Bill Simmons shreds Nets for ‘one of the worst trades of the decade'
After trading two-way wing Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets for Michael Porter Jr. and a 2032 first-round pick, Bill Simmons crushed Brooklyn for the deal.

'Did they have to even put Cam Johnson in the trade?' the Ringer honcho said on his eponymous podcast. 'I just think that trade, the more I thought about it over the last five days, is one of the worst trades of the decade. You have to attach a pick to get rid of Porter, and I also didn't get anything for Cam Johnson? Nothing?'
Simmons added that the Nets are among the 'bleakest' situations that any team is facing in the NBA right now, along with the Raptors, Bulls and Pelicans.
Porter Jr. has dealt with numerous injuries in his career, dating back to the 2018 draft, which led to him falling to No. 14 despite expectations he would be selected in the top five.

'It's bad. I thought it was a miracle trade for the Nuggets when it happened… Porter, I didn't think was tradable unless you took like a Bradley Beal. You know, $78 million for two years. He has a bad back. He has a f–ked up shoulder… For [the Nuggets] he was a complete impediment to making their roster better… here comes Brooklyn, and they're like, 'We just need one pick.' It's f–king crazy.'
It goes beyond the trade for Simmons, who also took aim at the Nets entering the 2025 draft with five first-round picks and making all of them to much criticism.

'I continue to think they did an awful job,' Simmons said. 'Like really bad. I didn't like their draft… I just don't understand anything they did.'
Johnson averaged a career-high 18.8 points per game on 39 percent shooting from 3 to go along with 3.4 assists and 3.4 rebounds per game while being known as a plus defender.
Porter Jr. put up 18.2 points per game on 39.5 percent from 3-point range with seven rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Nuggets and helped them win a title in 2023.

A'ja Wilson hit the floor hard while trying to go up for a layup on Tuesday night in Brooklyn. () Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson left their 87-78 loss to the New York Liberty early on Tuesday night after she took a hard fall and landed awkwardly on her arm and wrist. Wilson, midway through the second quarter at the Barclays Center, attacked the rim and went up for a layup. Wilson made contact with New York's Leonie Fiebich at the rim, however, and fell awkwardly directly on her arm. She hit the floor hard, and was clearly in a lot of pain as her teammates quickly surrounded her. Wilson eventually left the floor and went to the bench, but she returned to the game and hit a pair of free throws. A few minutes later, she left the game for good and went back to the locker room early. The team then ruled her out at halftime with a right wrist injury. Advertisement Further specifics are not yet known. Aces coach Beckky Hammon said after the game that she didn't have an update on Wilson's condition, but she is due for an MRI on Wednesday morning. Wilson, a three-time league MVP, entered the night averaging 21.9 points and nine rebounds per game this season, her eighth in the WNBA. She had just two points and four rebounds when she went down in the second quarter, and shot 0 of 3 from the field. The Aces took a two-point lead into the locker room at halftime. Though they hung in there for a while without Wilson, the Liberty eventually surged ahead in the fourth quarter to grab the nine-point win. The Aces didn't hit a single field goal in the final five minutes of the game, either. Sabrina Ionescu led the Liberty with 28 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists in the win despite shooting 1 of 9 from behind the arc. Breanna Stewart added 15 points and seven rebounds, and Fiebich finished with 15 points. The win pushed the Liberty to 13-6 on the season. Jackie Young led the Aces with 19 points and seven rebounds in the loss. Dana Evans put up 16 points off the bench. Wilson was set to appear in what would be her seventh All-Star game next week, too. But with Tuesday's injury, her status for the foreseeable future is now in doubt.

Nets officially announce trade acquiring Nuggets' Michael Porter Jr.
The Brooklyn Nets made one of the more surprising moves of the 2025 NBA offseason when they traded forward Cam Johnson to the Denver Nuggets for forward Michael Porter Jr. Brooklyn finally traded away Johnson after over one year of his name being in trade rumors and now with the free-agency moratorium lifted on July 6, the Nets can acknowledge both players. "We're excited to welcome Michael and his family to Brooklyn. Michael is a dynamic offensive talent, who will add shooting and floor spacing to our team while also providing a strong presence on the boards," Nets general manager Sean Marks said of Porter, per the team's press release. Not only did Brooklyn get Porter in the deal, but they also received Denver's 2032 first-round pick that could prove to be a premium asset in the near future. Advertisement "He's been an integral part of a team that reached the pinnacle of success, and sharing his knowledge of what it takes to achieve at the highest level will be invaluable to our young roster," Marks continued on Porter. While the Nets and the fanbase are excited to see how the team changes with Porter on the roster, Marks took the time to address Johnson's contributions to the team since his arrival. "We also want to sincerely thank Cam for everything he brought to our team these past few seasons," Marks said of Johnson, who was acquired by Brooklyn via trade from the Phoenix Suns during the 2022-23 season. Injury sidelines former UNC basketball star for duration of NBA Summer League
An injury will keep this UNC standout from playing in NBA Summer League action. Drake Powell won't play for the Brooklyn Nets' NBA Summer League team because of a left knee issue. #UNC #ProHeels Just two weeks after the highly-anticipated NBA Draft, we're starting to see final rosters take shape. Former UNC standout Drake Powell, who ascended into the starting lineup last year, went 22nd overall to the Atlanta Hawks – and ended up with the Brooklyn Nets. Two weeks post-draft means the start of NBA Summer League, which gives draft picks golden opportunities to showcase their skills in live, game action against each before preseason and regular season action. The post-draft hope was Powell, not guaranteed a starting spot in Brooklyn's lineup, would play for his new team in Summer League action. Earlier Tuesday, we learned Powell's decision. Due to a previously undisclosed injury in which Powell tweaked his left knee, he will not participate in Summer League action this month. Powell's rookie teammates – Egor Demin, Nolan Traoré, Ben Saraf, Danny Wolf and Adou Thiero – should all still suit up for the Nets this summer. "It's extremely disappointing not to play [in summer league] because coming in with these guys, I want to compete with them,' Powell said recently. 'So yeah it's definitely frustrating, but I understand it. I'd say it's more of a precaution type thing right now.' Powell showcased tremendous durability during his lone season in Chapel Hill, appearing in all 40 (three exhibition) Tar Heel games and starting 27 of them. Powell averaged 7.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, but defense was his calling card, as evidenced by numerous chasedown blocks and defending the opposition's top scorer. When Powell first suits up for Brooklyn, he'll compete with Jalen Wilson and recently re-signed Ziaire Williams for minutes at small forward. There's also a chance that Powell plays minutes at shooting guard and power forward.
