#NSTviral: Video of 'gentle giant' elephant visiting village charms millions of Malaysians [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: A gentle giant has captured hearts across the country after a video showing a wild elephant calmly roaming through a village went viral, amassing over 2.5 million views on TikTok. The video, posted by Norizan Omar, shows the elephant leisurely strolling past homes, appearing completely at ease as it searches for food. Its quiet and unbothered demeanour has struck a chord with Malaysians, many of whom were moved by the peaceful coexistence between humans and wildlife. In the comments, Norizan said the elephant has become somewhat of a familiar presence in the area. "Yes, it does not bother anyone. It is only looking for bananas, coconuts and plants that it eats," she wrote. She also said the elephant is not aggressive as long as it is left alone. The heartwarming moments has brightened social media platforms, with netizens quickly flooding the post with affection and awe. "Back in the day, you had to go to the zoo to see an elephant. Now it just comes to your house," said one user. Another quipped that the presence of the elephant is like having a safari at your doorstep, where no ticket is required. One user, Helmi, added, "So lucky to see an elephant up close. I would have to travel far just to catch a glimpse at the zoo." The video has also served as a gentle reminder of the need to protect Malaysia's wildlife and natural habitats, where moments like these can continue to exist. A user poignantly noted that it was not the elephant's fault in roaming around as its natural habitat has been destroyed. "This is due to the actions of irresponsible humans who exploit the environment for their own needs without considering the animals that live there."

Sabahans shine at Dance World Cup
Tiara with her coach Arthur. KOTA KINABALU (July 6): Malaysia proudly celebrates a double silver medal victory at the Dance World Cup 2025 in Burgos, Spain – thanks to the remarkable performances of Tiara Izz Zayani and Ivana Iman binti Mohammad Ezral, two young dancers from Ballet By Nora, Kota Kinabalu. Ivana with her coach Nora. These talented young Malaysians earned second place in their respective solo categories, rising above thousands of international competitors and making their mark on the global stage. Tiara, known for her powerful and expressive interpretations of Malaysian traditional dance, brought the house down with her performance of 'Kreasi Zapin Galit'. Dancing through pain, she gave her all on stage: 'Tiara danced until her nails came off — but she never complained,' said her mother, Tuya, visibly emotional. 'She told me later, 'I just wanted to finish strong.' That's her strength — heart, discipline, and quiet courage.' Ivana, age 10, earned silver in the Mini Ballet Any Style Solo category. 'I felt nervous at first, but once I started dancing, I just imagined I was home. I'm so happy I could make everyone proud,' she said. Their teacher and mentor, Nora of Ballet By Nora, expressed her pride in both girls. 'This double silver is more than a medal. It's the result of years of discipline, late nights and unwavering commitment. I'm honoured to guide them. Tiara and Ivana have inspired all of us,'she said. Ivana's parents, Dr Natassia and Mohammad Ezral , added: 'We're humbled by Ivana's achievement. She danced with joy, and that joy brought her here. We're just so proud — and even more proud to share this celebration with Tiara and her family.' These two dancers stand as young ambassadors for Malaysia, showing the world the strength, artistry and cultural beauty that lives in Sabah. The Dance World Cup 2025 continues, with more Malaysian dancers taking the stage in the days ahead. Meanwhile, SK Muhibbahraya students from Tawau also put Sabah in the eyes of the world when they won third place in the same competition. The young dance duo — Muhd Syahmi Asyraf bin Sulaiman and Muhammad Ammar Asyraf bin Mohd Taufik — captivated judges and audiences with their energetic and disciplined Zapin performance titled 'Suara Siam. 'Their success is the result of dedicated coaching and mentorship by their teachers, Sarena Sanin (Senior Assistant for Student Affairs) and Basri Kambung (Senior Assistant for Co-curricular Activities). Upholding the school's motto, 'SK Muhibbahraya Unggul, Melangkah Jauh dari yang Biasa' (SK Muhibbahraya Excels, Moving Beyond the Ordinary), this team has proven that young talent from Sabah can not only compete but excel on the world stage. This achievement is a reflection of the vision of Tuan Haji Sapri bin Haji Raupu, headmaster of SK Muhibbahraya, Tawau, who has long aspired to see his students succeed internationally. Their accomplishment not only brings honour to the school and local community but also serves as an inspiration for students across the country to pursue their dreams with dedication and determination.

Gardenia's durian bun sparks frenzied hunt across Malaysia
A new durian-flavoured bun from Gardenia has Malaysians going absolutely bananas — or rather, durian — as people across the country scramble to get their hands on the elusive QuickBites snack. The limited-edition treat, part of Gardenia's iconic bread line has taken TikTok and X by storm, with many users documenting their hilarious 'missions' to track it down. TikTok user @bangbookay said he visited 10 different stores before finally getting his hands on the durian-flavoured bun. 'Finally, after so long!' he wrote in a post that quickly racked up thousands of views, with fellow fans flooding the comments to share their own snack-hunting struggles. Another user, @bosszhi318, took his search even further — asking the abang lori roti directly when the precious stock would be delivered. According to him, the bun only arrives twice a week: Thursdays and Sundays. Those lucky enough to score the snack say it's better than expected. 'The durian taste isn't too strong. It's creamy, like durian crepe,' commented @alomzie, who said she didn't regret stocking up. The durian variant isn't alone in sparking a hunt — Gardenia has also released a strawberry-flavoured Quick Bites, which some say is even harder to find. Fans are now calling it Malaysia's bread hunt of the year, proving once again that when it comes to food (especially fruity flavours), Malaysians never back down.
