Harry Potter fans only now spot 'major flaw' in one of series' biggest moments
A "major flaw" has been found by fans of Harry Potter, who think one of the series' biggest moments is lacking. The Daniel Radcliffe -starring series spanned eight films and HBO are set to revive the J.K. Rowling book series with a remake, but fans are wondering whether a "huge error" will be rectified in the upcoming HBO remake.
Harry Potter fans took to Reddit to discuss the issue, which can be traced all the way back to the books. An "unpopular opinion" was posted to the r/HarryPotter subreddit, where fans believe they have uncovered a huge problem with the fictional game, Quidditch.
The game Quidditch appears in the Harry Potter series frequently, and features two teams of wizards attempting to score points by netting various balls in three hoops. But the Golden Snitch, a crucial plot element and part of the fictional game, has some detractors.
One user wrote: "The rule/function of the golden snitch in Quidditch is stupid and completely ruins what would otherwise be an awesome sport to watch.
"Imagine if in basketball each team had a player out in the parking lot trying to catch a frog for the win. You're watching a great gamer that's been neck and neck and then suddenly the buzzer sounds halfway through. 'The game is over, Ramirez has just got the parking lot frog.'"
It's a sentiment shared by some of Harry Potter's biggest fans. One user wrote: "Not unpopular, just true, quidditch is designed as a mock sport."
Another fumed: "It fit the early series much better, back when it was more of a fairy tale world and hadn't become too self-serious with its world building."
A third shared: "Back when the books were aiming to be more whimsy than realistic, Quidditch was designed as a mockery of sports. Hence, how ridiculous it functions as a game."
Despite the apparent mockery of sports, Quidditch initially proved popular with fans of the series. Other fans were keen to point out that, while catching the Golden Snitch would end the game, it was not necessarily an automatic win.
One user wrote: "You don't win if you get the snitch. It's 150 points. It's to balance the game out if you are getting slaughtered.
"The game ends when it's caught. It's strategy to hold off catching it in some cases."
Another added: "Unpopular opinion: this is how basketball already feels. Two teams just take turns being in the lead and eventually the timer runs out and the team whose turn it was to be in the lead at that moment wins. It's like a two-hour game of eeny-meany-meiny-moe."
A third wrote: "But overall you're correct, it was designed this way for story purposes; any other sport it would be silly to think a 6th grader could play a physical sport with high schoolers and contribute to wins."

A statement released in July on the Wizarding World website advised fans to stay away from Kings Cross. It read: 'Special Hogwarts notice: alas, we must once again discourage fans from attending King's Cross Station on 1st September, as there will be no countdown or train announcement occurring in 2025. Safety first, folks.' A spokesperson confirmed to The Sun: 'It is the same for this year, in that we won't be hosting the event at the station.' There will however be a screening of the fourth Harry Potter film at Cineworld Leicester Square with actors James and Oliver Phelps hosting a Q&A. Last month, it was revealed the Wightwick Hall steam locomotive is on track for worldwide fame as it has been selected to feature as the Hogwarts Express in the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The locomotive, which has been beautifully restored over 41 years by volunteers, will transport the wizard from platform 9 and 3/4 at London's King's Cross station to the school of magic. The Wightwick Hall was built in 1948. It travelled 640,000 miles with the Great Western Railway before being withdrawn in 1964 and sold to a scrapyard in Barry, South Wales. In 1978 it was bought for £9,180 by volunteers from Buckinghamshire Railway Centre in Quainton who restored it. The loco is now on long-term loan to the Bluebell Railway in West Sussex. The Wightwick Hall will spend six months a year filming for the HBO series for the next eight years. It will run at the tourist attraction in between shoots. Filming for the latest adaptation of JK Rowling's novels will begin this month and the show is due to air next year. Dominic McLaughlin, 11, has landed the role of Harry Potter while Arabella Stanton, 11, will play Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout, 11, will star as Ron Weasley. In the films, released between 2001 and 2011, the Olton Hall engine – now at the Warner Bros Studio Tour near Watford – starred as the Hogwarts Express. Filming for the series began in May, with cast and crew seen setting up on the Île de Sein off the coast of Brittany, France.

But as the years go on, they seem to get more and more intricate, and without an instruction manual it can be difficult to discern what exactly your child is playing with. That's the problem a parent on Reddit ran into before uploading a photo to the site's 'What is this thing' thread. FlakyPhilosophy5103 posted the picture in hopes of getting to the bottom of a toy box mystery that had been bothering them for months. Along with a picture of two colorful children's toys, the poster wrote: 'Is anyone able to help me know what these things are supposed to be please? It has been bugging me for months. 'The kit was in Chinese so I am none the wiser.' They described the small plastic items as a 'scraper' and a 'round item' which came in a child's doctor kit. Fortunately, parents flocked to the comment section to help the parent identify exactly which fictitious procedures their child would be performing with the mysterious plastic tools. At first, there were a couple of well-meaning, but totally off-base guesses. One user commented: 'Could the blue thing be one of those reflex hammers?' Another theorized: 'Maybe the blue thing is a strange tongue depressor? Like, with a funky angle to get the large handle out of the line of sight, from before disposables?' A third said: 'The pink thing looks like the eye test where the doc switches out lenses.' One person even though the pink round object and blue plastic toy could be a dental X-ray machine and tooth guard. But the overwhelming consensus took the right answer in a different direction. Comparing the items to play doctor's kits online and toys of their own, as always, Reddit commenters were able to get to the bottom of it. 'I think the blue thing is supposed to be a scalpel,' said one answer. The commenters confirmed that the pink toy was supposed to be a doctor's light 'It's a surgery light and a scalpel, we have the same kit,' said another. People uploaded photos of similar kits which labeled the items as a scalpel and a spotlight, confirming their theories.
