Uttar Pradesh cabinet approves 1% discount in stamp duty on property purchased in name of women

LUCKNOW : The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Tuesday approved a one per cent discount in stamp duty on property worth up to Rs one crore if it is purchased in the name of a woman. A decision in this regard was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at Lok Bhavan in Lucknow, the UP government said in a statement, and added that a total of 37 proposals were passed in the meeting. Till now, this exemption was applicable only on property up to Rs 10 lakh in the state, in which a maximum discount of Rs 10,000 was available. But now the government has increased this exemption to property up to Rs one crore. Giving information about the decision, UP's Labour Minister Anil Rajbhar said that the government believes this decision will help middle class women become property owners, which will not only increase their confidence but they will also become financially more capable and respected in the society. This exemption will also strengthen the Mission Shakti programme, under which women are being made self-reliant and empowered, he said. In Budget 2024, the central government had also talked about reducing the stamp duty on deeds executed in favour of women. This decision of the Uttar Pradesh government is being considered as a step in the same direction. There is a possibility of a huge increase in the registration of property in the name of women, the statement said. The UP Cabinet also approved the proposal to give 10 hectares of land free of cost on an annual lease rent of Re one in favour of IR Detection Technology Centre proposed by IRDE (Instruments Research and Development Establishment), DRDO. This centre will be set up in the Lucknow node of Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor. Under this project, about 150 engineers and technical personnel are likely to get direct employment and more than 500 people are likely to get indirect employment. IRDE, Dehradun is a constituent laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). This institute is starting a new project to establish an indigenous fab-line for the development and manufacture of IR detectors. This project proposes to set up a semiconductor IR detector manufacturing facility. This will put India in the category of leading countries, the Uttar Pradesh government said in the statement.

Cochin Shipyard Limited backed startups set for DRDO projects

KOCHI: Artificial Intelligence solutions for port operations, Naval UAVs, under water navigation and diver communication system, and load assisted rotary stabilising system. These are among a range of technological innovations — developed by startups — that are being considered for Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) projects. The maritime solutions attracted visitors at Ushus Sangamam, an exhibition of innovations developed by startups Cochin Shipyard had incubated in association with IIT Madras and IIM Kozhikode. The shipyard's Dolphin Club hosted the event on Monday. Cochin Shipyard has earmarked a corpus of `50 crore for the USHUS programme, with Rs 6.9 crore already invested in 16 startups, generating over 70 high-skilled employment opportunities for young professionals. 'In India, there is no dedicated startup funding scheme for the maritime space,' Cochin Shipyard chairman Madhu S Nair told TNIE. 'These innovations are not restricted to ship building or ship repair, which is our forte. Many of these ideas are exciting and look very positive and strong. We are actually using some of these in the projects for DRDO and others,' he said. Cochin Shipyard is committed to funding and supporting deep-tech and innovative startups in the maritime sector, he said. 'We look forward to building long-term, sustainable partnerships with startups to develop a vibrant, self-sustaining innovation ecosystem,' Madhu said. Through seed funding, Cochin Shipyard provides Rs 50 lakh each to the startups to develop the technology and Rs 1 crore each for a pilot project scheme where they have to prove the technology. In the third stage, the shipyard gives a commitment and invests in the technology. 'We haven't yet made any investment but we are evaluating a few possibilities. We have covered 16 startups through seed funding and the pilot programme. It is a very clear affirmation that we aren't doing this for any brownie points, but with the belief this is the way forward. We are happy to support innovation and are ready to commit more money into the system,' Madhu said. The startup ecosystem in India is booming, with quite a lot of initiatives on the horizon.

ATAGS gun DRDO DRDO ATAGS update: In a significant development for India's defence sector needs, India's Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), in collaboration with private firms Bharat Forge and Tata Advanced Systems, has developed the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS)—a 155 mm/52-caliber howitzer capable of firing accurately up to approximately 48 km, enabling it to theoretically strike targets such as Lahore from Amritsar. Here are all the details you need to know about Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System and how it will help the Indian Army. Acquisition of 307 advanced towed artillery gun systems (ATAGS) approved In a significant milestone for India's defence sector, the CCS approved acquisition of Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) worth nearly Rs 7000 crore, marking a major step towards self-reliance in artillery gun manufacturing,' as per an official release quoted by ANI news agency. Can ATAGS hit Pakistan? ATAGS is the first indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured 155 mm artillery gun, which will enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian Armed Forces. Talking about its capability, the ATAGS (Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System) can attack from Amritsar to Lahore, as the distance between the two cities is about 50 kilometers. Why are advanced towed artillery gun system dangerous? The ATAGS is an advanced towed artillery gun system featuring a long 52-calibre barrel, allowing for extended firing ranges of up to 40 km. With its larger calibre, the system ensures higher lethality, delivering increased explosive payloads while enabling automated deployment, target engagement, and reduced crew fatigue. How will induction of ATAGS help India? The induction of ATAGS will play a crucial role in modernizing the Indian Army's artillery by replacing outdated 105 mm and 130 mm guns. Its deployment along the country's Western and Northern Borders will provide the armed forces with a significant strategic edge, ensuring enhanced operational readiness and firepower.
