Miley Cyrus & Brittany Howard perform ‘Nothing Compares 2 U' on ‘SNL50' without O'Connor mention
Nothing Compares 2 U
during
SNL50: The Anniversary Special
on Sunday night. The Prince-penned track became a global hit after Sinéad O'Connor recorded it for her 1990 album
I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.
While their performance seemed to honor O'Connor, there was no mention of her 1992
Saturday Night Live
controversy.
That year, she famously tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II after performing Bob Marley's
War
, declaring, 'Fight the real enemy,' as a protest against sexual abuse within the Catholic Church. The act led to her ban from
SNL
and widespread backlash, including mockery on the show and criticism from host Joe Pesci.
O'Connor later addressed the moment in her 2021 memoir,
Rememberings
:
'A lot of people say or think that tearing up the pope's photo derailed my career. That's not how I feel about it. I feel that having a number-one record derailed my career and my tearing the photo put me back on the right track.'
In an interview with
People
the same year, she reflected, 'I was well aware there would be [backlash]… We joke in Ireland or in Europe that Americans don't think anything happened until it happened to them.'
O'Connor passed away in 2023 at the age of 56.

Miley Cyrus ‘Feels like a dream' on receiving star on Hollywood Walk of Fame
Miley Cyrus is joining a long list of entertainment legends, as she's been announced as one of the honourees in the Hollywood Walk of Fame's 2026 class. The 'Flowers' hitmaker, now 32, celebrated the moment with a heartfelt Instagram post after the announcement was made during a press conference on July 2. Reflecting on her early days in Los Angeles, she wrote, 'When I first came to LA from Nashville as a little girl, my family would stay at a hotel on Hollywood Blvd, and I would go on late night walks with my dad when no one would recognize him. We'd have the gift shops to ourselves & buy knock-off Oscars and Marilyn Monroe merchandise.' 'To now be cemented on this legendary boulevard, surrounded by the icons who inspired me, feels like a dream,' she added. 'This moment will live forever, thank you to everyone in my life who made it possible. I am grateful to share this star with you.' Cyrus is part of a star-studded 2026 class that includes Timothée Chalamet, Demi Moore, Stanley Tucci, Emily Blunt, Josh Groban, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Gordon Ramsay, and Shaquille O'Neal. The honour comes on the heels of her new album Something Beautiful and its accompanying film, which premiered at the Tribeca Festival. It also follows her being named a Disney Legend at D23 last year, where she became the youngest person ever to receive the honour. After nearly two decades in the public eye, Miley's Walk of Fame star marks yet another milestone in a career that continues to evolve.

Dakota Johnson vacations in Europe with Kate Hudson weeks after breakup with Chris Martin
Dakota Johnson appears to be embracing single life, enjoying a European getaway with longtime family friend Kate Hudson. The trip comes just weeks after news broke that Johnson and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin had ended their nearly eight-year relationship. The Materialists star was spotted dining in Rome with Hudson, entrepreneur Douglas Chabbott, and her agent Maha Dakhil. During the evening, Ricky Martin briefly stopped by to greet the group, despite dining at a separate venue nearby. Photo: Backgrid Days later, Johnson and Hudson were seen cruising off the coast of Ibiza, as captured in images published by People. The pair spent the day in bikinis, relaxing on a white float with a friend, swimming in the sea, and enjoying the Mediterranean sun. Photo: Backgrid Their connection extends beyond recent travels—Johnson and Hudson are daughters of close Hollywood peers, Melanie Griffith and Goldie Hawn, respectively. Their shared history adds a personal touch to the timing of the trip. The girls trip follows reports of Johnson's split from Martin. Though the couple had recently been photographed on a yoga date, rumours of tension had circulated earlier in the year, only to be dismissed at the time. Neither Johnson nor Martin has addressed the breakup publicly.

Bhad Bhabie sued by American Express for $674K in unpaid charges
Rapper and internet personality Bhad Bhabie, born Danielle Bregoli, is facing a lawsuit from American Express over alleged unpaid credit card charges totaling $674,452.40. According to court documents filed on July 2, 2025, in Los Angeles County Superior Court and obtained by PEOPLE, American Express claims the 22-year-old breached a credit agreement after failing to make the required payments on her account. The company states that it extended credit to Bregoli in April 2021, but she stopped making payments around December 19, 2024. The lawsuit alleges that Bregoli agreed to repay all charges, fees, and interest either in full or through monthly payments. The credit card account, partially identified as XXXX‑XXXX‑X5000, was used for purchases and cash advances, according to the filing. American Express is now seeking damages for breach of contract. Representatives for both Bhad Bhabie and American Express have not responded to media requests for comment at the time of reporting. The lawsuit surfaces shortly after Bregoli's recent interview with Interview Magazine, in which she spoke openly about earning substantial income through her OnlyFans account. According to a screenshot shared in 2024, Bregoli claimed to have grossed over $71 million on the platform since joining in April 2021. Despite her financial success in recent years, the American Express lawsuit suggests significant financial management concerns for the rapper.
