What The Current Nostalgia-Fest Reveals About Millennial Power

Is there a hole in the space-time continuum? Consider the evidence. Freaky Friday (2003) is back, in the form of this year's Freakier Friday . Anne Hathaway is filming a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada (2006). Pamela Anderson, goddess of the Nineties, is everywhere.
We're hooked on Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte (on And Just Like That , but always with Sex and the City in our hearts – 1998 to 2004, may it rest in peace). Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1997 to 2003) is being resurrected, while Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson, aka Joey and Pacey ( Dawson's Creek , 1998 to 2003) have cracked open our jaded hearts by being photographed together amid reports of a new project.
Oasis are back, as are The Verve and Pulp, and Topshop is planning a return to the high street. So what year is it anyway? And why are we swimming in pop culture from the turn of the millennium?
If you're in your late thirties or forties, you're probably finding this déjà vu quite comforting. Here are all the shows, bands and stars we loved so dearly in the most tender years of our lives, and they've produced a whole load of delicious new content. Seeing these moments on social media and consuming them with our friends feels great too; researchers have shown that nostalgia boosts our feeling of 'social connectedness'.
Still, the sheer quantity of it is a bit weird right now. Though we loved our teenage obsessions, we dutifully let them go many years ago; now we like The Bear and Pedro Pascal and Charli XCX. We didn't expect them all to come back.
If you want to make sense of it, you need to know that people spend money more easily when they're nostalgic. Studies suggest that the warm sense of community makes our need for cash feel less important. No wonder TV execs, film studios and record labels want reboots: retro stuff is big, lucrative business.
This glut of culture from 25 years ago, then, tells us exactly whose money they're after. Yes, Generation Z is enjoying it all for the first time, but the main target is an audience of millennials and Generation X. Last year, NielsenIQ and World Data Lab found that millennials (then aged 29 to 44) held 22.5% of the global population's spending power, and Gen X (then 45 to 60) another 23.5%. That's 46% of the world's spending coming from 41% of the population: we punch above our weight.
It's good news for anyone who's been feeling a bit middle-aged. We're actually entering our most economically powerful years, or our 'The world is designed for us' era. Culturally, we couldn't be more relevant – you could say we've been rebooted.

Danny Jones and wife Georgia Horsley look loved-up on family night out at Oasis' Wembley show in first major public outing together since his 'drunken kiss' with Maura Higgins

Danny Jones and his wife Georgia Horsley put on a loved-up display as they enjoyed a night out at Oasis' Wembley Stadium show on Friday night. The McFly singer, 39, and the podcaster, 38, seem to have put Danny's 'drunken kiss' behind them after keeping out of the limelight for the past four months. After mostly refraining from sharing photos of each other on social media, they finally shared snaps together at a reunion with Georgia's family earlier this month. And now, they have been catching up with Danny's mother Kathy as the trio headed to watch Oasis' first of seven reunion shows at Wembley Stadium. In their first high-profile outing together since the scandal, Danny and Georgia appeared happier than ever in a black-and-white picture shared to Instagram. They gazed lovingly at one another while Kathy stood in the middle of them as they all shared a laugh together ahead of the concert. Georgia looked Oasis ready as she was kitted out in full Adidas garb, sporting a white T-shirt and red shorts. 'How much Adidas is too much Adidas??' she quipped in a post shared to her Instagram Stories. The family were also joined by singer Anthony Kluge, who has co-written songs with McFly, as he posted a video of Danny singing Stand By Me to his Instagram. They joined a whole host of celebrities attending the Oasis show- including Fearne Cotton, Rob Beckett and David Walliams - in their first major outing together in months. Danny and Georgia appear to be back on track after they weathered a rough patch following Danny's snog with his I'm A Celeb co-star Maura at the BRITs afterparty in February. Just days before the gig, Danny and Georgia took to social media to share a photograph of them together as they caught up with her family. The shot showed Danny and Georgia standing in a crowd of relatives, including seven-year-old son Cooper, while both beamed for the camera. She captioned the post: 'And then there was 17. My family are dotted all over the world so getting all of us together at once is near on impossible which makes days like this even more special. 'Cousins, aunties, uncles, parents, husbands, wives, kids… my house was full and my heart happy. Missed you Si.' The couple were last seen together publicly in March and looked tense on a walk, just days after the singer's kiss with Maura was revealed. Last month, Danny shared his first photo of Georgia since the scandal broke in a photo that showed their son running around the garden, whilst Georgia could be seen relaxing in the sunshine. Georgia, who has kept quiet throughout the scandal, posted a picture of her father and one of Danny to celebrate Father's Day earlier the same month, in another sign that the couple have weathered the storm. At the end of May, Georgia gave an insight into her 'life lately' with an update - but failed to mention the McFly star. She shared a series of recent photos with Cooper and her friends - with Danny notably missing. She captioned the post: 'Life lately… Friends, family, filming, fresh air and fun… lots of lovely fun.' Danny and Georgia's marriage was rocked after the I'm A Celeb winner shared a drunken kiss with campmate Maura at a Universal Records party. Further reports claimed the pair had continued their night until 6am, sharing wine together at Nobu Hotel bar. West London home, where Georgia moved to on her own as he appeared on the ITV jungle series in December. Sources told MailOnline in the weeks after the scandal that despite their efforts, Danny and Georgia were like 'passing ships' and friends feared their relationship was hanging on by a thread. A source told MailOnline: 'Danny and Georgia have been trying to navigate a very difficult time in their marriage and for the best part they have been taking each day as it comes. 'They may be living under the same roof, but they barely see each other and right now are like passing ships. 'Danny is preparing for his summer gigs with McFly, and Georgia has been attending influencer events and collaborating with brands, all while looking after son, Cooper, who regularly features on her Instagram profile. 'But when they're not working, Danny is out on his motorbike or exercising in the gym, and Georgia is either on her own or spending time with family and girlfriends. 'They haven't actually been publicly seen together for six weeks and behind the scenes, their relationship is anything but normal.' Georgia, who is a former Miss England, temporarily moved out of the family home in the wake of the kissing scandal. But after deciding to give their marriage a second chance, she returned to the property as sources claimed Danny was willing to do 'anything to make it work'.
