Kerala NCP defies national leadership's call to resign
The Kerala NCP continues to remain an ally of the ruling CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF). The internal rift began after Ajit Pawar broke away from the party headed by his uncle and party founder, Sharad Pawar.
The Election Commission recently dealt a blow to Sharad Pawar by recognising Ajit Pawar's faction as the official NCP, granting it the party name and symbol. Following this, the Sharad Pawar faction has been renamed as NCP (Sharad Pawar), or NCP (SP), with the Kerala unit staying loyal to the veteran leader.
Praful Patel had earlier issued an ultimatum to the Kerala unit, asking its two legislators to either resign or switch allegiance to Ajit Pawar's faction. While the initial deadline was May 31, a fresh letter reiterating the demand was sent recently, warning of consequences for non-compliance.
However, Thomas, who also serves as the state NCP president, dismissed the letter.
'Tell me, which party do Sharad Pawar and Supriya Sule belong to? They (Ajit Pawar and Patel) all contested on the same symbol. We are with Pawarji. They have nothing better to do than send letters,' he said.
'The Kerala Assembly Speaker will decide our status. We've already informed the Supreme Court that we are with Pawar. No institution is above the apex court. Also, the NCP is a state party now, not a national one,' Thomas added.
State Minister Saseendran also brushed off Patel's letter, calling it 'no big deal.'
'At the appropriate time, we'll do what is necessary. We now identify as NCP (SP),' he said.
The Kerala unit has ruled out aligning with Ajit Pawar's faction, which is now part of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Notably, the Left Front in Kerala recently faced a similar setback when JD(S) -- another constituent -- saw its national president and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda ally with the BJP.
JD(S), too, continues to be part of the ruling Left coalition in the state.

Bengaluru: BJP legislator and former Karnataka Minister Byrathi Basavaraj on Tuesday denied any involvement in the recent murder of rowdy-sheeter Shivaprakash alias 'Biklu Shiva', terming the police FIR against him as 'politically motivated' and an attempt to tarnish his public image. I will bring this matter to the attention of the Home Minister Dr. G Parameshwara.' The BJP leader said he would initiate legal proceedings to have his name removed from the FIR. The FIR, filed at Bharathinagar Police Station in Bengaluru, names Basavaraj and four others—identified as Jagadeesh, Kiran, Vimal, and Anil—as accused in the murder of Shivaprakash. The complaint, filed by the victim's mother Vijayalakshmi, alleges that Shivaprakash had been repeatedly threatened over a land dispute near Kittaganur and was attacked with lethal weapons outside his home by a group that arrived in a white Scorpio late at night. The complaint further alleges that Basavaraj's influence enabled the assailants to carry out the murder, a claim the legislator has strongly refuted.

In light of this, the HSC, Alim and HSC (Vocational) exams in the Gopalganj district have been postponed. The notices of the postponement were issued at 10:30 pm (local time) yesterday. Apart from Gopalganj, NCP held rallies in several other districts on Wednesday, including Chattogram and Noakhali, condemning the attack. Reeling through the aftermath of the attack, NCP Convener Nahid Islam demanded the arrest of the culprits at a press conference in Kulna. The Arrow-4 system has been developed based on the 'shoot-look-shoot' operational theory, according to Israel Aerospace Industries. Once Arrow-4 is deployed, Israel will gain an additional layer of security beyond the existing Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 systems. This project began in 2021 when Israel and the United States jointly announced the development of the Arrow-4 system. The Arrow series defense system is already the world's first fully operational anti-ballistic missile system, which includes the Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 missiles. The Arrow-2 and Arrow-3 missiles are so powerful that it can intercept incoming missiles traveling at speeds of up to 3 km/second. With the introduction of the Arrow-4, this network will become even more lethal. It has the capability to neutralize hypersonic missiles and uses mid-course correction technology.
