Terror aboard Air India jet from San Francisco after COCKROACHES were spotted scuttling in the cabin

Air India passengers were left panicked and disgusted after spotting cockroaches on their flight from San Francisco to Mumbai. Fliers aboard flight AI180 faced the unsettling inconvenience when two passengers noticed the oval-shaped insects in the cabin after the flight took off on Sunday. Staffers moved the concerned travelers to different seats when they made the skin-crawling discovery, according to a statement from the airline. The cockroaches were first seen at the start of the lengthy flight - meaning passengers were likely on edge for most of the 16-hour trip. Air India said when the flight made its scheduled refueling stop in Kolkata, the crew 'promptly conducted a deep cleaning process to address the issue.' The Kolkata stop was about 14 hours and 30 minutes into the trip, according to FlightAware. After the cleaning session, the flight resumed its journey to Mumbai without further delays. The airline has launched an internal investigation to determine how the insects boarded the aircraft and how to prevent similar occurrences in the future. The cockroaches were seen toward the start of the lengthy flight - meaning passengers were likely on edge for most of the 16-hour trip (stock image) Air India acknowledged the disruption and explained that insects can occasionally enter planes during ground operations despite routine fumigation protocols. 'On flight AI180 from San Francisco to Mumbai via Kolkata, two passengers were unfortunately bothered by the presence of a few small cockroaches on board,' a spokesperson admitted on X. 'We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to the passengers.' This online apology has sparked an uproar, with social media users around the globe calling out the airline for the revolting ordeal. 'Air India services quality have deteriorated to the lowest possible sub par! From impeccable to downright shoddy and disgusting,' someone wrote. 'Best is to avoid flying @airindia till they clean up their act,' another man wrote. This is not the first time Air India fliers have complained about the unwanted guests joining them on their flights. This online apology has sparked an uproar, with social media users around the globe calling out the airline for the revolting ordeal Several videos have been shared online, allegedly showing cockroaches crawling on airplane seats. At times, they have even been spotted in people's meals. These insect sightings did not all emerge recently either - with a food journalist calling out the airline nearly 10 years ago after finding a dead bug in his flight dinner. Vegetarian journalist Rahul Raghuvanshi, based in Boston, shared a photo of his grim discovery on Twitter in 2016. 'Air India now serves cockroach for vegetarian meals on AI127 #sicktomystomach #traumatized #cockroachinfood,' he wrote on X, then Twitter. He was sitting in economy - already halfway through his meal - when he found it, and says he was on a flight to Chicago from the Indian city of Hyderabad. At the time, Air India addressed the unwelcome ingredient, issuing a similar statement to the one they shared on Monday. 'Air India took serious note of the incident and issued notice to the caterer concerned immediately. Further investigation is going on,' a spokesperson said. When the travelers made the skin-crawling discovery, flight staffers moved them to different seats in the same class, according to a statement from the airline (file photo) Sunday's debacle came shortly after an operational issue on another Air India aircraft. A Delhi–bound flight was canceled due to excessively high cabin temperatures prior to takeoff. Flight AI500 was called off from leaving Bhubaneswar due to a technical issue that caused the Airbus A321 aircraft's cabin to reach excruciating temperatures, according to an airline statement.

Storm Floris live updates: Trains cancelled and 22,000 homes without power after 90mph winds hit UK

EasyJet 900-mile 'flight to nowhere' as pilots abandon landing at Inverness Our travel correspondent Simon Calder has reported that a pilot was forced to abandon a landing in Scotland. An easyJet flight from Luton to Inverness flew 900 miles on an 'flight to nowhere'. Flight 632 took off from the Bedfordshire airport just before 12 noon and flew normally at 36,000 feet to the Scottish airport. But at just 2,000 feet above the ground, the pilots of the Airbus A319 decided to abandon the landing, and flew back to Luton. After a total of 2 hours and 25 minutes in the air, the plane touched down back at its starting place. Passengers were told: 'Strong winds in Inverness are preventing aircraft from arriving and departing. The safety of you and our crew is our highest priority and we thank you for your understanding.' Under air passengers' rights rules, travellers must be flown to their destination as soon as possible on any airline. The aviation data analyst, Cirium, has confirmed research by The Independent that Belfast City and Aberdeen are the airports worst affected by Storm Floris. At Belfast City, 10 departures and 11 arrivals have been grounded. At Aberdeen, 12 departures have been cancelled – but only six arrivals are axed. Nicole Wootton-Cane4 August 2025 15:55

The AFL grand final is seven weeks away - but airlines are already being accused of RIPPING OFF fans of one famous club

Footy fans have fumed at several airlines after multiple carriers have upped their prices for flights into Melbourne ahead of this year's Grand Final on Saturday, September 27. Specifically, Adelaide Crows fans, hoping their side might reach their first Grand Final at the MCG since 2017, could be forced to pay hefty air fares if they're looking to travel to Melbourne on the eve of the showpiece event. Matthew Nicks' side are flying high as we head into the final three regular-season matches, with the Crows having won six matches on the bounce, which culminated this weekend in their massive 101-87 victory against Hawthorn. While they sit joint top of the league, tied on 60 points with the Crows, the club's fans are preparing for the possible eventuality that they could be in for a trip to Melbourne for Grand Final day. While there is a long way to go for the Crows, who haven't won a premiership since 1998, and also haven't qualified for finals in eight years, some fans have been left aggrieved at the shocking prices some airlines are charging to get from the City of Churches to Melbourne around Grand Final weekend. On Friday, September 26, the day before the big match, Virgin Australia is offering economy tickets to fly from Adelaide to Melbourne Tullamarine, with the lowest-priced seats coming in at $250. Economy fares on two flights at 8:40am and 11:50am are both on sale for $791 - the top priced figures. Qantas has also upped its fees on Grand Final eve, with economy tickets for flights leaving Adelaide at 10:05am and 12:15pm set to cost Crows fans $785. The airline is also offering fares on Thursday, September 25. The top-priced economy fare for that day is set to also set fans back $437. Jetstar has priced its top fares on Grand Final eve at $350. One Crows fan told Seven News: 'It just ruins what should be one of the best days of the season.' 'Make the people happy, let them get over there. It's about going over for the Grand Final or a final and having a ball,' another fan said. Crows fan and mum of two, Kim Skypyrek, said the fees were 'insane'. 'Fair enough if it's one person and they've saved some money but it's really hard for people to be able to afford that,' she told Northern Territory News. Qantas has also upped its fees on Grand Final eve, with economy tickets for flights leaving Adelaide at 10:05am and 12:15pm set to cost Crows fans $785 'If it came down to it we'd just send my husband (Michael) and our son (Ambrose) so that they could go and enjoy it.' But there are other ways fans can get to the footy and dodge the high air fares. Fans can take the train, but that entails an 11-hour journey and is likely to cost around $150. Meanwhile, other fans are arranging their own transport and will embark on an eight-hour trip via bus to Melbourne, should the Crows reach the final. 'A group of twelve of us can drive over, hire a bus and rent out a house cheaper than [the cost of] flights for four,' Skypyrek added. 'Regardless of who's in it, whether we get to go into the grand final or not, we just want to be in Melbourne for the weekend and experience it.'
