Ajay Devgn honoured for Maidaan role
Ajay Devgn
Ajay Devgn has bagged the Best Actor (Male) – Movies (Popular) award at the Movified Digital Awards for his powerful performance in the sports biopic Maidaan. Celebrating talent across OTT and theatrical releases, the second edition of the awards honoured storytelling excellence shaped by audience voices.
Ajay Devgn starrer 'Maidaan', which hit the theatres in April this year, is received a decent response after its OTT premiere. A biographical drama about footballer Syed Abdul Rahim, 'Maidaan' featured Ajay Devgn in the lead role. The director also stated that during the theatrical release, not many people watched it, and all those who watched have 'only praised' it.
In an earlier interview with BT, Ajay had shared how viewers' choices are different now.
He said, 'I think that phase is over. Everybody knows that we are 50; we are still here and working. Times have changed. Viewers are accepting different kinds of films, which actors couldn't do earlier — right from a film like Raid (2018) to many other movies, where age is not really the criterion. Today's 50 is like yesterday's 40 or even 35.
We feel as fit as we felt 25 years ago. So, I don't think that the age factor plays on the audience's mind. And in any case, I would always like to play characters that suit me. In fact, I get uncomfortable if I have to play a 30-year-old. If you see my last few films, I have never tried to play characters that are very young. Also, who doesn't know that I am 50 and my colleagues are either older or younger than me?'

Sitaare Zameen Par box office collection day 11: Aamir Khan's film to pass Rs 200 crore mark worldwide this week
RS Prasanna's coming-of-age sports comedy Sitaare Zameen Par, starring Aamir Khan in the lead, witnessed its most drastic drop on Monday, its 11th day at the domestic box office. The film, which had been slowly and surely making its presence felt in cinemas, has started to slow down towards the end of its second week. On Monday, Sitaare Zameen Par earned Rs 3.75 crore, which was a massive drop from its second Sunday collection of Rs 14.5 crore. It's also the lowest the film has earned in a single day so far, its previous lowest being Rs 6.5 crore on its first Thursday. As per Sacnilk, the current box office collection of Sitaare Zameen Par in India stands at Rs 126.4 crore. Aamir's film still hasn't been able to surpass Salman Khan's action movie Sikandar, which earned Rs 129.95 crore at the domestic box office earlier this year. It's also trailing Akshay Kumar's Sky Force, which made Rs 134.93 crore earlier this year. Over the past four days, Sitaare Zameen Par has also begun to face a new competitor in Vishal Furia's mythological horror film Maa, starring Kajol. Co-produced by Ajay Devgn, the film comes from the world of his hit supernatural thriller last year, Shaitaan. Maa, which also witnessed a drastic drop on its first Monday, has collected Rs 19.9 crore so far at the box office. Starting this Friday both films will face fresh competition in the Hindi market. Anurag Basu's romantic anthology Metro…In Dino, the spiritual successor to his 2007 hit film Life.. in a Metro, hits cinemas on July 4. Backed by T-Series, it boasts of a stellar ensemble cast including Sara Ali Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Ali Fazal, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Neena Gupta, Anupam Kher, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Pankaj Tripathi. S This Friday will also see the release of the Hindi dubbed version of Gareth Edwards' sci-fi adventure thriller epic Jurassic World Rebirth, starring Scarlett Johansson and Mahershala Ali. The Hindi box office collection (Rs 29.68 crore) of Christopher McQuarrie's Tom Cruise-starring spy thriller Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning is proof how much the dubbed Hindi versions of Hollywood epics amass in India. Maa Box Office Collection Day 4: Kajol's horror film surpasses Kangana Ranaut's Emergency, will hit Rs 20 crore today
The Kajol-starrer Maa had a decent opening at the box office before it saw a slight increase in its collections over the weekend. However, on Monday, the film saw a significant drop of almost 72 percent. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film failed to surpass the Monday litmus test and minted Rs 1.97 crore. This brings the film's domestic collection to Rs 19.62 crore. Maa marks Kajol's first time in the horror genre. The film, which is produced by her husband Ajay Devgn, began its box office journey on Friday, minting Rs 4.65 crore. The film witnessed a jump over the weekend, minting Rs 6 crore and Rs 7 crore on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. However, Maa failed to maintain the momentum on Monday and saw a significant drop, collecting only Rs 1.97 crore. Maa had an overall 12.67% Hindi occupancy on Monday. In the NCR region, where it had the maximum number of shows (633), it recorded 16.50% occupancy. In Mumbai, it had 473 shows and saw 14.50% occupancy, whereas in Pune, where it had 193 shows, it recorded 12.25% occupancy. Despite its lukewarm performance, Maa has surpassed Kangana Ranaut's Emergency in terms of lifetime domestic collection. Emergency's India nett collection stood at Rs 18.35 crore, and Maa has already collected Rs 19.62 crore within four days of its release. Maa has also surpassed the lifetime haul of Junaid Khan and Khushi Kapoor's Loveyapa, which minted a total of Rs 8.85 crore in India during its run. Kajol's last theatrical release was Salaam Venky (2022), which was a flop at the box office, minting Rs 3.36 crore in India nett. Her last major hit was Tanhaji (2020), which was led by Ajay Devgn and featured her in a supporting role. Tanhaji had raked in Rs 279.6 crore in India. In recent years, the horror genre has gained significant traction in the Hindi film industry. In 2025 alone, four horror films hit the screens — Chhorii 2, The Bhootnii, Kapkapiii, and Maa. However, none managed to leave a lasting impression on the audience. Kapkapiii and The Bhootnii, both of which had theatrical releases unlike Chhorii 2, failed to perform well at the box office. Kapkapiii minted just Rs 1.78 crore in its lifetime run, while The Bhootnii wrapped up its run with a total of Rs 9.57 crore. It appears that Maa is also struggling to make a significant impact at the box office. The film doesn't hold a candle when compared to Ajay Devgn-starrer Shaitaan, which released in 2024 and was a massive box office success. Shaitaan, which also featured Jyothika and R Madhavan, grossed Rs 213.55 crore worldwide. In its first four days alone, the film collected Rs 54 crore — far ahead of Maa's Rs 19.62 crore in the same timeframe.

Aamir Khan believes the audience should accept all kinds of films With 'Sitaare Zameen Par', Aamir Khan once again has brought the attention of the audience towards a very sensitive subject. He tugged at the hearts of the audience by presenting a story about kids with special needs. In an era where thrillers, high-octane dramas, and heist series are a rage, he brought something different to the table and believes that the audience should support all genres and different subjects with their heart open. 'People love stories. All kinds of stories. If you only support action films, that's all filmmakers will make. And then you will have to watch only action movies in theatres. If you like all types of films and want to watch all types of films, go to the theatres. Your support gives creators the freedom to tell diverse stories," he said in an interview with Pinkvilla. He added that when audiences back unique stories, it gives the filmmaker the courage to bring stories that are closer to their hearts.
