end display market and highlights the company's continued leadership in QLED technology.
Topping the range is the Neo QLED 8K QN990F, featuring Samsung's most advanced display innovations to date.
This model incorporates the new NQ8 AI Gen3 Processor, 8K AI Upscaling Pro, and Vision AI - all designed to autonomously optimise picture and sound quality. Also debuting is the first 8K Wireless One Connect Box, enabling clutter-free installation with wireless signal transmission up to 10 metres.
"While outstanding picture quality and immersive sound remain essential, today's Kiwi consumers are looking for much more when choosing a TV," Tura Gim, Group Head of TV & Digital Appliances, Samsung New Zealand, said.
"Features like seamless access to a wide range of apps, enhanced connectivity, and user-friendly design have become increasingly important. Samsung's Vision AI brings all of these elements together, offering intelligent, adaptive capabilities that redefine what a TV can do - delivering a more personalised and autonomous experience with every use."
The QN990F is joined by the QN900F, both offering 33 million pixels, Dolby Atmos audio, and Pantone-validated visuals with Samsung's glare-free technology.
The QN900F features a near-flush metal frame, catering to high-end customers seeking seamless integration into modern living spaces.
At the core of Samsung's display innovation is its proprietary QLED technology, developed over more than a decade. Quantum Dot LED (QLED) technology delivers exceptional colour accuracy, brightness, and contrast—making it an ideal choice for premium displays used in gaming, film, and high dynamic range (HDR) content.
"Samsung continues to set the standard for performance and reliability in the premium TV market," said Mr Gim.
"By applying our most advanced quantum dot innovations, the 2025 Neo QLED 8K and 4K ranges deliver an experience that is not only visually stunning but highly intelligent and responsive to the way users watch and interact with content."
This year's Neo QLED 4K line-up also sees notable performance enhancements.
The flagship QN90F, available up to 98 inches, introduces the NQ4 AI Gen3 Processor for improved upscaling, visual clarity and adaptive sound.
The QN80F's 100-inch model and the QN90F's 98-inch model include AI-driven Supersize Picture Enhancer, ensuring crisp detail is maintained across larger screens - an increasingly important factor for premium consumers investing in home cinema setups.
Samsung's Motion Xcelerator technology, now up to 240Hz on select models, targets demanding gamers and sports fans, while Neo Quantum HDR+ and Quantum Matrix Mini LEDs ensure high contrast and dynamic range in dark and bright scenes alike.
Samsung's QLED evolution also extends to its lifestyle range. The Frame Pro, a newly upgraded version of the popular art-focused TV, brings Neo QLED 4K technology and the NQ4 AI Gen3 Processor to a model known for its aesthetic versatility.
It's the first art TV to offer wireless 4K transmission and is Pantone ArtfulColour validated for realistic art reproduction. A 144Hz refresh rate and Motion and Brightness Sensors combine performance with energy efficiency and ambient adaptability.
The entire 2025 Neo QLED and QLED TV range now offers access to Samsung's Art Store, previously limited to The Frame series, transforming even flagship models into digital galleries.
Generative Wallpaper, powered by Vision AI, allows viewers to create customised visuals based on their tastes - bridging technology and personal expression.
For those prioritising security in their connected homes, all 2025 models are protected by Samsung Knox, the company's enterprise-grade security platform. With every new SmartThings-compatible device connected, Knox protection expands, helping users create a secure and integrated smart home environment centred around their TV.
As part of its long-standing quantum dot development, Samsung has continued to refine its materials and display architecture.
Since introducing the world's first cadmium-free quantum dot displays in 2015, the company has invested heavily in research, resulting in over 150 patents and key breakthroughs including blue self-emitting QLEDs - historically the most difficult to manufacture.
"Samsung's distinctive quantum dot technology has once again overcome technical barriers," Dr Eunjoo Chang, a fellow at Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, said in an earlier company statement regarding quantum dot innovation.
"These discoveries are helping us redefine picture quality and display longevity for the premium market."
With the 2025 range now available from leading retailers, Samsung is aiming to solidify its status as the global leader in premium televisions.
For technology enthusiasts, gamers, and cinephiles alike, Samsung's new QLED line-up is designed to deliver cutting-edge performance, intelligent features, and sleek design - which meets expectations of premium users. As the global leader in TV innovation and the driving force behind QLED technology, Samsung continues to set the benchmark for picture quality and viewing experience.

Samsung is looking into more AI devices - potentially including earrings and necklaces

By Lisa Eadicicco , CNN A man tries on smart glasses capable of real-time translation. Photo: Lian Yi / Xinhua via AFP Samsung is looking into new wearable devices, potentially including earrings and necklaces, amid an industry-wide push to develop new types of AI-powered consumer electronics. AI could enable a new wave of devices that allow users to communicate and get things done more quickly without having to take out a phone, Won-joon Choi, chief operating officer for Samsung's mobile experience division, told CNN this week. For Samsung, these types of new devices could be something you wear around your neck, dangle from your ears or slip on your finger . "We believe it should be wearable, something that you shouldn't carry, (that) you don't need to carry," he said. "So it could be something that you wear, glasses, earrings, watches, rings and sometimes (a) necklace." Choi's comments underscore the opportunity tech giants see to develop new hardware products around AI, a technology that some say is expected to be as impactful as the internet itself. AI services like OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini have moved beyond basic text prompts and are getting better at handling complex tasks. That's led tech giants to look into devices that require less manual input than smartphones, which largely require typing and swiping on screens. That search is already in full swing, starting with smart glasses. Meta has touted its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses, of which 2 million have been sold since 2023, as a success. The Facebook parent also recently acquired a minority stake in Ray-Ban parent company EssilorLuxottica, according to Bloomberg, further indicating the company's interest in AI-powered wearable gadgets. Samsung, Google and Snap are also developing smart glasses, while OpenAI and ex-Apple designer Jony Ive are collaborating on a mysterious new AI device for next year. When CNN asked Choi whether Samsung is actively looking into developing earrings or other smart jewelry, like a pendant or bracelet, Choi said the company is "looking at all kinds of possibilities". "What do you wear? Glasses, earrings… necklaces, watches and rings, something like those," he said. However, that doesn't mean those possibilities will become products. Samsung and other tech companies routinely develop prototypes and evaluate new technologies internally without bringing them to market. Some tech startups have already unsuccessfully tried to develop new AI gadgets to replace smartphones at certain tasks. The Humane AI Pin, created by a pair of Apple veterans, flopped because of its high price and buggy performance. The company shut down the product and sold parts of itself to computing giant HP in February. Another device called the Rabbit R1 also launched to a lackluster reception last year, although it's undergone significant updates since then. And a startup called Friend created an AI necklace that's meant to be a digital companion, although its launch has been delayed until the third quarter of this year. Samsung's approach, unlike some of these options, will involve a device that's a companion to your phone rather than a standalone product, similar to the company's smartwatches, according to Choi. And the company's upcoming smart glasses, which it hasn't revealed many details about yet, could be just the start. "We are actively working on glasses, but some people do not want to wear glasses because they change their look," he said. "So we are also exploring other types of devices." - CNN

Android 16 introduces new design, Gemini features and security

Google has kicked off its I/O season with the announcement of Android 16, revealing a major redesign, broader integration of its Gemini assistant, and new safety features. Speaking during the Android Show: I/O Edition, Sameer Samat, President of the Android Ecosystem, noted the platform's continued global reach with "more than 3 billion active devices in over 190 countries." "Android devices are always pushing the industry forward," said Samat. "It's the platform where you see the future first." A key focus of the announcement was the debut of Material 3 Expressive, which Android's Mindy described as "the biggest evolution of our design language in years." She explained, "Android's beautiful new design is flexible and customisable to reflect your personality and style." Material 3 Expressive introduces updated colour themes, typography, and responsive animations across phones and wearables. "You'll see more natural and springy animations… just look at those silky smooth physics and the soft haptic rumble," she said. A new notification feature called Live Updates will also "highlight what you need to know so you can stay focused about what you care about," including real-time updates from apps like Uber Eats. Wearables are also being refreshed with Wear OS 6, bringing Material 3 Expressive to round watch displays. "Notice how every element, from buttons to notifications, embrace the circular screen," said Mindy, adding that it offers "up to 10% battery improvement" due to platform-level optimisations. The Gemini assistant has been deeply integrated across the Android experience. "It isn't just an app, like on some other phones," said a presenter. "It's a powerful assistant, just one press away." Available in over 40 languages, Gemini Live allows users to share their screen or camera feed to receive real-time support. One demonstration showed Gemini extracting information from a lengthy email to determine lunch plans: "It looks like lunch is scheduled for 1 p.m. in the Google cafeteria and it's a buffet." Gemini Live also provides advice through camera view. "The sponge is for blending, the bottle is foundation… and the small jar is concealer," Gemini responded when shown a collection of makeup items. Beyond phones and watches, Gemini is expanding to other platforms. "In the coming months we're bringing Gemini to your watch on Wear OS," one speaker said. "Later this year, Gemini capabilities are coming to your TV too," and eventually to Android XR, Google's upcoming extended reality platform developed in collaboration with Samsung. The announcement also highlighted cross-device connectivity, such as seamless messaging through RCS, now the messaging standard on Android and iOS. "In the US alone, there are more than a billion RCS messages sent every day," Samat noted. On the security front, Android is rolling out new protections against scams, malware, and theft. "Android detects [fraudulent calls] and gives you a real-time alert," said Stella, a presenter covering security updates. Scam detection has now expanded to text conversations and is processed "entirely on your device." The Find My Device network is being rebranded as Find Hub, with new features for tracking personal items, checking loved ones' locations, and viewing shared tags. "Find Hub was designed with safety in mind," said Stella. She also confirmed satellite connectivity is coming to Find Hub later this year. Samat concluded the show by calling Android 16 "one of the biggest Android updates ever." He stated, "Watch out for updates coming to your Pixel devices starting next month, with Samsung and many others this summer." The Android Show closed with a look at recent Android-powered devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, Pixel 9a, and Motorola Razr Ultra, all featuring Gemini integration. As Dieter Bohn noted during the device showcase, "It's not just that some of the best phones you can get right now run Android… it's also that there's an incredible diversity of devices so you can pick something that actually fits your vibe."
