OPEN// FM reaffirms Egypt's commitment to supporting peace, stability worldwide
This came during the Foreign Minister's participation, alongside Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, in the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of the "Gamal Abdel Nasser Fellowship for International Leadership." The program is held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, under the theme: 'Egypt and the United Nations: 80 Years of Representing the Global South's Causes,' with the attendance of 150 participants representing 80 countries.
Minister Abdelatty welcomed the youth from the Global South participating in the fellowship, stressing that Egypt is always proud to host initiatives that enhance the role of youth and strengthen bridges of cooperation and mutual understanding between nations.
He outlined the fundamental principles underpinning Egypt's foreign policy, noting that it stems from a balanced vision and clear strategy established by President Sisi since 2014.
The minister highlighted Egypt's firm belief in the importance of a multilateral system as the foundation of a fair and balanced international order. He emphasized the indispensable role of the United Nations as a platform that reflects the collective will of the international community, highlighting Egypt's active participation in UN institutions. He reiterated Egypt's full commitment to working towards reforming the international system, including the structure of the global financial system and the UN Security Council.
He noted that these institutions, in their current form, do not fully reflect the interests of the Global South or fairly address the aspirations of its people for justice and balanced representation.
In a related context, Minister Abdelatty addressed the priorities of Egypt's foreign policy in the field of sustainable development, pointing out that 'Egypt Vision 2030' is a comprehensive strategic framework based on principles of social justice and empowerment, aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
He affirmed Egypt's leading role in climate change issues, especially after hosting the COP27 Climate Summit, and the subsequent initiatives aimed at supporting green transition and financing climate projects in developing countries, particularly in Africa.
The Minister also highlighted the importance of digital transformation and artificial intelligence as key drivers of future development, stressing that Egypt continues to utilize these tools in line with its national interests and development goals.
Minister Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's stance on key regional issues, noting that the region is witnessing alarming developments, especially as the foundational principles of the international system are increasingly being questioned.
He addressed Israel's continued violations of the core principles of international law and international humanitarian law, as well as its repeated breaches of the UN Charter. He reiterated Egypt's condemnation of using starvation as a weapon of collective punishment against the Palestinian people, warning that such actions create an extremely dangerous international environment that threatens global peace and stability, and requires urgent and serious international action to restore respect for the rule of law and immediately halt these violations.
He called for greater solidarity among countries of the Global South in the face of escalating challenges that threaten international peace and security. He emphasized that achieving a fairer and more stable global system begins with a full commitment to the principles of international law and the UN Charter, and a rejection of practices that impose will through force or undermine national sovereignty.
The foreign minister said that the current moment requires the Global South to unite in defense of shared rights and interests, and to build a global order that respects national sovereignty and is based on justice, equality, and cooperation. (MENA}

Egypt affirms support for Somalia stability at AU Peace, Security Council session - Foreign Affairs
Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's firm support for Somalia's security, stability, unity, and territorial integrity, praising the Somali government's efforts to enhance governance and strengthen state institutions. FM Abdelatty made these remarks during a virtual session of the African Union Peace and Security Council, held at the ministerial level to follow up on developments in Somalia. The session tackled updates regarding the transition process from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM). During the session, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's solidarity with the Somali government and people, aiming to bolster the capacities of Somalia's national institutions and facilitate the gradual handover of security responsibilities to Somali security forces. He also expressed Egypt's concern over the ongoing security challenges posed by terrorist groups, foremost among which is Al-Shabaab. Moreover, FM Abdelatty emphasized the importance of ensuring a smooth and coordinated transition from ATMIS to AUSSOM to preserve the security gains achieved and prevent the exploitation of security gaps. He further asserted the need to provide sustainable funding for AUSSOM to enable it to fulfil its mandate efficiently, warning that the lack of funding would undermine the mission's ability to perform its duties. This, in turn, would negatively impact the entire Horn of Africa region and the international community, including disrupting global maritime trade and increasing terrorist threats, Abdelatty noted. "Egypt is committed to supporting Somalia, both bilaterally and multilaterally, through capacity-building programmes, personnel training, supporting security and civilian institutions, and humanitarian assistance," he concluded. Similarly, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly addressed Somalia's security challenges during his speech at the AUSSOM summit hosted by Entebbe, Uganda, last April. "The international community's shifting of priorities in 2024 allowed the Al-Shabaab militant group to regain strength and undermined hard-won gains made by the Somali National Army in 2022 and 2023," Madbouly said during the summit. Madbouly, participating in the event on behalf of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, reiterated Egypt's unwavering support for Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's vision of establishing a unified and prosperous state. He stressed the importance of providing Somalia with the necessary resources under AUSSOM to empower the Somali National Army to safeguard its substantial gains on the ground. According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, both ministers reaffirmed their shared commitment to advancing all aspects of bilateral relations and elevating cooperation to new levels, in line with the strong strategic ties between Egypt and France. During the call, Minister Abdelatty briefed his French counterpart on the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, including Egypt's efforts to revive and sustain the ceasefire, ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, and stabilize the situation. Iran says remains committed to nuclear non-proliferation treaty - Region
Iran on Thursday reaffirmed its commitment to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) while accusing Germany of 'malice' over its criticism of Tehran's decision to suspend cooperation with the United Nations nuclear watchdog. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi wrote on X that 'Iran remains committed to the NPT and its Safeguards Agreement,' dismissing reports of a full suspension as 'fake news.' He added that under a new law approved by parliament, Iran's cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will now be overseen by the Supreme National Security Council, citing heightened security concerns following Israeli and U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities. On Wednesday, Iran officially suspended its cooperation with the IAEA, citing the agency's failure to condemn Israeli and U.S. strikes on its nuclear sites. Araghchi accused Germany of supporting these attacks, responding to a German foreign office statement criticizing Tehran's move. He said: 'The explicit German support for the bombing of Iran has obliterated the notion that the German regime harbours anything but malice towards Iranians.' Fake news. Araghchi also condemned Germany's 'explicit support for Israel's unlawful attack on Iran' on June 13, which killed top Iranian military commanders and nuclear scientists. His comment drew criticism from opposition figures and rights groups, who accused him of minimising civilian suffering and endorsing breaches of international law.
