Should you exclude the humble potato entirely from your diet? Recently, nutritionist Amita Gadre took to her Instagram page to reveal the truth and clear the confusion once and for all.

Can A Diabetic Eat Potatoes?
So, now the question arises: can potatoes be a part of a diabetes diet? Amita explains that potatoes contain complex carbohydrates, but they primarily consist of starch, which gets digested quickly. Whether you enjoy them boiled, par-boiled, fried or in any other form, the starch in them breaks down rapidly, causing a spike in blood sugar levels. Due to this reason, she recommends diabetics avoid or limit their intake of potatoes.
What's The Healthiest Way To Consume Potatoes?
The healthiest way to enjoy potatoes is by baking, roasting, par-boiling or boiling them. These methods help preserve their nutrients and avoid adding unhealthy fats. However, this doesn't mean they won't cause any spikes in your blood sugar levels. According to the nutritionist, the basic nature of starch persists even if you use a healthy cooking method. To prevent spikes in blood sugar, she suggests pairing potatoes with vegetables or a source of protein.

Which Potatoes Are Best For Diabetes?
The market is filled with different varieties of potatoes, and deciding which one is the best option for you can be tricky. For diabetics, sweet potatoes and waxy potatoes like Carisma and Nicola are considered better choices. They have a lower glycaemic index (GI) and contain less starch compared to white potatoes like Russet.
How To Make Potatoes Insulin Resistant?
To make potatoes more suitable for insulin resistance, opt for baking, boiling or roasting instead of frying, and pair potatoes with protein-rich foods or veggies to balance out carbs. Eating smaller portions and adding herbs and spices for flavour can also help manage carb intake and make potatoes a part of an insulin-resistant diet.

The company, Victoria's Vitality — known for its health and beauty products — had organised the session as a team-bonding exercise. However, the move quickly drew criticism from users, who raised concerns about the safety and well-being of the employees involved. Shivering and struggling, she tried to motivate herself through the discomfort by repeating: 'I must be myself. I need to break through. I'm not afraid of pain or hardship. I'm not afraid to cross this road.' As the ten-minute ordeal concluded, Ngosak was unable to stand on her own, with colleagues having to carry her by the arms and massage her reddened legs to help her recover. Company and organiser defend the activity Following the online uproar, Victoria's Vitality founder Belinda Feng took to Instagram to defend the activity. Responding to accusations that the ice bath was unsafe or cult-like in nature, Feng insisted that the exercise was conducted under professional supervision. 'We're not a cult. We're just a group of women who work hard for our dreams,' she stated. 'You can laugh at us and criticise all you want, but we will keep working hard for our dreams.' Ngosak herself echoed this sentiment, reiterating that the session was safe and overseen by an expert. However, she stressed that such challenges should not be attempted without professional guidance. Ice bath provider addresses safety concerns The cold plunge setup was provided by Warrior Plunge, a business specialising in ice baths and saunas. Its founder, David Lai, also shared an Instagram reel clarifying the role his company played. 'The honest truth to me is that, nobody got harmed, not a single person got injured, and not one single girl in the video walked away with a flu,' Lai wrote. 'The cold plunge is not for everyone. Just like Durian. Don't do it if you have a serious heart issue.' He further added that adults are responsible for their own choices: 'Nobody can force you to do something you don't want to do. You own your own experience — good or bad.'

Hormone shifts in perimenopause can spark these phantom odours,' Dr Sood wrote in the caption, highlighting a phenomenon that has left many women puzzled and concerned. In his post, Dr Sood explains that this strange experience is called phantosmia, or phantom odour perception. It refers to the sensation of smelling something, such as smoke, chemicals, or burning, despite no real source being present. 'Phantom smells during perimenopause are real,' he says, adding: 'Some women report suddenly noticing strange odours like smoke, chemicals, or something burning when there's nothing actually there.' What causes these phantom smells? According to Dr Sood, this occurs when the brain misinterprets signals from the olfactory system, essentially creating a smell out of thin air. The underlying cause during perimenopause is often fluctuating estrogen levels, which can affect the olfactory nerves that control our sense of smell. Hormonal imbalances may also lead to dryness and inflammation in the nasal passages, further disrupting the way smell is processed and perceived. 'This can also happen after a head injury or illness,' Dr Sood says, and adds, 'But hormone shifts are a well-recognised contributor, especially in women navigating perimenopause.'
