Popular mid-range Pixel model will receive an important battery update on July 8th
The Pixel 6a needs a battery update because. without one, there is a good chance that the cell on some Pixel 6a units will overheat. Google said last month that only a subset of Pixel 6a units will need the update, which will lower the capacity of the Pixel 6a 's battery, and reduce its charging performance after 400 charge cycles.
When the Pixel 4a battery was recently impaired by time, Google offered users a free battery replacement, $50 payments, or a $50 discount code from the Google Store to use toward the price of any replacement device available from the online Google Store. Google called all of this the "Pixel 4a Battery Performance Program."
Like it did with the Pixel 4a, you can now see if your Pixel 6a qualifies for the Pixel 6a Battery Performance Program. Simply tap on this link and follow the directions on the screen. We first told you about this update last month and now we know exactly when the update will arrive. Google announced yesterday that the battery update for the Pixel 6a is coming July 8th, next Tuesday. Now that we know the date when it will arrive, you should know that all Pixel 6a models will receive this mandatory update.
However, those with impacted Pixel 6a models will be eligible to receive a free battery replacement at no cost, a cash payment, or a hardware discount from the Google Play Store. Google will let you know if your device qualifies as an "impacted" model. "Impacted" models will also receive a notification from Google when they have completed 375 charging cycles.
As we pointed out earlier in this article, Google cleared all of the factory images from the Pixel 6a stable and beta release pages. The Pixel 6a was also removed from the OTA files page. The only thing left for the Pixel 6a is a "Coming soon" notice on the factory images page explaining that a special battery update for the model will be coming soon.
Just in time, starting July 21st, Google is debuting walk-in battery replacements in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Singapore, Japan, and India. There will be mail-in repair available in the U.S. and India. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!

Warning: Thanks to AI you must use "phishing-resistant" passkeys to replace vulnerable passwords
Google and Microsoft have been warning users to stop using passwords to protect their accounts and use passkeys instead. What's a passkey, you ask? It is a digital credential that allows you entry into an app or website without typing in a username and password. Instead, you use the same methods that you employ to unlock your device. For example, with a passkey you might use: Biometrics: Fingerprint or facial recognition. Examples include Face ID, Touch ID, Android Fingerprint/Face Unlock, and Windows Hello. PIN/Pattern: This would use the same method you use to unlock your phone with a PIN code or a pattern. Leading American identity and access management (IAM) company Okta says that it has seen threat actors use vO, an AI tool, to develop phishing sites that impersonate legitimate sign-in web pages. Okta says that threat actors are now able to use AI to create a "functional phishing site" from a simple text prompt. "Vercel's is an AI-powered tool that allows users to create web interfaces using natural language prompts. Okta has observed this technology being used to build replicas of the legitimate sign-in pages of multiple brands, including an Okta customer." -Okta Okta Threat Intelligence watched in real time as threat actors used the Vercel platform to host multiple phishing sites that pretended to be legitimate websites for well-known brands such as Microsoft 365 and some cryptocurrency firms. Using AI to create these bogus websites means that the old red flags, such as spelling and grammatical mistakes, can no longer be used to warn you of a phishing attack. Even two-factor authentication (2FA) can't be counted on to protect you. The best defense is to add passkeys to any account where it is an option and, if possible, eliminate the use of passwords for those accounts that allow you to do so. If you must use a password on an account, make it unique, long, and back it up with non-SMS 2FA. Secure your connection now at a bargain price! Google Messages profiles could be close to receiving a Material 3 Expressive face lift
Google has been adding a dash of the Material 3 Expressive design to several apps as part of the Android 16 QPR1 beta program. These changes will presumably reach stable Android 16 Pixel users when the next Pixel Feature Drop occurs in September. The latest Material 3 Expressive sighting shows that Google is preparing to make some Material 3 Expressive design changes to the Google Messages profile page. Found in Google Messages v20250701 beta is code that brings Material 3 Expressive to the buttons on the profile page. The buttons under the person's phone number on the profile page are changed from circles to pill or lozenge-shaped. These buttons will be highlighted and also change their shape and get wider when you press on them. When your finger is removed from the buttons, they revert back to their original size and shape. While the code was discovered in the latest Google Messages release, it is not available yet for users even those who are Google Messages beta users. Even though my Pixel 6 Pro is running the correct version of Google Messages, it is not showing the new feature as I write this. By the way, my Pixel 6 Pro is running Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2.1. The buttons getting the Material 3 face lift are Call, Video, Contact Info, and Search. Current Messages Profile page and the one Google is reportedly working on using Material 3 Expressive. | Image credit-Android Authority Word to the wise. Just because Google has embedded this code inside the Google Messages app, it doesn't mean that the changes mentioned in this article will definitely be coming to Google Messages. However, it does indicate that Google has been working on such a feature. This might not be a game changer for Android users, but does fit within the Material 3 Expressive philosophy which is to make digital products like smartphones feel like an extension of the user This is accomplished by using the visual design and interaction of Material 3 Expressive. At the same time, this design language should deliver wonderful experiences to users. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!
