Police investigate alleged assault of biker on Moncton bike path

Police say they received a report of a man lying on a biking trail behind High Street at around 6:11 p.m. The man was taken to hospital with what police believe are serious, life-threatening injuries consistent with an assault. He remains in the hospital according to a news release Wednesday. Police have now turned to the public in reconstructing the events surrounding the assault, and are asking anyone with information to contact them at 506-857-2400. Two men arrested following firearm incident in Hillsdale, N.B.

Two men have been arrested following a firearm incident in Hillsdale, N.B., earlier this month. RCMP says they responded to a request for help at a residence on Route 111 from the Saint John Police Force in relation to a possible missing woman around 8:16 a.m. on July 16. When officers arrived, the woman exited the house, saying two individuals who were both known to police were still inside the building and had access to firearms. Police contained the area as a precautionary measure, and the RCMP Emergency Response Team and tactical armoured vehicles attended the scene. The first individual, 55-year-old Gary Cook from Hillsdale, exited the residence and was arrested by police. The second individual, 36-year-old Kevin Hanson of Springfield, exited the residence a short time later and was arrested. Police executed a search warrant on the home, where they seized a shotgun and a crossbow, according to a news release Wednesday. Both men appeared in court on Thursday. Cook was charged with unsafe storage of a firearm and was released. He's set to appear back in court on Aug. 14. Hanson has been charged with: - possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose - unauthorized possession of a firearm - unsafe storage of a firearm - failure to comply with a court order Hanson was remanded into custody on previous charges and is set to appear in court at a later date. Los Angeles — Three world records in five days put Summer McIntosh in rare company and now the 18-year-old Canadian swimming sensation is primed to take the world championships by storm. Article content McIntosh won three gold medals at the Paris Olympics last year and then broke three world records in a breathtaking performance at the Canadian trials in June. Article content Article content The teenager is the first swimmer to set world records in three different individual events since Michael Phelps did it on the way to his glittering eight-gold haul at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Article content Article content 'Absolutely wild,' McIntosh said of the accomplishment in an interview with Canadian broadcaster CBC. Article content Article content Then she promptly pointed to a litany of things she could improve on in each race, saying the self-criticism is part of her mission to keep testing the boundaries of her sport. Article content 'I don't think there is such a thing as a perfect race, at least I haven't done it yet,' she said ahead of the world championships in Singapore starting on Sunday. Article content 'There's room for more and that's what keeps me going. And I'm also still so young, I have so much more to achieve and I know I can get so much stronger.' Article content That competitive spirit runs deep in the McIntosh family. Article content Her mother Jill competed at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics in swimming and older sister Brooke is a top pairs figure skater who won bronze in 2022 at the world junior championships. Article content 'We're very competitive. This is really in our blood,' Brooke once said. Article content – Wanting more – Article content McIntosh's rapid journey to the pinnacle of swimming has taken her from Canada to Florida, where she trained with the Sarasota Sharks from 2022 and through the Paris Games. Article content After the world championships she will begin training with Phelps's mentor Bob Bowman in Texas, as she builds toward the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. Article content In the meantime she has been training since January with French coach Fred Vergnoux and his group in Antibes, crediting his contribution to 'the best meet of my career' despite the relatively brief association. Article content 'I've gone way faster than I ever could have imagined,' she said. Article content At the Canadian trials in Victoria she smashed the 400m freestyle world record with a time of 3min 54.18sec, regaining a mark she had lost to Australian Ariarne Titmus. Article content She also broke the decade-old 200m individual medley world mark and lowered her own 400m medley world record. Article content In between she threatened Katie Ledecky's latest 800m free world mark on the way to the third-fastest time in history. Article content She also clocked the second-fastest 200m butterfly ever, edging toward the record set by China's Liu Zige in 2009. Article content McIntosh launched her Olympic career in 2021 in Tokyo, where at 14 she was the youngest member of the Canadian team. Article content She didn't win a medal but in Paris last summer she took gold in the 200m butterfly, 200m medley and 400m medley, and claimed silver in the 400m free. Article content
