Vantage gains more power and aerodynamic upgrades
It's been a fun couple of weeks if you're into beautiful coupes with prestigious badges on the hood. A few days after Ferrari unveiled the Amalfi, Aston Martin has shown us the new Vantage S. This is a tauter, sharper, and more powerful version of the standard Vantage. The visual changes aren't dramatic, but they add just enough menace to what is one of the world's most arresting GTs. Here's a closer look at the new Vantage S.

This is now the most performance-focused version of the Vantage, with changes made to the engine, chassis, throttle pedal, and styling.

Outside, there is still a gaping grille, but the Vantage S gets new hood blades in a gloss black or 2×2 Twill Carbon Fiber finish. These help to extract hot air from the V8 engine.

Red detailing and available 21-inch wheels in satin black with a red finish further accentuate the coupe's sporty lines.

The Vantage S gets a new full-width decklid spoiler that boosts rear downforce by 97 pounds when the car is driving at its top speed of 202 mph.

Performance is exceptional. The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 now produces 670 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, resulting in a 0-60 mph time of just 3.3 seconds. Front-end feel and response have been improved, and more direct steering comes from the rear subframe being directly mounted to the body.

Subtle S badging can be found around the curvaceous body of the Vantage S.

'S' interior styling has given the already high-class Vantage cabin a further lift.

Embroidered 'S' logos are found on the sporty seats, while the legendary Aston Martin wings are stitched into the headrests. The infotainment suite should include Apple's new CarPlay Ultra – the new software has been rejected by many automakers, but Aston Martin became one of the first automakers to adopt it.

The steering wheel rim looks to be finished in a grippy suede. It includes paddle shifters for the transmission.

The dominant interior color is black, but it's lifted by red stitching dotted around the cabin and on the seats. Full or semi-aniline leather is available, too.

Pricing hasn't yet been announced, but the Vantage S – available as a coupe or roadster – is now available to order. Initial deliveries will begin in the final quarter of 2025.

Bentley's dog-friendly concept previews new electric urban SUV

Bentley is heading to an electric future, and this concept gives us our biggest clues yet what it will look like. The Bentley EXP 15 is a futuristic three-seat grand tourer concept that looks to the future while tipping its hat to the past. This is not a car you'll see on the road any time soon – or ever, in fact. Like all EXP models (EXP standing for Experimental Prototype) this one is a statement of intent, not a showroom model. But it's a bold and brilliant one, offering a taste of where Bentley is headed as it embarks on its journey into electrification with its all-electric urban SUV due to be unveiled next year. Inspired by the legendary 1930 Bentley Speed Six Gurney Nutting Coupe – better known as the 'Blue Train' – the EXP 15's proportions are unmistakably grand. There's a long 'endless' bonnet, a rearward-set cabin and a proud upright grille. It's every inch the grand tourer of Bentley lore, albeit wrapped in some very 21st-century tech and style. Just like the original Blue Train car that famously raced across France faster than the train it was named after, the EXP 15 has performance in its DNA – even if we don't yet know the numbers. It's imagined as a fully electric, all-wheel-drive machine, capable of covering big miles in silence and style, with a long range and fast charging. What you can see, though, is dramatic. The front grille remains large and iconic – despite not needing to feed air to a combustion engine – and now acts as a digital canvas lit up with intricate LED detailing. Slim lights frame it like jewellery, while a new 'prestigious shield' tailgate design and muscular rear haunches make for a powerful stance. Active aerodynamics, including deployable spoilers and a rear diffuser, show Bentley is serious about EV efficiency. Perhaps the most intriguing part of EXP 15 is the inside. Bentley's interior designers have let their imaginations off the leash and the result is a remarkable fusion of old-school craftsmanship and the very latest tech. The three-seat layout places the driver and a rear seat behind one another on one side, while the passenger gets a throne-like perch with a canopy that can wrap around them for privacy. Naturally, that seat swivels outwards to aid graceful exits. Then there's the tech. A huge dashboard spans the cabin, capable of switching from digital interface to beautiful wood veneer at the touch of a button. Nestled within is the so-called 'mechanical marvel' – a delightful centrepiece of moving illuminated fingers that's part art installation, part instrument cluster. It's Bentley's way of blending the physical and digital, and it works a treat. Even the boot gets in on the act – lift the rear hatch and you'll find not just storage but picnic seating, an ambient lamp and a fridge for chilled drinks. It's glamping, Bentley-style. Material choices are equally imaginative. A 100% wool textile by Fox Brothers – the firm behind thorn-proof cloth for centuries – features in a damson ombre finish, paired with 3D-printed titanium trim. A fine silk jacquard from Gainsborough Textiles – another British heritage brand – lines parts of the interior, while a new aluminium-based paint finish called pallas gold adds a liquid metal sheen to the bodywork. Cleverly, it's thin enough to let radar signals pass through it, making it future proof for autonomy, too. Bentley design boss Robin Page said 'the beauty of a concept car is not just to position our new design language, but to test where the market's going. It's clear that SUVs are a growing segment and we understand the GT market – through four generations of the Continental GT – but the trickiest segment is the sedan because it's changing. Some customers want a classic 'three-box' sedan shape, others a 'one-box' design, and others again something more elevated. So this was a chance for us to talk to people and get a feeling.' The exterior follows five design principles that will inform Bentley's future production cars: Upright Elegance, Iconic Grille, Endless Bonnet Line, Resting Beast stance, and Prestigious Shield. There's even a nod to thoroughbred horses in the car's silhouette – gently upright and poised like a champion ready to gallop. Inside, the guiding themes are just as poetic: Wing Gesture design for the dashboard; Bold Gravitas for generous surfaces and real materials; Cocooning Haven for comfort and privacy; Iconic Details like knurled switches and diamond patterns; and Magical Fusion – the blend of digital and mechanical that makes this interior so special. As ever with Bentley, it's not just about looking good – it's about feeling good. EXP 15 is designed to be thoughtful, intuitive and luxurious in equal measure. Whether it's adjusting to your mood, accommodating your pet or serving up a fridge-chilled drink from the boot, this concept has all bases covered. So no, you won't be able to buy the EXP 15 – but you will see bits of it again, especially in next year's Luxury Urban SUV, which will be the first reimagined production Bentley for the electric age.

Electric car grants are back! Cheapest, greenest EVs to be discounted by £3,750

Electric And only cars costing less than £37k will qualify. So you won't be funding next door's new Tesla… Skip 1 photos in the image carousel and continue reading The weekend rumours were true: the government has announced a new Electric Car Grant, which will see up to £3,750 knocked off the price of a new EV costing less than £37,000. But rather than a blanket discount, cars that qualify will be split into two bands: those with the lowest CO2 manufacturing footprint will get the full amount, but above a certain threshold the subsidy will be lowered to £1,500. Advertisement - Page continues below The Department for Transport hasn't, er, actually said what those thresholds are. Anyway. The ECG (not to be confused with an electrocardiogram) will be in place until the 2028/29 financial year, although if demand is strong enough the £650m pot could run dry before then. You might like Unlike the previous Plug-In Car Grant – which was killed off in 2022 – it's car manufacturers and not customers who will be in charge of applying for the new grant. Carmakers can apply from tomorrow (July 16), so you could start seeing lower prices within weeks. Or possibly even earlier than that if a manufacturer is really confident that its paperwork will be rubber stamped. Advertisement - Page continues below 'This EV grant will not only allow people to keep more of their hard-earned money – it'll help our automotive sector seize one of the biggest opportunities of the 21st century,' said Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander. 'And with over 82,000 public chargepoints now available across the UK, we've built the infrastructure families need to make the switch with confidence.' A cynic might suggest that if that last bit were true, the government wouldn't have announced more funding for home charging solutions just two days ago. Anyway, news of the Electric Car Grant has been pretty universally welcomed within the industry. Mikes Hawes, chief executive of the SMMT said the move is 'a clear signal to consumers that now is the time to switch', while Vicky Read, CEO of ChargeUK has called it 'brilliant news for drivers and for the UK's transition to electric vehicles'. And Adam Wood, MD at Renault UK, said: 'These incentives are extremely welcome, and a much-needed signal that government is ready to put tangible action behind the ambitious plans for the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) that it has outlined.' Will the money off tempt you to go electric, or are you staunchly sticking to ICE until the arctic has vanished?

EXCLUSIVE Coroner issues warning after father-of-two, 46, died when car skidded into dangerous ramped barrier during torrential rain

A 'doting' father-of-two was killed when his car aquaplaned in torrential rain and became airborne after hitting a ramped safety barrier before smashing into a concrete support pillar. Leigh Nardelli, 46, was driving a Mercedes AMG car on the A5 near Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, when it lost control and hit the central reservation. The car continued sliding until it was flung into the air by the ramped section of another safety barrier and launched into the air, eventually hitting a concrete post they were protecting. Mr Nardelli, a skateboarding industry executive, died at the scene after suffering multiple injuries. A coroner has now sent a Prevention of Future Deaths Notice to National Highways after it emerged the barrier had been identified as a major safety risk in 2022 – two years before the crash - but delayed replacing it for financial reasons. Dr Sean Cummings, the assistant coroner for Milton Keynes, wrote: 'This had been in place to protect the concrete support pillar of an overhead bridge. 'However, it is acutely ramped and allowed Mr Nardelli's vehicle to be projected up it, travel along the top before entering a wider space between the barriers on the south and northside. 'The vehicle then seems to have descended and 'flipped' becoming airborne and striking the concrete support causing fatal injuries. 'The barrier ramp, known as a 'P1 terminal' had been due for replacement to a safer bifurcated system [where a single barrier splits into two and run either side of an obstacle] in 2022 but for financial reasons was not. 'The hazard posed by the design of the P1 terminal was known by National Highways and it was due for replacement at the site of the collision in 2022. 'It presented and continues to present a significant risk and was not replaced for financial reasons. 'There is a gradual roll out programme across National Highways to replace P1 terminals with a safer bifurcated system but I consider the implications of the financial limitations represents an ongoing safety concern for vehicles approaching them on designated roads. 'In my opinion action should be taken to prevent future deaths and I believe you (and/or your organisation) have the power to take such action.' Dr Cummings concluded at an inquest in March that Mr Nardelli died as the result of a road traffic collision. The Chelsea fan, who was originally from London but lived in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, was driving his white Mercedes at speed on the 60mph road at 10.30am on July 6, 2024, when his car ran through a patch of pooled water and lost control. Crash investigation officers from Thames Valley Police had access to traumatic footage showing how the car hit the barrier, spun and crunched into the concrete bridge support. Mr Nardelli, who had worked since the late 1990s for Britain's largest skateboard distribution company, New Deal UK, left behind two sons, Eddie, 18, and Axel, five. A Gofundme page set up to help support them raised £12,670. The website said: 'Leigh was an amazing, doting father who provided everything for his sons. 'Losing him has left a huge hole in the lives of not only his close family and friends but everyone that knew him. 'Part of the money will go towards helping to pay for Eddie to carry on snowboarding, as he is currently competing and training with Snowboard England. 'He is also about to start to learn to drive and it would be great for him to be able to travel to training in the near future. 'Leigh was such a special person to so many. He was one of life's good ones and a truly amazing dad, brother, uncle, son and friend.' Eddie wrote on Instagram after the tragedy: 'We are all going to miss my dad because he was one of the best people to exist, whether it was dad, husband, brother, son - he was the perfect man at all of it. 'He truly was the perfect man and I think we all want to be as good as he was. I miss you dad.' National Highways has 56 days in which to respond to the coroner by setting out its proposed action. A spokesman said: 'Every death on our roads is one too many and our thoughts are with the family and friends of Leigh Nardelli following this tragic incident. 'We will consider the coroner's report and respond within the deadline.'
