Amanda Holden makes feelings on John Torode's racism allegation clear

Daily Mirror2 days ago
MasterChef host John Torode has revealed he is the subject of a racism allegation following an investigation into his former co-star Gregg Wallace's alleged misconduct
Amanda Holden has publicly shown her support to MasterChef host John Torode after he was accused of using a racist remark on set. The BBC presenter, 59, was dragged into former co-star Gregg Wallace's investigation yesterday.
Wallace has been removed from his job on the hit cooking show after a nearly year-long probe into alleged misconduct claims. Some 50 people made fresh misconduct claims against the TV presenter, according to BBC News, though Wallace denied all allegations.

It has emerged two standalone allegations were made against other people, one of which was the use of racist language made by Torode. Speaking on the claims, Torode said: "Following publication of the Executive Summary of the investigation into Gregg Wallace while working on MasterChef, I am aware of speculation that I am one of the two other individuals against whom an allegation has been upheld.

"For the sake of transparency, I confirm that I am the individual who is alleged to have used racial language on one occasion. The allegation is that I did so sometime in 2018 or 2019, in a social situation, and that the person I was speaking with did not believe that it was intended in a malicious way and that I apologised immediately afterwards."
He added: "I have absolutely no recollection of any of this, and I do not believe that it happened. However, I want to be clear that I've always had the view that any racial language is wholly unacceptable in any environment. I'm shocked and saddened by the allegation as I would never wish to cause anyone any offence."

Torode posted his statement on his Instagram account, where he chose to keep the comments off to avoid replies. However, Britain's Got Talent judge Amanda appeared to show her support for the presenter as she was one of the 5,000 people to like the post. Other famous faces who shared their support were Strictly Come Dancing's Nancy Xu and This Morning's resident cleaning expert Lynsey.
It came just hours after Wallace's statement, in which he said he was "deeply sorry for any distress caused". He added he "never set out to harm or humiliate" in the wake of the report, which said one allegation of "unwelcome physical contact" was upheld.
In all, 45 out of 83 allegations against Wallace were substantiated, the report by MasterChef production company Banijay UK and led by law firm Lewis Silkin found.

The report found that the "majority of the allegations against Wallace (94%) related to behaviour which is said to have occurred between 2005 and 2018", with only one allegation substantiated after 2018.
MasterChef returned to our screens in 2005 - after a four-year break - under the guise of MasterChef Goes Large and has since been branded as MasterChef. Two Christmas specials scheduled to air in the festive period last year were pulled by the BBC amid the investigation.
The BBC said in a statement that it has informed Wallace that the broadcaster has "no plans to work with him in the future" and welcomes the publication of the investigation's findings.

'The investigation details a substantial number of allegations of inappropriate conduct spanning 19 years. This behaviour falls below the values of the BBC and the expectations we have for anyone who works with or for us," the BBC said.
'Although the full extent of these issues were not known at the relevant time, opportunities were missed to address this behaviour – both by the production companies running MasterChef and the BBC. We accept more could and should have been done sooner.
"We want to thank all those who took part in the investigation, including those who first raised concerns directly with the BBC in November last year. We apologise to everyone who has been impacted by Mr Wallace's behaviour."
The BBC added: 'Lewis Silkin's findings include two further allegations which were upheld, relating to other individuals. The BBC takes these findings very seriously and we have asked Banijay UK to take action to address these issues, which is underway. This will be completed as a priority.
'The BBC will not be commenting further at this stage, but we are clear we expect the highest standards of respect at work to be upheld on the production."

The dramatic episodes saw Karen Henthorn reprise her role as Julie Bates after 27 years as Jay Brown contacted her to let her know Nigel was in Walford. Fans will be treated to another double bill on Monday night, with both episodes dropping at 6am on iPlayer. For those who want to wait until the evening, the first episode will be airing on BBC One at 7.30pm, with the second airing straight after at 8pm. ‌ The soap will air in its usual 7.30pm slot on Tuesday, however will be taken off air again next Wednesday for the second semi-final of the Women's Euros. Business will commence as usual on Thursday evening, as the soap will be back in its usual 7.30pm slot. Spoilers for next week tease an explosive week for the soap, as the new owners of the Queen Vic will be revealed. It's the end of an era for the Carters as Linda and her mother Elaine agreed to sell. Next week, the auction will begin as a bidding war ensues between the Slaters, the Beales and a developer. But who will emerge victorious? Elsewhere, it looks like Max Branning may not be too far away from returning to Walford as Linda Carter decides to tell Oscar the fact her daughter Annie is his biological half-sister. Oscar's father Max Branning has no idea Linda's daughter is his child. Oscar decides Max needs to know the truth and is keen to tell him, leaving Linda terrified. Lauren Branning is tasked with trying to reason with her brother - is Max's return sooner than we think?

Two major The Office stars enjoy mini reunion… see what they look like 20 years after debut of iconic sitcom

Two leading stars from the beloved NBC sitcom The Office enjoyed a mini reunion this week - over 20 years after the show first aired in 2003. Rainn Wilson, 59, and Jenna Fischer, 51 - who played Dwight and Pam respectively on the series - sent fans into a frenzy as they posed for a few memorable Instagram snaps on Tuesday which were uploaded to the actor's main account. The duo flashed cheerful smiles for a selfie as they stepped outside to grab lunch and later took another picture while sitting inside a vehicle. Fischer kept it casual wearing a short-sleeved white shirt as well as a button up that was layered on top. The actress's locks were parted to the side and fell down to brush her shoulders in light curls. Jenna opted for minimal accessories and added a dainty gold-chained necklace as well as mini silver hoops. Rainn Wilson, 59, and Jenna Fischer, 51 - who played Dwight and Pam respectively on the series - sent fans into a frenzy as they posed for a few memorable Instagram snaps on Tuesday which were uploaded to the actor's main account In the caption of the latest post, Wilson - who sported a black shirt and gray button up - penned to his followers: 'Had lunch with one of my favorite people on the planet. '@MsJennaFischer. Then we recorded audio in the back for her car for those gosh darn Office Ladies! (in case you were wondering she had breakfast for lunch. I had a salad because I'm too chubby.)' Rainn added, 'This amazing, gorgeous woman I first met at our office audition call back in late 2003! Can you believe it!? Dwight and Pam forever! #Dwam.' Social media users as well as former cast members flocked to the comment section to offer their excitement over the reunion. Fischer added a message of her own about spending time with Wilson and wrote, 'This made my heart so happy!!' Kate Flannery who also starred in the sitcom added red heart emojis while another former co-star Angela Kinsey typed, 'This makes my heart happy! Love you guys!' A fan shared, 'My favorite dynamic duo on screen,' and another penned, 'Are you guys forming an alliance?' One added, 'Possibly my favorite relationship in the whole show,' and another said, 'Jim would be FURIOUS!!! I love you guys,' referencing to John Krasinski's character. Rainn added, 'This amazing, gorgeous woman I first met at our office audition call back in late 2003! Can you believe it!? Dwight and Pam forever! #Dwam'; seen above in The Office 'This made me smile!!! So nice to see you two together again!!!' an Instagram user said, and one wrote, 'Wow 2003 that's insane! What a great show.' The Office began airing on NBC in 2003 and also starred Steve Carell, BJ Novak, Mindy Kaling, Melora Hardin, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Oscar Nunez and Ed Helms. The Emmy-winning show had a total of nine seasons - with the final episode airing in 2013. A spin-off to the show called The Paper is set to premiere on September 4 on Peacock with an initial four episodes and takes place in The Office universe, per NBC. The new cast includes Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key and Oscar Nunez - who notably appeared in the original show. The President of NBCUniversal Entertainment Lisa Katz previously said in a statement, per People, 'It's been more than ten years since the final episode of aired on NBC. 'And the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock.' Katz added, 'This new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.' Fischer - who previously battled breast cancer - has talked about how The Office cast still remains in touch years after the show's conclusion. During an interview with People last year, she explained that they are all in a special group chat. 'We have a text thread. It's called Office Peeps, and we all text on it, send pictures and updates and all the things you have on a text thread,' Jenna revealed. 'We just have our text thread. But then, we all run into each other and get together on the side. But we have our text thread, it's going strong.' Angela Kinsey also gave an update about the group chat while talking to People earlier this month. She said, 'Interestingly enough, I feel like Rainn [Wilson] checks in the most, which is very sweet, and I don't think anyone's annoying, but the most random will be Creed [Bratton], and I think that's very on brand. 'One time, he made a little Christmas song with a Santa hat that flopped around. You never know what you're going to get.' Both Fischer and Kinsey have also reunited for their podcast called Office Ladies - which officially launched back in 2019. And last year in April, Fischer also reunited with Rainn Wilson, Craig Robinson, Creed Bratton, Kate Flannery and Brian Baumgartner for an AT&T campaign. 'It was so much fun and totally seamless. We locked into our chemistry together immediately. It was so thrilling. It was over too fast. I wish it had gone longer,' the actress told People at the time. 'I think [Ed Helm's' character] Andy had a line where he says, "If only you knew you were in the good old days when you were in them." I'm paraphrasing, but it's that idea.' She continued, 'And, listen, we knew we had a great thing when we were filming. But this was that chance to go back and re-experience that magic for just a moment, and that is such a gift to be able to do that.' Earlier this month, former castmate Craig Robinson - who played the character of Darryl Philbin in the hit series - made the shock announcement that he is stepping away from comedy.

Fans freak out over Scott Cam's extraordinary likeness to his granddaughter

The Block's Scott Cam is relishing his new role as a grandfather. Taking to his social media on Tuesday, the 62-year-old TV host posted a picture of himself holding his son Charlie's three-month-old baby Tiggy in his arms. Fans were quick to note the wild resemblance between Scott and his granddaughter, who shares the same chin and bright blue eyes as her famous pop. 'Love Sunday BBQs with the fam,' The Block star said in the caption of his Instagram post, as followers filled the comments section with compliments. 'Chip off the old block (see what I did there Scotty lol),' joked one user, while another follower said simply, 'Mini Scotty'. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'She looks so like you (but in a pretty way),' another follower said of the tiny tot, who sports an impressive head of red hair. 'Yes, she is a spitting image!' gushed another follower. The veteran presenter shared a gallery of photos to social media in May to share his joy at becoming a grandfather. In the Instagram post, Scott confirmed his son Charlie and his partner Amber had welcomed their first child. One precious photo captured Scott happily posing alongside Charlie, 28, while he tenderly cradled his newborn grandchild. Another showed a beaming Scott looking every inch the doting grandad as he held the bundle of joy while visiting the maternity ward and a third captured him lovingly kissing the newborn's forehead. The Sydney-born presenter revealed in the caption the birth happened in April and he is now going public: 'As of five weeks ago, I became a grandfather to beautiful Tiggy. 'I'm so proud of Charlie and Amber. She is absolutely gorgeous.' Many of Scott's celebrity friends took to the comment section to offer their words of support. 'The best grandad,' gushed The Block veterans Liberty and Eliza. 'Well done Scotty, what a gift, you'll be the BEST Grandpa of them all,' added Catriona Rowntree and Barry Du Bois chipped in with: 'So happy for you and the family mate. Number One Grandpa.' Scott and his wife of thirty years, Ann, share twins Bill and Sarah, 25, and Charlie.) It comes as fans are eagerly waiting for the new season of The Block to drop. Leaked photos of one of the completed homes in the sleepy Victorian hamlet of Daylesford reveal the upcoming 2025 installment has a very similar aesthetic to a previous season of the show. While Nine is remaining tight-lipped on the official name, whispers around the network suggest the new series could easily be branded as a sequel to the 2022 'Tree Change' season, which was set in Gisborne in the Macedon Ranges - just a short drive from this year's location. Daylesford was set to be the site of The Block's 2024 season, however production was eventually moved to Phillip Island following a planning dispute. The network was reportedly forced to cancel $500,000 worth of accommodation it had booked for the show's cast and crew. 'We've had so many successful series in so many different locations, but we don't go where we are not welcome,' a production insider told the Herald Sun at the time. In December, the application was finally approved by the Victorian Planning Minister to build five dwellings on a 2,000sqm block of land owned by Hygge Property. Daylesford is located 114km from Melbourne and its unique combination of natural beauty, historic charm and vibrant local culture provides a stunning backdrop ideal for the show.
