Progressive Regulation and Zero Tax Policy Drive UAE's $34 Billion Crypto Boom - Middle East Business News and Information
According to a new report by a leading provider of blockchain and Bitcoin solutions, Mining Grid – the UAE received $34 billion (AED124B) in crypto inflows between July 2023 and June 2024, recording a 42% YoY growth rate. This surge places the UAE as a key player in the global crypto ecosystem, with over 500,000 daily crypto traders now active in the country. The Middle East attracted $338.7 billion in crypto inflows during the same period, marking an 11.73% YoY increase and securing its position as the 7th largest crypto market globally. Over 93% of that volume came from institutional-sized transfers, highlighting a maturing market driven by long-term strategies rather than speculation.
Youth adoption has become a defining characteristic of the UAE's crypto landscape. With over 74% of young adults aged 25-34 showing active interest in cryptocurrency, and 21% planning to trade crypto within the next 12 months, the country leads regional participation in youth-driven digital finance. Social platforms including TikTok, WhatsApp, and YouTube have become primary discovery channels for this demographic, fostering a socially connected generation pursuing financial independence through digital assets.
Growth brings challenges, with nearly half of young crypto users concerned about misinformation – opening the door for trusted platforms to lead in education and responsible adoption.
Solaiman AlRifai, Founder & Board member, Mining Grid said, 'The UAE's clear regulations and zero capital gains tax have created the perfect environment for crypto growth. With an engaged and forward-looking population, it's no surprise the country is now seen as the crypto capital of the Arab world.'
Regional neighbours are following suit with their own approaches. Saudi Arabia recorded remarkable 153% growth and leads GCC countries in youth crypto adoption rates. Oman has taken a sustainability-focused path, investing over $1.1 billion in green mining infrastructure to position itself as a hub for environmentally conscious crypto mining operations.
Rami Alsridi, Founder and CEO, Mining Grid said, 'The UAE has created the ideal environment where curiosity meets clarity. We're seeing a new generation that doesn't just want to invest in crypto but wants to understand it, build with it, and lead its next chapter. We're also witnessing a surge in Bitcoin mining, driven by demand for decentralization, transparency, and energy-conscious innovation.'
Bitcoin maintains market dominance while Ethereum's ecosystem resilience keeps digital assets in the spotlight. Stablecoins have become a cornerstone of regional value transfer, now comprising 66% of all on-chain transactions. The tokenization of real-world assets, including real estate and bonds, is driving new waves of institutional interest across the region.
Mining Grid, which serves over 60,000 users globally with a physical presence in the UAE, has played a pivotal role in accelerating regional crypto adoption through accessible and energy-efficient mining solutions. The company's approach addresses traditional concerns about Bitcoin mining's energy demands by reimagining it as an infrastructure opportunity aligned with regional sustainability goals.
Looking toward 2026, analysts from Mining Grid project that youth-led crypto accounts will become the largest new onboarding segment in the region by Q4 2025 and Gulf countries are expected to continue exploring sustainable crypto mining practices. The report anticipates continued growth in mobile-first, gamified crypto platforms, increased institutional participation in tokenised assets, and accelerated adoption of clean-energy-backed mining models across the Middle East.

Egypt, Sierra Leone discuss expanding cooperation in transport, infrastructure
Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir, met with Alhaji Fanday Turay, Sierra Leone's Minister of Transport and Aviation, to explore avenues for deepening bilateral cooperation in various transport and infrastructure sectors. The meeting, held in Cairo, was attended by Sierra Leone's Ambassador to Egypt, Sadiq Silla, along with senior officials from both countries' transport ministries. At the outset, Al-Wazir highlighted the longstanding and friendly ties between Egypt and Sierra Leone, reaffirming Egypt's commitment to strengthening cooperation across all modes of transport. He emphasised the importance Egypt places on African partnerships, noting that supporting development across the continent remains a top priority for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. For his part, Minister Turay praised Egypt's extensive achievements in infrastructure and transport, describing the country's large-scale development projects as a model aligned with its growing regional and international influence. He expressed Sierra Leone's strong interest in leveraging Egypt's experience to advance its own transport and infrastructure agenda. Al-Wazir reaffirmed that Egyptian companies — many of which have successfully delivered major projects both domestically and across the Arab and African regions — are fully prepared to implement infrastructure initiatives in Sierra Leone to the highest international standards. He outlined several potential areas of cooperation, including the development and modernisation of seaports to enhance Sierra Leone's import-export capacity, and the manufacturing of buses in Egypt for use in Sierra Leone's urban and intercity transport networks. He also proposed assigning an Egyptian firm to manage Sierra Leone's land transport system and collaborating in the fields of railways, river transport, and the construction of dry ports. Both sides agreed to establish a joint working group comprising technical experts from each country to coordinate future efforts and facilitate tangible progress across the maritime, land, river, rail, and dry port sectors. The meeting marks a step forward in Egypt's broader strategy to enhance economic integration and infrastructure connectivity with African partners.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrives in Egypt for high-level talks
Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in Cairo on Wednesday for his first official visit to Egypt, where he was greeted by his counterpart Mostafa Madbouly at the start of a trip aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries. Li, who is heading a high-level delegation, was given an official reception ceremony at Cairo International Airport, which included the playing of both nations' national anthems and an inspection of the guard of honour, a statement from Madbouly's office said. The two premiers are scheduled to co-chair an expanded session of talks and witness the signing of several agreements aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields. Upon his arrival, Li emphasized the deep historical and cultural ties between the two nations, noting that Egypt was the first Arab and African country to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China nearly 70 years ago. 'The ancient Silk Road linked our two peoples across thousands of miles, and our friendship has stood the test of time,' Li said in a statement. 'Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, our cooperation continues to deepen, setting a model for South-South cooperation.' Li added that China views Egypt as a key partner in the Global South and is eager to enhance collaboration across political, economic, and multilateral platforms. During the visit, the two sides are expected to discuss expanding cooperation in infrastructure, energy, trade, and technology, as well as joint efforts to promote regional stability and sustainable development. He concluded by affirming China's commitment to contributing positively to Egypt's development and to building a stronger 'China-Egypt community with a shared future.' In June, Egypt and China agreed to strengthen economic cooperation in key sectors such as electric vehicles, electronics, and artificial intelligence, and will coordinate to organise an investment promotion forum in Egypt, the Egyptian Investment Ministry said. The agreement came during a meeting in Beijing between Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El-Khatib and Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao. The two sides agreed to enhance cooperation in several fields, including electric cars, feeder industries, electronics, water desalination, solar panels, and artificial intelligence. They also agreed to collaborate on strengthening supply chains. Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao praised the bilateral trade volume, which has reached $17bn, affirming that China remains Egypt's largest trading partner. He highlighted successful investment cooperation in the TEDA-Suez zone, which has attracted significant Chinese investment, alongside major projects implemented by Chinese firms, including the Iconic Tower and Central Business District in the New Administrative Capital, the electric train, and renewable energy projects.

Stock Exchange Closes on Mixed Note; EGX30 Edges Higher amid Foreign Buying
Taarek Refaat Egypt's stock market (EGX) ended Wednesday's session on a mixed note, with the benchmark index EGX30 standing out as the only gainer, buoyed by foreign and Arab investor appetite. In contrast, broader indices saw mild declines under pressure from local selling activity. The EGX30 index rose 0.25% to close at 33,119 points, continuing its upward trajectory driven by strategic buying in blue-chip stocks. Meanwhile, the EGX70, which tracks small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) slipped 0.38% to 10,085 points. The broader EGX100 index posted a marginal decline of 0.05%, ending the session at 13,652 points. Investor Activity Local investors adopted a risk-off approach, emerging as net sellers with total outflows amounting to EGP 55.8 million. On the other hand, Arab and foreign investors were net buyers, injecting EGP 33.09 million and EGP 22.7 million, respectively, into the market. Trading Overview Total trading value: EGP 4.1 billion Number of executed transactions: 91,739 Listed companies traded: 212 Market cap: EGP 2.3 trillion The session saw 64 stocks gain, 115 decline, and 34 remain unchanged, reflecting a cautious trading environment amid economic crosswinds and anticipation of upcoming macroeconomic data. Market Sentiment Analysts note that the resilience of EGX30, despite broader weakness, highlights investor confidence in heavyweight stocks, particularly those benefiting from currency hedging and export-driven earnings. The foreign buying streak also signals renewed interest in Egyptian equities as regional investors seek diversification and yield opportunities. The Stock Exchange has resumed full trading operations after a temporary suspension triggered by a major fire at the Ramses Central Telecommunications Center, one of Cairo's most critical infrastructure hubs. The blaze, which broke out early Tuesday, caused widespread disruption to internet and landline communications, affecting financial institutions, brokerage firms, and retail investors nationwide. The incident highlighted the vulnerabilities of Egypt's digital infrastructure and its central role in capital market operations. read more CBE: Deposits in Local Currency Hit EGP 5.25 Trillion Morocco Plans to Spend $1 Billion to Mitigate Drought Effect Gov't Approves Final Version of State Ownership Policy Document Egypt's Economy Expected to Grow 5% by the end of 2022/23- Minister Qatar Agrees to Supply Germany with LNG for 15 Years Business Oil Prices Descend amid Anticipation of Additional US Strategic Petroleum Reserves Business Suez Canal Records $704 Million, Historically Highest Monthly Revenue Business Egypt's Stock Exchange Earns EGP 4.9 Billion on Tuesday Business Wheat delivery season commences on April 15 News Israeli-Linked Hadassah Clinic in Moscow Treats Wounded Iranian IRGC Fighters News China Launches Largest Ever Aircraft Carrier Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Videos & Features Tragedy Overshadows MC Alger Championship Celebration: One Fan Dead, 11 Injured After Stadium Fall Lifestyle Get to Know 2025 Eid Al Adha Prayer Times in Egypt Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War News "Tensions Escalate: Iran Probes Allegations of Indian Tech Collaboration with Israeli Intelligence" News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks Videos & Features Video: Trending Lifestyle TikToker Valeria Márquez Shot Dead during Live Stream Technology 50-Year Soviet Spacecraft 'Kosmos 482' Crashes into Indian Ocean
