Nadine Coyle: 'I'll honour Sarah Harding forever'

Metro19 hours ago
Nadine Coyle has vowed to honour Sarah Harding in everything she does, almost five years on from the Girls Aloud star's death.
The beloved pop star died in September 2021 at the age of 39 after being diagnosed with breast cancer in August the previous year.
Since then, her Sound of the Underground bandmates—Nadine, Cheryl, Kimberley Walsh, and Nicola Roberts—have fundraised in her memory and continue to keep her alive through the group's music.
Speaking exclusively to Metro, Nadine, 40, has now declared that 'Sarah will always be honoured' by the girls.
It comes after she and her fellow bandmates, who were put together on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002, completed a 30-date tour across the UK and Ireland as a four-piece.
Titled The Girls Aloud Show, it was their first tour as a quartet and consisted of all their major hits, also including emotional tributes to Harding throughout.
On why Harding simply had to feature in the set, Nadine told us: 'It's so important. She's such a huge part of the band in so many ways, and to not have her there is very surreal.'
'Even talking about it still feels surreal that that's the way that it is,' she admitted.
'And definitely some of the rehearsals and bits that Sarah and I would usually do together, I was doing it with Nicola, and it was difficult; those were some tough days.
'But we definitely knuckled down and tried to just see it for how important it was that we did the tour and did it for Sarah and spent time with the fans.'
Nadine has never made any secret of her love for Girls Aloud, declaring even today that it's 'great to still be doing it all these years later'.
She added that it's still just as 'fun' to be part of one of the UK's biggest girl bands, despite the 'hard parts' fans aren't privy to.
'You don't see all the work or all the things that go into it, but that's, like, anything. You don't get to see behind the screen and see everybody's jobs.'
Nadine proceeded to shrug off 'concerns' with her identity beyond the group, saying she 'feels very confident in [herself] and who [she] is'.
'I have never really had to overthink my identity because it's there. I think if I had been concerned enough to try and conform or try to have myself be something more palatable, I reckon this accent would've gone a long time ago, and it hasn't!', she joked.
This summer, the Derry-born musician will headline the Clapham Grand Pride Day Party as part of their celebrations for the LGBTQ+ community.
Having always had a loyal LGBTQ+ following, Nadine is no stranger to performing at a Pride event, admitting that it 'wouldn't be summer' without it.
'lt's my third time doing the Clapham Grand, and every time I've done it, it's been such a fun time, and this one, you'll have London Pride, then it will come to Clapham, and you can have a great night there, and we can all hang out together again and have a wonderful time.'
Asked about the importance of being an LGBTQ+ ally, Nadine said it's not something that ever 'comes into question'. More Trending
'It is just what it is. It's as natural as anything in the world for me.
'I am so proud of my friends and people who have faced struggles that mean we all get to live in this somewhat peaceful existence.
'I'm really up for people having themselves be whoever it is they feel natural being and enjoying that, and I hope that for myself, and I hope that for everybody else.'
Nadine Coyle returns to The Clapham Grand to headline their Pride Day Party on Saturday, July 5, from 5-10pm, as part of the venue's biggest ever day of Pride celebrations. Get all tickets here.

Rod Stewart opens up on heartbreak with ex-wife Rachel that 'tore him to shreds'

Rod Stewart said Rachel Hunter left him because she was too young when they married Sir Rod Stewart has opened up about the heartbreak he endured following the end of his marriage to second wife Rachel Hunter. The 80-year-old rock legend, who first tied the knot with Alana Hamilton in 1979, reflected on the painful split and how it shaped the next chapter of his life, both personally and professionally, Mirror reports. ‌ Rod and Alana, the mother of his children Kimberly and Sean, divorced in 1984. Years later, he married New Zealand-born model Rachel Hunter, who was just 21 at the time, 26 years his junior. Rod was 45. ‌ The couple went on to have two children together: daughter Renee and son Liam. Despite their early whirlwind romance, the marriage didn't last. The couple separated in 1999, and their divorce was finalised in 2006. Rod has now revealed how devastated he was by the split, admitting, 'Rachel left me because she was too young. My sister said I should never have married her in the first place, but it tore me to shreds.' Interestingly, it was just a day after his separation from Rachel that Rod met his current wife, Penny Lancaster. Recalling their first meeting, he told The Times that she had asked for his autograph. He then asked her if she liked dancing. 'She was an incredible dancer, gorgeous, [and wearing] 6ft 4in heels,' he said fondly, describing the moment with clear affection. ‌ However, the rocker was advised not to rush into anything serious so soon. 'There were six months between Rachel and Penny because my bass player, who had Penny's number, wouldn't give it to me,' he revealed. 'He said, 'All you're going to do now is s**g around.' And he was right, I had a splendid time in those six months.' ‌ Rod eventually reconnected with Penny, and the two tied the knot in 2007. They now share two sons, Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14. Describing his wife of 18 years, Rod said she's 'got everything' he has ever wanted in a partner, and that their relationship has grown stronger with time. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Most recently, she was there by his side at Glastonbury as he performed the coveted legends slot on the Pyramid Stage. Their sons were also there to cheer him on, along with Renee and Ruby, Rod's daughter from his relationship with model Kelly Emberg. The couple also marked their 18th wedding anniversary with a lavish trip aboard the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express. The journey retraced the romantic milestones of their relationship, from Rod's proposal in Paris, to their wedding in Portofino, and the honeymoon that followed aboard a luxury yacht along the Italian coast, celebrating a love that has endured.

Taskmaster 2025 winner reveals what you didn't see in 'best season ever'

Taskmaster season 19 has come to a triumphant end with BBC star Mathew Baynton celebrating an epic victory. The Ghosts actor, 44, won the top spot and a bust of host Greg Davies' head as his reward after undergoing ten weeks of gruelling (and baffling) tasks against his co-stars and fellow comedians. Following behind Mathew's winning 169 points was comedian Stevie Martin with 154 points (who separately won the final episode). In third place was US star Jason Mantzoukas with 150 points, then Rosie Ramsey with 149 points and, coming in last, we had Greg's almost-wife Fatiha El-Ghorri with a respectable 141 points. 'I'm just really happy. I was having so much fun…' Mat told Metro about his victory ahead of the final episode. He joins an exclusive group of past Taskmaster winners including Ed Gamble, Katherine Ryan, Dara Ó Briain and Mae Martin. The Horrible Histories actor wowed audiences, sidekick little Alex Horne, his fellow competitors and, most importantly of all, the titular maestro himself, Greg, to secure the victory on the Channel 4 reality series. The actor has gone viral among the Taskmaster fandom (and beyond) more than once this season for his iconic behaviour – including one task where he and Alex transform from caterpillars into butterflies. Responding to the fan reaction, he said: 'It is lovely and with that one in particular (as with so many of them) I have to big up the team because they're such amazing artists that they take these videos you have and just do such a brilliant job. '[There's] no time, really, to prepare… I was like, 'oh, let's turn into butterflies'' and 'ten minutes later you're in these costumes filming them, and Chrissy, the makeup artist, made us look so funny. 'The brilliance of it is 10% the contestant and 90% the Taskmaster team, who are just a bunch of geniuses.' He added that 'if people knew how it was made, they'd be so much more in awe of that team just making it incredible.' Whether coming up with perfectly executed task prizes (like his fakeout with the biggest anticlimax) or proving his utmost commitment to the tasks no matter how absurd, the Yonderland star brought the skills needed to climb the ranks. For him, however, the most 'humiliating' moments were when had 'messed up' on a task without even realising. 'There was a task where I thought I had done triumphantly well, but I had inexplicably moved a wheelie bin, disqualifying myself in the process or when I shouted 'everybody' to lead along a sing along of a song that I wrote that took me one word over the word limit,' he explained. The Horrible Histories icon ended the final episode to raucous cheers from the live audience before going in for a passionate snog with his newly-acquired trophy. During the finale, the contestants had to bring in 'the thing most likely to make you do a double-take'; fill a box with yellow sand (with multiple catches of course); strike and hold a pose for 10 whole minutes and set up an unconventional drive-through service. Oh, and shoving a dangling carrot into a bucket without the use of your hands. So, business as usual. His victory comes at the end of a season that has been widely praised by viewers as the best season in a long time, if not ever – something he is thrilled about. 'Taskmaster season 19 is hands down the best season ngl I really don't want it to end,' spaceyeurotrash wrote on X. 'This series has been one of the best in ages,' jessatkinson92 echoed. 'Love this cast dearly, my favourite series,' ellasrhapsody declared. 'S19 has just been such a joy. Every new ep is the greatest episode so far, and the chemistry between the cast is just so excellent. I don't want this series to end,' sulcusandjirehs added. 'Season 19 Taskmaster is a stone cold classic already,' tarteaucitron2x echoed. 'Difficult to believe that this series of Taskmaster is almost over, arguably one of the best of the past three years,' bromley001 reflected. 'I love them so much pls can we have another 10 episodes I'm not ready for it to be over,' fern praised. 'That's just really gratifying,' Mat said about the widespread praise. 'You can never control how people perceive or receive anything. I prepared to have as much fun as I could, and then try and cover my ears and my eyes and just ignore whatever response there might be to it. 'So it's a huge relief when you dare to take a peek and find that people are saying nice things.' He added that he had initially felt 'slightly worried about feeling self-conscious' but was 'delighted [he] was able to get over it and enjoy it.' More Trending Although he joked: 'I still think my career going forward, as long as I haven't destroyed the possibility of people taking me seriously as an actor, will be in fiction characters.' There will be a 20th season landing on Channel 4 sometime later this year and the line-up has officially been confirmed. Breakthrough comic Ania Magliano, presenter Maisie Adam, Phil Ellis, Inside No, 9 star Reece Shearsmith and actor Sanjeev Bhaskar will join Greg and Alex for the new season. Taskmaster is available to stream on Channel 4. Got a story?
