Gurugram unites for Yoga Day with mass events and anti-drug campaign
The district-level event, spearheaded by the Gurugram administration and the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy) department, was headlined at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 38. Haryana industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh inaugurated the event, calling yoga a 'global movement inspired by India' and 'a lifestyle that aligns us with the rhythm of the universe'.
Singh used the platform to push the state's anti-drug campaign, 'Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt Haryana', urging young people to embrace yoga as a path to mindfulness. 'This campaign will lead our young generation towards mindfulness and away from destructive habits,' he said. Singh also appealed to the public to take responsibility for environmental sustainability: 'Say no to polythene, plant trees, and make green living a part of your daily life.' He asked each citizen to plant at least one sapling annually.
The event opened with a group rendition of the Haryana state anthem 'Jai Jai Haryana' and included a live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address and a message from Chief Minister Nayab Saini, delivered from Kurukshetra. Participants were guided through asanas, pranayama, and breathing techniques by trained instructors.
Beyond the stadium, yoga sessions were held across Gurugram, including at malls, residential complexes, construction sites, and parks. Ambience Mall, in collaboration with Fitness First, hosted themed sessions focused on inner peace and energy balance. Celebrations extended far beyond the main venue. In a key highlight, Bollywood actor Malaika Arora took part in a yoga session at DLF Cyber Hub, where she emphasised the practice's continuing role in her personal life. 'Yoga grounds me in every phase—whether I'm on screen or off it,' Arora said, encouraging participants to embrace it not just as fitness, but as a way of living.
Society-level drives were held at Orris Greenopolis, Central Park Flower Valley, Vipul Greens, and Vatika India Next, led by certified trainers. The Elan Group's 'Soulset' event introduced a modern twist, featuring Bollywood actor Sonal Chauhan as the brand ambassador. 'Soulset is not just an event—it's about creating mindful, meaningful living,' said Vidhi Attri, Head of Marketing at Elan Group.
In another wellness initiative, Whiteland Corporation hosted a Sound Healing workshop, conducted by wellness expert Sanjay Warke and curated by Vishuddhii, offering calming vibrations aimed at stress relief and emotional balance.
Adding a philosophical lens, Acharya Pankhuri Srivastava highlighted the deeper roots of yoga, citing Patanjali's Yoga Sutra: 'Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind.' She added, 'When we cultivate inner stillness, we contribute to building a more balanced and harmonious society.'

Delhi to get over 100 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs by August: Health Minister
New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Singh on Monday said more than 30 new Ayushman Arogya Mandirs will be inaugurated across the national capital by the end of this month, and 75 more by August. A study is underway to identify and establish these centres at over 950 locations in the city, Singh said during a meeting at the Delhi Secretariat. The minister ordered identification of vacant spaces in community centres, banquet halls, market shops, polyclinics, and other unused government facilities for the expansion. A total of 429 sites under the MCD have already been identified, with 98 getting the no-objection certificates. "The government is committed to setting up 1,139 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to ensure affordable and accessible healthcare for every citizen of Delhi," the minister said, adding that rural clusters and under-served areas would be included in the roll-out. The mandirs, or clinics, are a central government initiative, envisaged to deliver non-communicable diseases, palliative and rehabilitative care, oral, eye and ENT, and mental health care.

How Ignored India Star Sarfaraz Khan Lost 17 Kg In Just Over 2 Months: "Green Coffee, Broccoli, No Rice, No..."
Sarfaraz Khan on Monday stunned the cricket world by sharing his latest image where the talented batter looked a lot leaner than his earlier self. Several reports claimed that he had lost 17 kg in little over two months, and the 27-year-old himself shared a photo which said he lost the reported weight. Khan, who has played six Tests scoring 371 runs, was not picked for the India squad that is currently playing in England. He, however, featured in the India A Tour of England that preceded the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy and scored a ton too. Though Sarfaraz broke into the Indian team last year, making his Test debut against England in February, he hasn't quite managed to cement his place in the team yet. While runs have been coming from Sarfaraz's bat in domestic cricket, the right-handed batter has further proven his resolve by working hard on his fitness too. So, how did Sarfaraz Khan lose 17kgs? In May, when he was named for the India A Tour, his father Naushad gave a detailed account of his weight loss journey. "We have controlled our diet a lot. We have stopped eating roti, rice, etc. We haven't eaten roti or rice at home for 1 to 1.5 months. We eat broccoli, carrot, cucumber, salad, and green vegetable salad. Along with that, we eat grilled fish, grilled chicken, boiled chicken, boiled egg, etc. We are also having green tea and green coffee," Naushad told HT. "We eat avocados also. There are sprouts also. But the main thing is that we have stopped eating roti and rice. We have stopped eating sugar. We have stopped eating maida (flour) and bakery items." Naushad added that Sarfaraz had given up on Biryani too. "He has almost lost 10 kgs within 1.5 months. He is working on reducing his weight even further. I have reduced 12 kgs myself because I had a knee issue. So, I also benefited from it. The doctor told me that I have to do a knee replacement. So, I told him that I had to delay it. He told me that I have to reduce my weight for that," Naushad said. Sarfaraz's snub for the India Tour of England was criticised by many former cricketers.

KGMU docs treat teen boy with rare tummy disorder
Lucknow: A 14-year-old boy from a rural area in eastern UP, suffering from a rare and painful stomach disorder, was successfully treated at KGMU. The boy was diagnosed with superior mesenteric artery (SMA) syndrome, also known as Wilkie's syndrome. In this condition, part of the small intestine, called the duodenum, gets squeezed between two major blood vessels — the aorta and the superior mesenteric artery. This causes severe stomach pain, weight loss, and a fear of eating. For over six months, the boy was in pain every time he ate, so he almost stopped eating. By the time he reached KGMU, he was extremely weak. His body mass index (BMI) dropped to 12.5, far below the normal range of 18.5-25 for boys his age, putting him at serious risk of malnutrition. Faculty at the surgery department, Prof Saumya Singh, who led the treatment, said that SMA syndrome is very rare — only 0.01-0.03% of people are affected — and is often hard to identify because its symptoms are similar to common stomach issues. In this case, a CT scan confirmed the diagnosis by showing the narrowing between the two arteries. Dr Singh said, "Usually, women in their 40s get SMA syndrome. But due to its low occurrence, it is often misdiagnosed, and people keep popping painkillers just for relief. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Many Are Watching Tariffs - Few Are Watching What Nvidia Just Launched Seeking Alpha Read More Undo We see this condition rarely — perhaps one case in three years." Dr Saumya said the boy underwent a surgery called 'Strong's Procedure' on June 10. Within a few days, the boy started eating again and began to recover quickly. The patient was discharged. The operation was supported by head of paediatric surgery, Prof JD Rawat, Prof JK Kushwaha and junior doctors Dr Swapnil Singh and Dr Pankaj Kumar. The anaesthesia team, led by Prof MP Khan and Dr Ayushi, ensured the child's safety during the risky procedure. KGMU vice chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand praised the team.
