Capitals will look to regain rhythm against a lacklustre Sunrisers

The Hindu04-05-2025
Having entered the season as one of the title favourites, failure on all fronts has reduced Sunrisers Hyderabad to an also-ran in IPL 2025.
While some convoluted mathematics keep the side in contention for the playoffs, Sunrisers have long lost control over their destiny coming into the clash with Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium here on Monday.
When these two teams met in Visakhapatnam at the end of March, Mitchell Starc wreaked havoc. Sunrisers were four wickets down inside the PowerPlay and were staring at an embarrassingly low score until Aniket Verma announced his arrival with an exquisite knock (74, 41b, 5x4, 6x6), which, in the end, went in vain.
SRH breached the 200-run mark six times last season, but this time, it has done so just twice (vs Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings). Its 300-run ambitions have been reduced to dust. With a bowling unit that has largely lacked zing, the team has folded without much of a fight more often than not.
Capitals, too, have seen their form stutter in recent weeks. Having won their first four matches and topping the table then, they have won just two of the last six games, one via a Super Over. DC will look to regain rhythm heading into the season's business end.
Axar Patel has seemingly recovered from the injury he picked up against the Kolkata Knight Riders a few days ago. His return to full fitness will boost the side heading into this must-win contest.

'6 balls, 6 different actions': Ishan Kishan imitates MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh and Shane Warne in 1 over

Ishan Kishan NEW DELHI: Ishan Kishan seems to be thoroughly enjoying his County Championship stint with Nottinghamshire. In his two outings with the bat so far, the left-hander has looked in sublime touch, scoring 87 against Yorkshire and following it up with another impressive knock of 77 against Somerset. But it wasn't just his batting that caught everyone's attention. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! The 26-year-old wicketkeeper-batter surprised many when he handed over the gloves and took up bowling duties — a move that drew comparisons to a memorable moment from 2014, when MS Dhoni briefly stepped away from wicketkeeping during a Test against New Zealand. During a rain-affected, drawn match against Somerset at Taunton, Kishan showcased a rarely seen side of his game. On Wednesday, in an unexpected turn, he was handed the ball and made full use of the opportunity. In his over, Kishan experimented with a mix of off-spin and leg-spin, even switching to bowling around the wicket. He opened the over mimicking Harbhajan Singh 's bowling action and later imitated the legendary Shane Warne while delivering a leg-spinner — much to the amusement of teammates and fans. A clip of the moment was shared by the official County Championship social media handle. Kishan last played a Test for India during the tour of the West Indies in July 2023. In the IPL 2025 season with Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kishan scored 354 runs in 14 games. For real-time updates, scores, and highlights, follow our live coverage of the India vs England Test match here . Shubman Gill's England Tour began during IPL: Training with Dukes in Ahmedabad

India captain Shubman Gill scored a statement double century in the ongoing second Test match against England. Batting first in Birmingham, Shubman guided India to a massive total of 587 runs with his terrific 269-run knock. Speaking after the game, Shubman revealed that he had been training for the England Test series since the Indian Premier has had a sensational start to his tour of England, hitting a century in Leeds and then following it up with a double century in Birmingham. He said that he worked on his technique at the end of the IPL 2025, but had started training with the red ball much earlier than prepare for the Test series, Shubman batted in the Ahmedabad nets against the Dukes ball, which is used in England for Test matches. The new India No. 4 revealed that it was difficult for him to shift between T20 and Test cricket and that he had to work on his mindset before coming into this tour. "It's easy to go from T20 to T20, but coming back from T20 to Tests is a bit difficult because you have been practising one way with your team and your instincts are tuned to that," Shubman Gill told the broadcaster on Day Two of the second Test match."Controlling that and repeatedly telling your mind and body to adapt is challenging. That's why I started training for Tests during the IPL itself. That's when I began preparing my mind and body," he added."I was batting nicely but getting out after scoring 30 or 40 runs. So I wanted to enjoy my batting. I was focusing too hard, so I decided to make the most of it. I started working from the IPL itself," Gill Learning on the JobShubman might have hit 30 boundaries and 3 sixes in the first innings at Edgbaston, but he revealed that runs were not coming easily at the start of his innings. Gill said he had to constantly remind himself to be patient and stay at the wicket."In the last match, I was scoring more fluently, but here it wasn't coming as easily. Still, my mindset was that if the wicket is good and I am set, no matter how long I bat, I shouldn't leave the match halfway," Shubman added that he did not want to repeat his mistakes from the first Test match, where the Indian tail collapsed in both innings, forcing India to be bundled out for far fewer runs than they should have scored."In the last match, I learnt that no matter how long you've been batting, under these conditions, there can be a collapse in the lower order at any time. So I tried to stay out there as long as I could. I wanted the bowler to get me out with a good ball, and I shouldn't make mistakes. That was my approach," Gill 269 helped India post a massive first-innings total. The visiting side declared late on Day Two and managed to pick up three crucial wickets. The side will start Day Three with a lead of 510 runs and hope to take a dominant first-innings lead at Edgbaston.- EndsTune InMust Watch
