Ahead of civic polls, Maharashtra BJP chief stakes claim for KDMC mayor's post
BJP's Maharashtra president and Dombivli MLA Ravindra Chavan on Sunday made a strong statement during a party induction event held in Kalyan. Chavan asserted that the BJP must lead KDMC to overcome the regional development challenges. "It is essential that the next mayor of KDMC comes from the BJP to ensure effective governance and rapid progress," Chavan said.
The event also marked the entry of prominent social worker Jatin Prajapati into the BJP, along with hundreds of his supporters from other political parties.
Prajapati, who was active in Kalyan's civic and social circles for over two decades, is expected to boost BJP's grassroots strength in the city.

Chavan further added that under the leadership of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra is witnessing a strong wave of development, which is attracting leaders and social workers from other parties into the BJP fold. He urged the party cadre to work cohesively to make the entire Kalyan region a BJP stronghold.

Notably, a majority of the former Shiv Sena corporators in KDMC are now affiliated with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction. Shinde's son and Kalyan MP Dr Shrikant Shinde is also actively working to expand the party's presence in the region.
With the BJP now aggressively mobilising at the local level under Chavan's leadership, and being the second-largest party in KDMC previously, a competitive showdown between the two alliance partners appears inevitable. Soon after the Supreme Court slammed Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his alleged remarks on the Indian Army, the BJP on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Congress leader, questioning if he is helping enemy nations, instead of protecting the sovereignty of India. Addressing a press conference, BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia said the Supreme Court's rap shows that Gandhi need to be 'careful' with his future statements. 'Certainly, Mr (Rahul) Gandhi needs to be more careful in future… the question arises — does India deserve a better leader of opposition. The question arises — as a leader of Opposition, who has taken oath under the Constitution to protect the sovereignty of the country is destroying the sovereignty of our country,' he said. He also added: 'Is he helping the nations that are inimical to our country. and is he demoralising the brave Indian armed forces. What kind of leader of Opposition he is, who makes such irresponsible statement?' The apex court stayed the proceedings in a criminal defamation case against Gandhi over his alleged remarks on the Army over the 2020 Galwan clash with the Chinese. Presiding over a two-judge bench, Justice Dipankar Datta told Senior Advocate A M Singhvi, who appeared for the Congress leader, 'We have read the comments… Tells us… How do you get to know that 2000 square kilometres of Indian territory have been occupied by the Chinese?
