Special programmes include a Women's Day for female motorists and an automotive education and career day to inspire the next generation of automotive professionals.
National Showcases
MAS 2025 serves as a national stage for Malaysia's homegrown carmakers to showcase their transition to electric mobility.
During the press day on Thursday, Perodua - the country's largest car company by sales and market share - showed the 'almost' production-ready version of its first battery electric vehicle (BEV).
Perodua teased the EV prototype in a half-cut form. The updated display is the final episode to the carmaker's EV journey, highlighting the interior as well as inner workings of the prototype.
Visitors can have a brief experience of a simulated drive of this prototype at MAS 2025.
"Our display highlights our Malaysia's capabilities in adopting assimilate EV technologies as our own," said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
Perodua also showcased two other displays: the X06E and an initiative with Emerald Horizon.
The X06E is a collaboration between Perodua and Politeknik Muadzam Shah to develop its own HEV/BEV working prototype.
The parctnership with Emerald Horizon, an Austrian-based company, is to develop an alternative energy source with the use of thorium, which is a rare earth element.
Proton previewed its second EV model, the e.MAS.
It is a five-door hatchback based on Geely Geome Xingyuan platform, and is targetted for launch later this year.
Proton's booth also features the brand's best-selling models, such as the popular X50, X70, X90 MHEV and the top-selling C-segment sedan, the S70.
Strong Chinese Contingent
Chery and its sub-brands such as Omoda and Jaecoo are taking up acres of space at MAEPS to display their current and new offerings.
Chery pulled the wraps off its newest compact SUV, the Tiggo Cross.

Bookings for the B-segment Tiggo Cross are now underway with guaranteed delivery by August for the first 500 customers.
The Chery stand also saw the preview of Tiggo 7 CSH as part of the launch of the Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) brand.

Malaysia becomes the first Asean market to introduce iCAUR, a brand borne from a strong collaboration between Chery and SmartMi Tech following its global launch at Auto Shanghai 2025 last month.
Positioning itself as a dedicated off-road new energy vehicle brand, iCAUR previewed three fully electric SUVs - the 03, 03T and V23 - ahead of their official launches.
The iCAUR 03 is leading the charge as the first model slated to go on sale in the third quarter of this year.

The brand's notable milestones include growing a respectable demand of over 12,000 registrations for its premium off-road internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid SUVs.
It has also established a strategic network of 45 authorised dealerships nationwide to support its growing customer base.
On the international stage, the Omoda/Jaecoo brand has built a presence in 42 countries and regions, established over 1,300 global showrooms and garnered a remarkable 500,000 global users.
The autoshow also saw the local debut of Zeekr 7X, a premium D-segment SUV built on Geely's cutting-edge 800V SEA platform.
Poised to challenge premium rivals like the Porsche Macan EV and BMW iX2, the Zeekr 7X combines performance, luxury and tech innovation.
At Jetour booth, the company officially launched Jetour VT9, joining the growing list of three-row SUVs aimed at large families and urban adventurers.
Positioned above the five-seater Jetour Dashing, the VT9 is a D-segment, seven-seater SUV that will take on established players like Proton X90 and Chery Tiggo 8 Pro.

Mahathir Turns 100: Still Very Much Tun-ed In
Subscribe to our FREE As two-time former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad prepares to blow out the candles on his 100th birthday, most of us are left wondering: how is this man still going like he's half his own age? While many people slow down in their golden years, Tun M has thrown the idea of 'retirement' out the window. Let's have a look at how the elder statesman has continued to impress people, from his younger days to his (very) senior years. He started a blog… in his 80s Most 80-somethings are still learning how to forward WhatsApp messages, but not Tun M. At the age of 82, he launched a personal blog called ' Still driving himself in his 90s You might expect someone like Tun M to be chauffeured around, especially while he's in his 90s. But no, he has long insisted on driving himself even while in office – and long after. He has a keen interest in cars, as evident in various videos found on on the internet. For example, he was spotted driving a pink Cadillac just last year: Or, what about the time he drove a Proton X70 on the Sepang International Circuit, reaching up to 150kmh! He opened the first Malay-owned private clinic in Kedah Before 'Dr. M' became Prime Minister he was a medical doctor with his very own clinic. Tun M opened Klinik Maha in Alor Setar, Kedah, long before stepping into politics. While he no longer practices medicine, the clinic still stands. And yes, he has delivered babies, treated illnesses, and likely written as many prescriptions as political speeches (that's just a guess, so don't quote us on it). Fun fact: Klinik Maha, established in 1957 (the same year Malaysia gained Independence), was the first Malay-owned private clinic in Kedah. Maha Klinik in 2020. Image: Google Malaysia's (arguably) most meme-able man For a man who has embraced social media, even TikTok, it's no surprise that Tun M has become one of Malaysia's most meme-ified figures. There are memes of him jogging past politicians, memes of him 'resetting Malaysia like a router,' and memes asking how he's still standing while others half his age are tired. And through it all, Tun Mahathir has taken the memes with quiet grace – likely with a little chuckle and a blog post. Image: myy6179_splrkn via 9GAG The master of comebacks And we don't mean that he's particularly skilled at returning jokes or insults. What we mean to say is at 92 years old, Tun M made history again – returning as the oldest head of government in the world. No other leader has ever made a comeback like that. While we promised no politics, this one's too epic to ignore – it's really unbelievably wild that he managed to do this. Tun M circa 1981 vs 2025. Image: (left), Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad Facebook (right) He launched Malaysia's first car brand In 1983, Tun M unveiled Proton, Malaysia's first national car. It wasn't just a car – it was a symbol of national pride and industrial progress. Proton lives on today, with Tun often spotted driving newer models himself. Image: Carsome Married his medical school sweetheart, and they're still together Tun Mahathir met Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali in medical school. More than 60 years later, they're still side by side – Malaysia's most enduring power couple. She's been his partner through everything: medicine, politics, parenthood, and public life. Image: Perdana Leadership Foundation Facebook He outlived seven kings Yes, really. Tun M has outlived seven Yang di-Pertuan Agong since he first entered Parliament in 1964. His longevity is not just personal, it's practically historical. What's his secret? It may just be the Berocca he takes daily, but we can't be too sure.
