Nicholas Hoult confirms no return as Beast in Avengers: Doomsday, praises Kelsey Grammer's legacy

Nicholas Hoult, currently starring as Lex Luthor in DC's Superman, confirmed Marvel Studios never contacted him to reprise his role as Beast in Avengers: Doomsday. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Hoult bluntly answered "No" when asked about discussions. Despite playing the blue-furred mutant in four X-Men films (2011–2019), he noted Kelsey Grammer's version was the one he grew up watching. Marvel's March casting announcement revealed that Grammer and original X-Men actors, Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), and James Marsden (Cyclops), will return instead. Hoult expressed no bitterness, calling it "fun" to see their integration into the MCU. Hoult praised Grammer's iconic portrayal, calling him "a great Beast" and emphasizing his childhood connection to the original cast. "Those were the characters I got to watch," he added, excited for their MCU roles. Grammer first played Beast in 2006's X-Men: The Last Stand and returned via a post-credits scene. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hinted last November that Doomsday would feature legacy mutants before Secret Wars launches a 'new age of X-Men'. The film also includes other Fox-era stars like Rebecca Romijn (Mystique) and Alan Cumming (Nightcrawler), with Channing Tatum's Gambit joining from Deadpool & Wolverine. Avengers: Doomsday sidelines prequel-era X-Men actors (like Hoult, James McAvoy, and Michael Fassbender) to spotlight the original Fox cast for their multiverse swan song. Directed by the Russo Brothers, the film unites Grammer's Beast with MCU veterans (Chris Hemsworth's Thor, Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom) and new heroes (Pedro Pascal's Mister Fantastic). Hoult's focus remains on DC, where he'll continue as Superman's nemesis Lex Luthor beyond Gunn's 2025 reboot . Doomsday hits theaters December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars in 2027.

Did Henry Cavill and Tyler Hoechlin give David Corenswet any advice for playing Superman? Actor has this to say

Fans are eagerly waiting to see how David Corenswet fares as the brand new Superman. He has some huge shoes to fill, given the fan-favourite superhero has been previously played by actors like Christopher Reeve, Dean Cain, Brandon Routh, Tyler Hoechlin, and Henry Cavill. In an interaction with People on the red carpet for the movie's London premiere, David has now revealed that he exchanged letters with Tyler and Henry before taking on the role. (Also read: James Gunn reacts to Zack Snyder fans trying to spoil Superman's box office: 'It's all right to have an opposing force') David Corenswet plays the new Superman in the James Gunn film. David said that the two actors who previously took on the role of Superman wished him luck for the new adventure. He revealed, 'I was lucky enough to exchange letters with Tyler Hoechlin and Henry Cavill, two fellows who have played Superman before me. They both, in their way, sort of refrained from giving advice.' He went on to add, 'There's not much advice that we can give, you know? You sort of have to do your own thing. But it was really wonderful to get words of encouragement from them and then to be able to write to them and talk about how appreciative I was of the way that they had stewarded the character in their time.' Henry Cavill played Superman in three films and had a cameo within the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). He portrayed the character in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, and made a cameo appearance in Black Adam. Meanwhile, Tyler played the iconic superhero in The CW's show Supergirl, before getting his own spinoff, Superman & Lois. The upcoming Superman film, written, directed, and co-produced by James, will explore the journey of Clark Kent, portrayed by David Corenswet, as he grapples with his Kryptonian heritage and his life in Smallville with his adoptive family. It also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, while Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor. Superman is set for release on July 11.
