Fraud targeting artists busted in Tirumala
Sutrapu Abhishek, a resident of Kazipet in Warangal district, was arrested by Tirumala One Town Police late on Tuesday, and Rs.14 lakh in cash was seized from him.
Abhishek is accused of running two cultural organisations, Annamacharya Arts Academy and Annamayya Sahithi Kala Vikasa Parishad, through which he collected money from over 2,900 artists belonging to 93 art troupes from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
He promised them an opportunity to perform in a two-day dance programme titled 'Srinivasa Kalaarchana' at the prestigious Asthana Mandapam in Tirumala, falsely claiming that the event was authorised by TTD and Hindu Dharma Prachar Parishad (HDPP).
Police said the accused charged participants between Rs.2,000 and Rs.5,000, promising arrangements such as accommodation, darshan of Lord Venkateswara, prasadam, and mementos.
Participation letters, ID cards, and time slots were issued to the artists, giving the impression of official sanction.
Although Abhishek had initially secured limited permission from HDPP, TTD cancelled the approval after receiving complaints about money collection. He then approached the High Court, which directed TTD to conduct a Vigilance probe and allowed 1,200 artists to perform on June 27 and 28.
The situation turned chaotic when over 2,000 artists arrived at the venue, far exceeding the permitted number. With only 600 allowed per day, many were denied entry, leading to protests and confusion. Following inquiries, police confirmed that the entire operation was unauthorised and fraudulent.
Abhishek was taken into custody and produced before the Tirupati court on Wednesday.

BJP worker murder case: NIA arrests absconder on arrival from Qatar
Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough in its continuing investigation into the targeted killing of BJP Yuva Morcha member Praveen Kumar Nettaru by cadres of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI), the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday arrested a key accused, who had been absconding for the last two years. An official statement mentioned stated that Abdul Rahaman was taken into custody by an NIA team at the Kannur International Airport in Kerala on his arrival from Qatar. A total of four accused, including Abdul Rahaman and two other absconders, were chargesheeted by NIA in this case in April this year, taking the total chargesheeted in the case to 28, the NIA stated. NIA had also declared rewards for information relating to six absconders. Abdul Rahaman was carrying a reward of Rs 4 Lakh for this arrest. NIA investigations had revealed that Abdul Rahaman had, on the directions of PFI leadership, voluntarily harboured the main assailants and others involved in the case. He had fled to Qatar after the attackers were arrested, the NIA said. Praveen Nettaru was brutally killed with sharp weapons by PFI cadres/members on July 26, 2022 in Bellare village of Sullia Taluk in Mangaluru District. The killing was part of a larger conspiracy aimed at striking terror among the people and unleashing communal hatred and unrest in the society, the NIA stated. The NIA, which had re-registered the case on August 4, 2022, is trying to track down the remaining absconder, the statement said. The murder of Praveen Nettaru resulted in communal strife for a prolonged time in the coastal region of Karnataka. Praveen's murder resulted in a series of cases of revenge killings and stab incidents in the Mangaluru region. Mohammad Fazil was killed by Hindu activist Suhas Shetty gang to avenge the killing of Praveen Nettaru. Suhas Shetty was hacked to death recently to avenge the death of Fazil. To avenge the death of Suhas Shetty, a gang had killed Imtiyaz, a pick-up driver and the secretary of a local mosque.

Delhi man claims he was stabbed and robbed of Rs 13 lakh, arrested for cover-up
A robbery case that initially appeared to be a brazen daylight heist took an unexpected turn when the Delhi Police discovered that it was a meticulously staged act, allegedly orchestrated by the complainant himself. The accused and his associate were arrested, and the entire stolen amount of Rs 13 lakh was recovered, the police said on Friday. The incident was reported on Thursday when a call was received about a robbery involving a substantial sum of money, the police said. The complainant, Subhash Chand, 22, who works as an accountant at a trading company, claimed that he had withdrawn Rs 13 lakh from a bank and was subsequently robbed on a flyover by six unidentified men on three motorcycles. He alleged that the assailants stabbed him and fled with the cash. 'During the investigation, CCTV cameras were analysed, but no suspicious bikes were seen chasing the inquiry revealed that the complainant's injuries appeared superficial and inconsistent with being caused by a knife. Upon sustained interrogation, Chand broke down and confessed to the crime,' Sukant S Ballabh, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, said. Chand allegedly admitted that he had planned the staged robbery with his friend Vijaypal, 26. According to the police, Chand, who has been employed at the trading company for two years, was reportedly under immense financial pressure after losing Rs 30 lakh in gambling. In a desperate bid to recover his losses and repay the borrowed stake money, he allegedly concocted the plan to embezzle Rs 13 lakh from the company and cover it up as a robbery. According to his alleged confession, Chand withdrew the cash from the bank and handed it over to Vijaypal at Rajouri Garden Metro Station. Vijaypal then escaped using a Rapido bike service, reached Dhaula Kuan, and took a bus to his native village, the police said.
