Tandoori Grill brings new food options to Mount Forest

MOUNT FOREST — When Fergus resident and business owner, Rakesh Patel, turned to social media three months ago asking Mount Forest residents if they'd be open to a new Indian fusion restaurant on Main Street, he was pleasantly surprised when he received 200+ comments begging him to bring his business to town. The comments cemented what he already suspected: Mount Forest residents were sick of pizza . 'Whenever I visit Mount Forest, there's nothing to eat, it's just seven or eight pizza locations,' said Patel, who moved to Fergus almost two years ago. 'Before opening ... I asked everybody which type of restaurant they wanted and they said whatever you bring, please no pizza.' Enter the Mount Forest Tandoori Grill. Set to open in the last week of July, the Mount Forest Tandoori Grill is a new standalone takeout Indian restaurant with limited seating located at 392 Main St., which was formerly Mount Forest Pizza. Offering biryani, curry, and various grilled meat dishes, Patel said he's hopeful his business will bring a new range of flavours for Mount Forest residents to try and enjoy. 'The population is growing now, and I see that there are a lot of people who need a different flavour now instead of pizza or takeout restaurants like Burger King,' said Patel. Tandoori cuisine is named after the tandoor, a large clay oven/barbecue in which meats like chicken, lamb, beef, and/or shrimp are placed on long skewers, lowered into the oven, and cooked quickly at very high temperatures. Before he grills the meat, Patel marinates it in a combination of yogurt and traditional spice blends, typically spices like garam masala, cumin, coriander, black pepper, red chili powder, turmeric and fenugreek leaves, for 24 hours to infuse the flavours. 'It's fresh and makes a smoky flavour ... Tandoori flavours are very authentic,' explained Patel. 'It (the oven) is a big unit, 36' by 36', and we put the whole stick of meat inside.' Moving to Canada from Gujarat, India, Patel worked in Mississauga before moving to Fergus and always dreamed of using his cooking background to open his own restaurant. 'Not to say that butter chicken is common, but nowadays everybody knows and likes authentic Indian flavours, tandoori flavours, so that's why I picked Mount Forest,' said Patel. 'I wanted to try something myself, something different.' When visiting the Mount Forest Tandoori Grill, Patel recommends trying classic dishes like butter chicken and tandoori chicken (yogourt-spiced chicken leg and breasts cooked in the tandoor), or for the spice-lovers, Hariyali Chicken Tikka (chicken breast marinated in green herbs and spices and grilled in the tandoor). For vegetarians, he's offering a range of paneer-based dishes like paneer makhani, a buttery tomato curry with chunks of soft cheese, and more traditional options like saag aloo, a curry dish made with spinach and potatoes in a lightly spiced gravy. Torrent Pharmaceuticals to acquire additional 2.41% stake in JB Chemicals for Rs 620 crore

By Aditya Bhagchandani Published on July 3, 2025, 22:20 IST Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited has announced that it will acquire up to 2.41% of the equity share capital of JB Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Limited (JB Chemicals) for a total consideration of approximately ₹620 crore. In a filing dated July 3, 2025, Torrent Pharma said it signed a share purchase agreement (SPA) with 48 employees of JB Chemicals to purchase 38,75,056 equity shares at ₹1,600 per share. This follows the board's earlier approval (on June 29, 2025) to acquire a controlling stake in JB Chemicals. The acquisition is subject to shareholder and regulatory approvals, and will be completed after Torrent finalizes the controlling stake transaction in JB Chemicals. The company may also acquire an additional 0.39% stake (around 6.24 lakh shares) from other employees at the same price if definitive agreements are signed later. Torrent clarified that the acquisition does not constitute a related-party transaction, and the promoter group has no interest in the deal. This move strengthens Torrent's position in the Indian pharmaceutical space as it looks to consolidate its presence by acquiring a majority stake and additional shares from JB Chemicals' employees exercising their stock options. Details of the acquisition: Stake: 2.41% equity in JB Chemicals Number of shares: 38,75,056 Price per share: ₹1,600 Total consideration: ₹620 crore Sellers: 48 employees of JB Chemicals The company also indicated it would disclose further transactions related to the potential acquisition of the remaining 0.39% stake in due course. Foreign Exchange opens brewpub, restaurant in downtown Aurora

After years of brewing and selling beer, the award-winning Foreign Exchange Brewing Company now has a physical location in downtown Aurora. While the company's beer is of course for sale on-site at the new location, and patrons can see the brewing area through windows in the seating area, the brewpub also serves food that fuses Mexican and Indian cuisine. But beyond that, owner Ricky Cervantes said he wants the newly-opened space to first and foremost be a community hub, a place where people can come with their family and friends. 'The reason we were able to succeed these last five years is by building community, and we hope to build a community here within Aurora, within downtown Aurora, and be a beacon for Aurora,' Cervantes said during an official grand opening ceremony on Wednesday. After the ceremony, Cervantes told The Beacon-News that it is exciting to be able to open up a brewery within a historic building in the town he grew up in. Plus, being able to contribute to the revitalization of downtown Aurora 'means the most to us,' he said. Ald. Jonathan Nunez, 4th Ward, said in a speech at the grand opening that he is glad to see someone who also grew up in Aurora stick around, reinvest in the community and 'offer to us what we have now in Foreign Exchange.' Those who haven't tried their products, Nunez said, are in for a treat. Foreign Exchange hopes to use its existing fan-base and following to bring more people from outside Aurora to discover or rediscover its downtown since it has changed so dramatically over the past decade, Cervantes said after the ceremony. And he is no stranger to downtown Aurora. In fact, Cervantes said it was at his apartment in Leland Tower where he first started brewing beer. What originally got Cervantes into brewing, he said, is just that he had a lot of fun ideas. He started brewing and bottling beer to share with friends, and then he started going to beer releases and sharing with other beer drinkers in the Chicago region. That built him a following, he said. But it wasn't until he did a large-scale batch with the help of the former Oswego Brewing Company, and 450 people lined up to get some, that he realized, 'maybe I've got something here,' according to Cervantes. Foreign Exchange commercially launched the next year, he said, with distribution starting in February 2020. The company's beer is now distributed across Illinois, he said. 'I want to just thank everyone that's followed us over the years,' Cervantes said. 'People who have bought our beers off the shelf are the reason why we now have a brick and mortar, and we hope to continue growing for years to come.' Foreign Exchange's new physical location in Aurora currently serves 15 beers, according to the menu on the company's website. Of those, one is a 'guest tap' from Blind Corner Brewery and one, the Gratification, is the company's first from the new downtown brewery. Alongside the grand opening ribbon-cutting, the company also released its newest beer: the Barrel-aged Between Two Parallels. According to a Facebook post, it is made with a blend of imperial stouts that were aged between 25 and 31 months in Four Roses and Wild Turkey Distillery casks and conditioned on Madagascar vanilla and marshmallow. The restaurant and brewpub is located at 110 Cross St. in Aurora and is open 3 to 9 p.m. Monday to Wednesday, noon to 9 p.m. on Thursday, noon to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
