Tripura farmers to benefit from AI and Drone Tech: CM Manik Saha
'The state government is working with special emphasis on increasing the income of farmers. Farmers' income has increased significantly compared to the financial year 2015-16. The aim is to achieve food self-sufficiency through the use of advanced technology,' he said.
Saha was speaking at the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan held at Bishramganj in Sepahijala district on Thursday, organised as part of a nationwide campaign. He was accompanied by Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath.
'This campaign has been launched with the objective of empowering farmers through advanced technology. The government is committed to ensuring the welfare of farmers through technological advancement. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special emphasis on financially empowering farmers, and our state government is working in the same direction,' the Chief Minister said.
'One of the key goals of this Abhiyan is to raise awareness among farmers about modern agricultural technologies. As a result, the agricultural sector will witness further improvement, enabling the cultivation of high-quality crops,' he added.
Saha also highlighted the Rising Northeast Investors Summit held recently in New Delhi, where all eight northeastern states participated.
'MoUs worth Rs 30,000 crore were signed at the summit, out of which Tripura alone accounted for over Rs 15,600 crore. This clearly shows that investors are now willing to come to Tripura,' he stated.
He asserted that the development of farmers is essential for the overall progress of the state and the country.
'In various districts across the state, farmers are being supported through the adoption of advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) and drone technology. Work is in progress in collaboration with NITI Aayog and the Union Ministry of Agriculture to improve the AI-based crop advisory system under the Digital Agriculture Mission in Tripura. This initiative has already yielded notable benefits,' the Chief Minister said.
He further noted that since the BJP government came to power in Tripura, paddy has been procured from farmers at the minimum support price (MSP).
'Over Rs 446 crore has been disbursed so far, with paddy being purchased at Rs 23 per kilogram. Soil Health Cards have been distributed to more than 2.06 lakh farmers, and one Farmer Producer Organisation (FPO) has been formed in each of the 58 blocks,' he informed.
The program was attended by Sepahijala Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Dutta, Agriculture Department Secretary Apurba Roy, Sepahijala District Magistrate Siddharth Shiv Jaiswal, and other senior officials. (ANI)

Air India releases Rs 25 lakh interim compensation to more families of crash victims
New Delhi: Air India said on Saturday that so far, its has released the interim compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the families of 147 of the 229 deceased passengers, and also the 19 persons who lost their lives at the accident site of the AI 171 plane crash in Ahmedabad. In addition, the requisite documents of 52 others have been verified, to whose families the interim compensation will be released progressively, the Tata Group-owned airline said in a statement. Over a month ago, Air India started releasing interim payment of Rs 25 lakh to the affected families, to help them meet their immediate financial needs. 'Air India stands in solidarity with the families and those affected by the AI 171 accident. We continue to mourn their loss and remain fully committed to providing support during this difficult time,' said the airline. To provide further support, the Tata Group has also registered 'The AI 171 Memorial and Welfare Trust.' The Trust has promised to restore the infrastructure of the B.J. Medical College Hostel, which was damaged in the accident, and to provide an ex gratia payment of Rs 1 crore for each of the deceased. The Trust will also provide aid and assistance for alleviation of any trauma or distress suffered by the first responders, medical and disaster relief professionals, social workers, and governmental staff who provided invaluable institutional support and service in the aftermath of the accident, as per the statement. Last month, an Air-India flight from Ahmedabad to London crashed shortly after take-off, killing 241 on board and 19 on the ground. A preliminary report by the Air Accidents Investigation Bureau (AAIB) revealed that the aircraft's engines had shut down just seconds after take-off due to fuel supply being cut off. However, a full report is yet to be announced.

Saving the snow leopard in Himachal: Big Cat Alliance donates Rs 3cr for Tsarap Chu Conservation Reserve
1 2 Shimla: A team of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), led by Soumitra Dasgupta, has presented a Rs 3-crore cheque to chief minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for the conservation and management of the newly notified Tsarap Chu Conservation Reserve in Lahaul and Spiti district, which has a high density of snow leopards. Tsarap Chu was formally notified as India's largest conservation reserve on May 7, covering an area of 1,585 square kilometres. The reserve is located in a strategic trans-Himalayan region, bordering the Union Territory of Ladakh in the north, Kibber Wildlife Sanctuary in the east, Kabjima Nullah in the south, and Chandertal Wildlife Sanctuary and Baralacha Pass in the west. Tsarap Chu Conservation Reserve is located in one of the high-density habitats of the snow leopards in Himachal Pradesh and supports a rich variety of Himalayan and Trans-Himalayan flora and fauna, including species such as Tibetan Wolf, Kiang, Bharal, Ibex, Tibetan Argali, and avifauna like Rose Finches, Tibetan Ravens, and Yellow-billed Choughs. Expressing gratitude for the support, Sukhu said the funds would catalyse early-stage conservation activities such as the preparation of the management plan, the constitution of the conservation reserve management committee, and capacity building of relevant stakeholders.
