'As we work to build a competent workforce and nurture talent through various initiatives, the EY YTPY programme not only reinforces this mission but also encourages participants to explore the rewarding career opportunities available in the field of tax.'
Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd (Malaysia) tax managing partner Farah Rosley said unlike conventional undergraduate programmes, the YTPY competition is a global initiative that inspires young talents to break free from the limitations of their academic environment, engage with real-world challenges and grow their network with business leaders and industry champions.
'This competition provides a unique platform for undergraduates to tackle genuine business issues while collaborating with industry leaders to address problems that span across borders and cultures.
'Such invaluable exposure equips our future workforce with the skills and insights needed to stand out in the competitive job market,' she said.
Ernst & Young Tax Consultants Sdn Bhd partner and YTPY (Malaysia) programme director Hisham Halim said the challenge offers students a unique platform to explore the pivotal role of taxation in shaping today's global economies, and to discover how they can create meaningful impact as future tax professionals.
'This prestigious competition encourages diverse perspectives and challenges participants to creatively analyse complex issues facing global businesses.
'With an international panel of judges assessing both innovation and practical skills, participants are required to integrate critical thinking, business acumen and technical tax knowledge to solve real-world challenges.
'We are confident that this year, Ooi will rise to the occasion and shine on the global stage,' he said.

Velvet Wire Bouquets Bloom Into Steady Income For Housewife
REGION - SOUTHERN > NEWS By Sarinah Mat Kasim SEREMBAN, July 13 (Bernama) -- What started as a hobby driven by a passion for art has now become a lucrative source of steady income for a housewife here, thanks to her creativity in crafting flowers from velvet wire. Siti Amirah Pilus, 36, said she first ventured into floral arrangement in 2014 by taking orders for wedding gifts before switching entirely to crafting with velvet wire over the past three years. bootstrap slideshow 'I started learning how to do velvet wire arrangements after being captivated by a tutorial on Instagram. I became interested, bought the wire, and tried it out. I saw that the results were quite good. 'It was quite difficult at first, but eventually it became easier once I got the rhythm and pattern down to make creations like flowers, keychains, decorations, and bouquets,' she told Bernama when met at her home here. The mother of four said that small velvet wire arrangements can be completed within five minutes, while larger ones like bouquets take up to two hours and that her creations are sold at prices ranging from RM3.50 to RM250 depending on the type and customer request. She said most customers usually order velvet bouquet arrangements and decorative flowers as gifts for convocation or retirement events, as they remain beautiful and do not wilt like real flowers, making them lasting keepsakes. 'Alhamdulillah, the response has been very encouraging. Every month I earn over RM1,500 from these arrangements, and once made up to RM8,000 when the product went viral on social media,' she said, adding that she runs the business from home. The Jempol native said she is one of the entrepreneurs guided by the Community Development Department (KEMAS), from which she received a one-off assistance of RM5,000 through the Quick Win Programme.

TRW Given Two Days To Settle Salary Arrears Of Players, Coaches
KOTA BHARU, July 13 (Bernama) -- Kelantan, The Real Warriors (TRW) have been given two days until Tuesday to resolve the issue of salary arrears of nearly 20 players and the team's coaches for last season. Former TRW head coach, Rezal Zambery Yahya said the decision was made after three settlement offers previously submitted by TRW management were considered biased and unprofessional. "The three offers included a half-salary cut every month, a payment between RM500 and RM1,000 for each match, or an instalment payment of RM200 per month until the debt is settled. bootstrap slideshow "For us, the offer does not make sense. We are not a water purifier that pays RM200 per month for 10 years. So we have put forward several counter-offers and given them until Tuesday to decide,' he said at a press conference here, today. Rezal also questioned TRW's action of continuing to pay the salaries of imported players to avoid transfer restrictions by the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA), while local players who train and play until the end of the season continue to be mistreated. He said several series of discussions had been held before but the TRW management was seen not serious about resolving the salary arrears since February to April. If TRW still fails to settle the arrears within the specified period, Rezal said an official complaint would be submitted to the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Status Committee for further action. Meanwhile, Rezal also revealed that KDN FC president Rozi Muhammad had still not settled his personal debt amounting to nearly hundreds of thousands of ringgit which was used to assist the club's management last season, including paying players' salaries. 'When the team was facing financial problems, I was looking for money to help the team. "Now people are chasing me to pay the loan. I urge him to take responsibility for settling the debt which has been outstanding since September last year," he said.

200,000 to be freed from bankruptcy, says Azalina
SHAH ALAM: The government is targeting 200,000 individuals for discharge from bankruptcy by the year-end. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said (pic), who disclosed this, said about 186,000 have been discharged so far. She said the data was obtained by the Insolvency Department for the government to lend a helping hand to the affected group. 'We hope by the end of the year, we can tabulate (people released from bankruptcy status). In total, we hope to hit 200,000 this year,' she said after launching a Financial Literacy Programme for public and private higher education institution students organised by the department here yesterday, Bernama reported. In tabling Budget 2025, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the Second Chance Policy would be expanded to benefit those aged 40 and below who have debts not exceeding RM200,000 starting last year. Azalina said a total of 25,578 bankruptcy cases were recorded from 2021 to May 2025, with 10,145 cases involving the 35 to 44 age group. She said men recorded higher bankruptcy cases than women, at 18,590 over that period. On the programme, Azalina said it was among the proactive steps taken by the government to update the people with financial management and literacy, especially students about to begin their careers. About 1,000 students from public and private universities and colleges were involved in the day-long programme.
