Ajit Pawar visits Hinjewadi to inspect civic issues, tells officials to act tough against those who stop land acquisition
Pawar reached Hinjewadi by around 6.30 am and was accompanied by scores of officials from Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), police and district authorities.
After visiting a few spots, Pawar directed the officials to act tough against those who stop land acquisition for widening roads. 'Don't listen to anyone. Straightaway, file a case. If anyone is obstructing government work, take action against them,' Pawar said.
Pawar said, 'If citizens lose their own land, the government will provide them with transferable development rights (TDR). We will ensure that they do not suffer loss.'
Ajit Pawar told the officials not to keep the road narrow. 'Widen them, make them four lane…The traffic flow should not be affected,' he said.
He also pulled up Metro officials over the construction of a ramp, which was affecting the traffic flow. He also expressed his resentment over the construction of buildings on water streams.
The Hinjewadi IT hub has seen public anger over waterlogging and daily traffic jams on the roads. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Thursday held a meeting of top officials and stakeholders, and announced the setting up of a 'single-point authority' headed by the divisional commissioner to look into the issue. PMRDA to take initiative for land acquisition, convert Laxmi Chowk bridge into a six-lane structure, MIDC to complete the road widening project, and Metro administration to ensure adequate parking provisions were some of Fadnavis's directives.
At the meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan, Ajit Pawar, BJP MLAs Mahesh Landge, Shankar Jagtap, and Shankar Mandekar, PCMC and PMC commissioners, district collector, PMRDA commissioners, MIDC officials, representatives from the IT Forum and the Society Federation were present.

50,000 suggestions, objections pour in for PCMC's draft DP
Even as the process of receiving suggestions and objections to the draft Development Plan of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation ended on Monday, it has emerged that there is 'hope' for aggrieved citizens as the civic administration reserves the right to accept or reject their views. By July 14, around 50,000 suggestions and objections were collectively received by the Town Planning Department and the Development Plan Unit of the state government. 'We have received 49,570 suggestions and objections directly from citizens. We feel there are 400-500 suggestions and objections which have come online. So the figure could go up well beyond 50,000,' said a civic official. 'Most of the 50,000 submissions include objections by the citizens, activists and politicians to the reservations made by the DP Unit of the state government,' he added. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh said, 'Now that the suggestions and objections have been received, the state government will appoint a planning committee through the director of town planning. The objections and suggestions will be placed before the Planning Committee….The committee will take the final decision and intimate it to the citizens. The decisions are then placed before the general body of the civic administration. The general body then takes decision on the objections and changes suggested by the planning committee…' The municipal commissioner said the general body has the right to accept or reject the changes or decisions taken by the planning committee. 'The general body has the final powers…After the general body takes the decision, it will go for approval before the state government,' the PCMC chief said. Civic officials said currently, the general body is headed by the municipal commissioner. When asked about this, the PCMC chief said, 'GB will take the final decision…,' while refusing to comment further. Officials said if the hearing is completed by the planning committee before the ensuing civic elections or before the Model Code of Conduct for civic polls comes into effect, the PCMC will get the opportunity to take a call on the planning committee decisions. 'If the process is not completed before the civic elections, then the new general body, which will have elected corporators, will take the final call,' officials said. For last two months, citizens in Pimpri-Chinchwad have been protesting against the draft DP as it threatens to bring down their homes constructed years ago. The reservations in the draft DP have drawn severe criticism from political leaders, activists and citizens. The reservations made by the DP Unit drew flak even from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who said under no circumstances will a slaughterhouse come up near the temple town of Alandi. A reservation for this facility has been made in the PCMC's draft development plan. Several other reservations like the plan for a bus depot and other facilities near Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar statue in Pimpri also drew criticism. Over 5,000 residents in Wakad, Thergaon and nearby areas have also protested the plan for a ring road which was to pass through their society premises. The 'wrong marking' of the floodline near the rivers also was debunked by activists. Seema Sawale, former chairperson of the PCMC's standing committee, who first raised the objections regarding the DP reservations for a slaughterhouse near Alandi, told The Indian Express, 'The draft DP is in favour of the rich and is against the poor and the middle-class. We hope the CM will scrap it and take action against those who made objectionable reservations.' The PCMC has been contending that it's role was limited to making suggestions and conveying the needs of the city to the DP unit. 'The municipal commissioner or the civic administration is not involved where individual reservations are concerned. That is the prerogative of the DP Unit. The municipal commissioner's responsbility is to ensure the needs of the city are properly reflected in the development plan and are conveyed to the DP Unit,' said a civic official. After the slaughterhouse reservation came to light, the PCMC had to clarify that it had suggested to the DP unit to make reservation for a slaughterhouse but not near Alandi. 'The decision for reserving the plot of land for slaughterhouse near Alandi was taken by the DP Unit itself apparently after their own surveys,' said a PCMC official. When asked whether the DP Unit had interacted with them before making reservations in the draft DP, Prasad Gaikwad, Deputy Director of Town Planning, said, 'We were not consulted neither informed about it. The DP Unit took the decisions after their own surveys…' On Tuesday, despite repeated calls, chief of the DP Unit Anupama Kulkarni did not respond. Earlier, she had said the reservations in the draft DP were not final. 'There is a long process involved in preparing the final DP,' she had said.

Kerala NCP defies national leadership's call to resign
Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which includes State Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran and party legislator Thomas K. Thomas, has dismissed calls by party national working president Praful Patel to either resign as legislators or align with the Ajit Pawar-led faction. The Kerala NCP continues to remain an ally of the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF). The internal rift began after Ajit Pawar broke away from the party headed by his uncle and party founder, Sharad Pawar. The Election Commission recently dealt a blow to Sharad Pawar by recognising Ajit Pawar's faction as the official NCP, granting it the party name and symbol. Following this, the Sharad Pawar faction has been renamed as NCP (Sharad Pawar), or NCP (SP), with the Kerala unit staying loyal to the veteran leader. Praful Patel had earlier issued an ultimatum to the Kerala unit, asking its two legislators to either resign or switch allegiance to Ajit Pawar's faction. While the initial deadline was May 31, a fresh letter reiterating the demand was sent recently, warning of consequences for non-compliance. However, Thomas, who also serves as the state NCP president, dismissed the letter. 'Tell me, which party do Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule belong to? They (Ajit Pawar and Patel) all contested on the same symbol. We are with Pawarji. They have nothing better to do than send letters,' he said. 'The Kerala Assembly Speaker will decide our status. We've already informed the Supreme Court that we are with Pawar. No institution is above the apex court. Also, the NCP is a state party now, not a national one,' Thomas added. State Minister Saseendran also brushed off Patel's letter, calling it 'no big deal.' 'At the appropriate time, we'll do what is necessary. We now identify as NCP (SP),' he said. The Kerala unit has ruled out aligning with Ajit Pawar's faction, which is now part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Notably, the Left Front in Kerala recently faced a similar setback when JD(S) -- another constituent -- saw its national president and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda ally with the BJP. JD(S), too, continues to be part of the ruling Left coalition in the state.

NCP unit in Kerala faces turmoil as Ajit Pawar group demands resignation of LDF legislators for alleged anti-party activities
The internal strife in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in Maharashtra appeared to reverberate in its Kerala unit, a ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) ally, on Tuesday (July 15, 2025). The NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar, Deputy Chief Minister in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Maharashtra, has demanded the resignation of two NCP-Sharad Chandra Pawar group legislators aligned with the LDF in Kerala for alleged anti-party activities. Praful Patel, NCP-Ajit Pawar faction's national working president and chairman of the party's central disciplinary committee, has also put Kerala Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran and Kuttanad MLA Thomas K. Thomas on notice for allegedly pursuing an anti-party line in Kerala. He has disqualified them from the NCP's primary membership for six years. Mr. Patel noted that both Mr. Thomas and Mr. Saseendran had won under the unified NCP's clock symbol in the 2021 Assembly elections in Kerala. Subsequently, in 2023, the Election Commission of India (ECI) recognised the NDA-aligned Ajit Pawar faction as the 'original' NCP. He accused the legislators of skipping party meetings and working as a parallel political entity far outside the 'authentic' NCP's ambit. Mr. Patel warned both the Kerala leaders that the NCP-Ajit Pawar would draw them to court for allegedly violating the provisions of the Anti-Defection Law and the People's Representation Act. Thomas, Saseendran hit back Mr. Thomas told The Hindu that the NCP's constitution did not envisage a national working president post as claimed by Mr. Patel. Moreover, the two NCP legislators in Kerala were aligned with Mr. Sharad Pawar. 'So where is the question of an NCP split in Kerala?' he added. Mr. Saseendran stated that the Supreme Court order awarding the NCP name to Mr. Ajit Pawar was an interim order. He said he awaited the apex court's final decision in the dispute over the NCP symbol and original name. The NCP legislators in Kerala had aligned with the Sharad Pawar faction after the party's split over Mr. Ajit Pawar's decision to align with the NDA in Maharashtra in 2023. Subsequently, Mr. Saseendran and Mr. Thomas filed affidavits in the Supreme Court declaring their allegiance to Mr. Sharad Pawar. They accused Mr. Ajit Pawar of 'abandoning NCP's founding Gandhian and Ambedkarite values' and swore their commitment to the LDF. No ethical compunction: Satheesan Meanwhile, Kerala's Leader of the Opposition V.D. Sastheesan said the LDF had 'no ethical compunction in embracing two BJP allies' in Kerala, despite the Communist Party of India (Marxist)'s [CPI(M)] 'grandstanding against the Sangh Parivar.' He said the national leadership of the Janata Dal (Secular), which has two legislators, including Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty, was aligned with the BJP and an NDA ally. 'The LDF has lost its moral compass', he added.
