Cardi B Named ‘Voice Of The Culture' At 2025 ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards
The Voice of the Culture Award is presented to Cardi B, set aside for those who've had a massive influence on music and culture. Past recipients of the award include Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, D-Nice and T.I. When the Bronx-bred emcee took the stage, she was overjoyed and gracious.
'My voice has always been a reflection of what I live and what I'm living, which I feel is a true reflection of the people, the culture, my friends, my family, and the environment that I grew up in,' gushed the Grammy-winning rapper. 'I like to put that in my music— my joys, my pains, my drama, everything.'
She continued, 'I hate the idea that if you don't write every line on your own, it makes what you have to say not real. Music is a collaboration, it has always been. The biggest hits [and] the greatest records come from teamwork. They come from sharing experiences, energy, pain and joy. It's not about ego, it's about impact. I write, I co-write, I rewrite. I speak to what's true to me. My pen, my mind and my feelings are in every verse and in every hook. I respect every writer who brings their magic to the table. This award is not just for me, it's for the culture.'
Cardi's hit, 'Enough (Miami)' also snagged an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award. The rapper made history back in 2020 as the first woman to receive the esteemed ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year Award for two consecutive years. Kendrick Lamar and Mustard's 'Not Like Us' was named ASCAP R&B/Hip-Hop and Rap Song of the Year while songwriter OZ was given the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Songwriter of the Year honor, for contributing to hits like Drake and J. Cole's 'First Person Shooter,' Jack Harlow's 'Lovin On Me,' and Travis Scott's 'I Know?'
Cece Winans' 'That's My King,' was named ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Gospel Song of the Year, and Sony Music Publishing took home the coveted honor of ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Publisher of the Year.

WWE Star Pitches Tag Team Title Run With Major Celebrity
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. With multi-platinum rapper Cardi B set to host SummerSlam this weekend, WWE superstar Chelsea Green has a big idea for the Grammy-winning artist. In a new interview, Green pitched the idea of them forming a tag team to challenge for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships. Speaking with Josh Martinez of Z100 on the Superstar Crossover podcast, Green made her case for the dream team. She stated that the two of them together would be an unstoppable force. Chelsea G and Cardi B? In her typical, confident fashion, Chelsea Green claimed that the SummerSlam host is already a massive fan of hers. She used this as the basis for her pitch to team up and go after the current tag team champions, Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez. "I know she's a fan girl of me. She absolutely loves me, so maybe she should hop on over, and we should tag team," Green said. "I feel like maybe Chelsea G and Cardi B versus... I mean, really, anyone, but I definitely want to go for the champs, the tag champs." A Perfect Character Pitch The comments are a perfect extension of Chelsea Green's on-screen character. Since returning to WWE, she has portrayed an entitled, "Karen"-like persona who constantly complains to management and believes she is the biggest star in the women's division, despite her mixed win-loss record. Her belief that a global superstar like Cardi B "absolutely loves" her and should team with her is a delusional but hilarious example of her character's inflated ego. LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - OCTOBER 11: A WWE logo is shown on a screen before a WWE news conference at T-Mobile Arena on October 11, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was announced that WWE wrestler Braun Strowman will face heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury and WWE champion Brock Lesnar will take on former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez at the WWE's Crown Jewel event at Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on October 31. More Green previously found success with this persona when she teamed with Sonya Deville and later Piper Niven to win the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship. More news: WWE Superstar Announces Retirement Match A History of Celebrity Tag Matches While Green's pitch is in-character, it is not outside the realm of possibility for WWE. The company has a long and successful history of featuring celebrities in matches at their biggest events. From Mr. T teaming with Hulk Hogan in the main event of the first WrestleMania to Bad Bunny's universally acclaimed performance at WrestleMania 37, celebrity involvement is a cornerstone of WWE's entertainment strategy. This year's SummerSlam will even feature a massive celebrity tag team match, as the musician Jelly Roll will team with Randy Orton to face Drew McIntyre and Logan Paul. Cardi B, who is a well-known and vocal fan of professional wrestling, would be a perfect candidate to follow in their footsteps. Her social media interactions with various superstars over the years have shown she has a genuine passion for the business, which is a key ingredient for a successful celebrity crossover. While a match is unlikely to happen this weekend, fans will be watching Cardi B's hosting duties very closely. More WWE News: For more on WWE, head to Newsweek Sports.

Cardi B Sued Over Viral Vegas ‘Mic-Throwing' Incident, Bardi's Attorney Calls Assault Case An ‘Opportunity To Make Money'
It might be time for Cardi B to pull out her courtroom Bardi bob once again as she faces a lawsuit from a woman claiming she was struck in the viral microphone-throwing incident during a Las Vegas performance in 2023. Source: Stephane Cardinale – Corbis / Getty If you need to refresh your memory, the moment was all over the internet a few years back. Cardi rocked the stage at Drais' Beachclub nearly two years ago and she had the crowd going wild… a little too wild. She was hotter than the Vegas sun as she rapped the breakout hit, 'Bodak Yellow.' As BOSSIP previously reported, when the Am I The Drama? diva approached the crowd, a woman in the audience decided to cool her off with a cup of water. The anonymous woman wasn't the only one. Earlier in the show, the 'W.A.P.' rapper asked fans to help her beat the triple-digit heat by splashing her onstage. Cardi continued to perform, and several songs later, the anonymous woman decided to keep the cold water flowing. Once the drink hit Cardi's face, she hurled her microphone back into the crowd in a split-second reaction. The unnamed woman claims the microphone hit her and now she's suing for assault, battery, and negligence. She also claimed that the charity auction of the mic, which sold for $99,000, 'exacerbated [her] emotional distress,' TMZ reports. After the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department investigated the incident, they declined to charge the Grammy winner in August 2023. According to Complex, the police report didn't come from the drink thrower, but another woman accidentally hit when the airborne audio equipment ricocheted off the alleged drink thrower. Check out Cardi B's side of the story after the flip! In an interview on The Breakfast Club , Cardi explained the water, the mic, and why she singled out one fan. When Charlamagne asked if Cardi regretted taking aim at one of her fans, she said, 'It was really like a quick reaction.' During one part of the set, she welcomed some waterworks because 'the Vegas heat ain't no joke,' but those fans understood the assignment. 'It was hotter than a motherf**ker! So, there was a part of the show that I told people, 'Splash me!' But even then I told them, 'Be careful with the face because the face is beat, b***h!'' she explained. When the moment passed, Cardi expected the rest of the show to go as planned. However, she said the anonymous women tried to get in on the action 'four songs' or about '15 to 20 minutes' after she was over the splashing. She noted that the woman 'threw water and ice on my face!' At that point, Cardi said she just 'automatically reacted' and didn't 'even know that I was throwing it.' The 'Enough' star clarified that the ice shocked her, but the reaction came from the drink hitting her in the face. She asked how ten other people could splash only her body, but this one attendee got her directly in the face, against her wishes. When Cardi reviewed the video, she said it confirmed to her that the woman 'intended to throw that s**t in my face.' Welp, Cardi claimed it was a reflex in self-defense. And her attorney calls this latest lawsuit a money grab. 'The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County District Attorney's Office closed this matter for insufficient evidence a long time ago, but apparently the opportunity to try to make money off of a celebrity was too much for some willing law firm to pass up,' attorney Drew Findling said. Cardi B Gave Polka Dot Nails a High-Fashion Spin
All products featured on Allure are independently selected by Allure editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, Condé Nast may earn an affiliate commission. Getty Images If I had to choose one defining print of summer 2025, it would totally be the polka dot. Polka dots are everywhere this season—on slip dresses, bikinis, capri pants, silk scarves, and now, Cardi B's nails. Cardi is the latest celeb to give the polka dot manicure a whirl, though the Am I the Drama? rapper added a special, high-fashion twist to her black-and-white set. Cardi's nails, which she showed off in a quick Instagram Story over the July 4 weekend, were a long almond shape with a black base and oversized white polka dots painted all over each nail from base to tip; there were about seven dots per nail. Most of her fingers stuck to this simple, classic black-and-white polka dot motif, but if you look closely at her pointer finger, you'll see the fashion girl shoutout: a teeny tiny Chanel logo nestled in the center of the middle dot. The instantly recognizable interlocking Cs are small and subtle enough that you might miss them at first glance, but this little detail truly adds so much to the mani. Cardi worked with manicurist Coca Michelle on the Chanel-inspired set, and the timing couldn't be better; she was in Paris and is currently attending Couture Fashion Week, so her nails definitely fit the vibe. (ICYMI, SZA recently added the Gucci logo print to her nails!) The polka dot manicure has been embraced by some of our fave nail trendsetters this summer, Cardi included. Sabrina Carpenter has been wearing it nonstop since the release of her latest single 'Manchild' and even added rhinestones to one set. Hailey Bieber is also a fan, teasing a new Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment with a lemon yellow dot mani to match. While celebs have pros on hand to craft their manis, you could easily create your own dotted design with a steady hand and dotting tool. There's still plenty of summer left to enjoy and plenty of time to connect—or in this case, paint!—the dots.
