Oho Enthan Baby Movie Review: Interesting ideas marred by unearned resolutions
The film begins with Mysskin's (as himself) assistant director Ashwin getting an opportunity to pitch a story to Vishnu Vishal (as himself). The actor's witty assistant, King (Redin Kingsley), sends Ashwin back, saying that the actor is in a mood to act in a love story and not in the kind of story he has pitched. A dejected Ashwin leaves, only to realise halfway that he indeed has a love story – his own – and heads back to Vishnu's residence to narrate the story. What is Ashwin's love story? What is the self-discovery he makes while narrating it to Vishnu Vishal and where does this self-discovery lead him? These questions form the central plot of Oho Enthan Baby.

To the film and the filmmaker's credit, the story had all the trappings of a coming-of-age romance with regular laughs. There are some useful ideas, such as not wanting to exploit one's own love story for the sake of becoming a director and the exploration of the anxiety attachment style. However, the film suffers from narrative paralysis. It meanders before reaching a particular point. You tend to agree with the resolution but are not convinced that the characters go through stuff sufficiently to be able to think the way they think and do things as a result.

Filmmaker Ashwin Kumar, who is gearing up for the release of his mythological epic 'Mahavatar Narsimha', is already deep into planning his next films. In an exclusive chat with India Today, the director spoke about his upcoming mythological projects and shared his vision of seeing Hrithik Roshan portray a divine role on 'Mahavatar Narasimha' marks his directorial debut, Ashwin revealed that two more ambitious mythological films are already in development. Shedding light on what's next, he shared, 'I will be bringing out 'Ajamila', it's another epic from the Puranas, but it will be live action. 'Mahavatar Narsimha' is a soft way to awaken the soul; that one (Ajamila) is a very hard way to awaken the soul. We will be doing that.'advertisementHe further added, 'I will tell more about it later, and we will also be doing a film on Ardhnarishwar, which is half Shiva, half Shakti - but this one will be set in a more real-world, modern-day scenario. So it will have a fantasy element too. These are both live-action films.' When asked if any actors were in talks for these upcoming projects, Ashwin clarified that casting will be dictated by the screenplay. 'Not yet. I am scripting it right now, but soon. I have some things in my mind about it. The writing tells you what actor is suited to it. I don't usually write with an actor suited for the role. I have to be true to the story, I have to be true to the screenplay, and the character. So, the character sculpts the actor, that's how I feel it,' he continued, 'And then my direction would help the character understand the story and screenplay, and then it meshes into this proper harmony.'On the topic of actors he'd like to collaborate with, Ashwin didn't hesitate. 'Hrithik Roshan!' he said instantly, going on to describe why the superstar would be a perfect fit for a mythological fantasy film. 'Hrithik is a demigod personified, when you look at his structure and his good moves as a dancer. So, I think him playing some sort of fantastical character, apart from the films that he does, is a part of his career. I would want to see him in that kind of a fantastic role.'And the role Ashwin envisions for Hrithik? 'Probably Nataraja, a dancer. A dancer who would create or destroy cosmically,' he has been much speculation about Hrithik being the initial choice to play Ravan in Nitesh Tiwari's 'Ramayana'. When asked if he believes Hrithik would have been the right fit, Ashwin offered a clear perspective. 'Mahavatar Narsimha' director Ashwin Kumar opened up about the evolving landscape of mythological cinema in India, the lessons learnt from 'Adipurush' failure, and why he believes Bharat's timeless stories are more relevant than an exclusive chat with India Today, the director reflected on Om Raut's 'Adipurush' which didn't quite land with audiences. Ashwin said, 'It was an attempt that went wrong, that's all I'll say.' When asked why, he explained, 'Because there's a lot of science to it, there's a lot of math to it that's already out there, so, no comments. But I understand what they were trying to do.'advertisementStill, he believes it is a necessary step. 'We learn our lessons. I believe it was good learning for the industry, the people, even the makers. The good part is, the people of this land keep giving us a chance to tell the same story time and again, because these are eternal stories,' he added. 'So of course, if that one didn't work - if told properly, I think it can do wonders. That's all hopes on 'Ramayana' now.' Ashwin also weighed in on the much-anticipated 'Ramayana' duology reportedly being made on a massive Rs. 4,000 crore budget. 'It's fantastic. I liked the teaser as well. I really pray and hope they do a brilliant turnaround industry event with that scale, that huge a budget,' he was also quick to stress that money alone doesn't guarantee impact. 'Budget plays a huge role in it. But at the same time, I think what is more important than just a budget is the feeling the film carries. It's a piece of art at the end of the day. And how you depict art is what the impressionist of the artist has gone into.'He continued, 'That is what I feel this Mahavatar Cinematic Universe is trying to bring to the people of the world - a cinematic, spiritual and transcending experience. That is the idea of the Mahavatar Universe.'For Ashwin, the success of films like 'Baahubali', 'RRR', and 'Kantara' proves the hunger for culturally rooted narratives. 'There's a vacuum for this kind of flavour, because this is Bharat Bhoomi. It has its own tales, embedded in our DNA, which unfortunately haven't been on the big screen for quite some time,' he said.'And when it surges, even in any little way, it just blows up. Because we have a vacuum that's waiting to be filled. These stories coming back on screen show the kind of demand that exists. This is an attempt to fulfill that demand," he passionately advocates for reclaiming Indian stories through a new cinematic lens. 'It's new-age cinema in the hands of new-age people from the land of Bharat created by Bharatiyas for the stories of Bharat, for the people of Bharat,' he said.'We may be constrained in budgets, but we have an open source, the DNA of this land, which has a resounding effect around the world, with the biggest companies being led by CEOs from India.
