Women's Big Bash League 11 schedule announced; Melbourne Renegades, Brisbane Heat to play opening fixture
Cricket Australia on Friday unveiled the 43-game, 35-day schedule for WBBL|11, which is set to begin from November 9 and culminate with the final scheduled on December 13.
The season is starting a fortnight later than usual this summer due to the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India later this year, which culminates on November 2.
Last season's runners-up, Brisbane, will be out for revenge when they host the reigning champions at Allan Border Field on the opening day of the tournament.
A showdown between fellow WBBL|10 finalists Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder will follow at the same venue, before the action will head west where the Scorchers will host Sydney Sixers at the redeveloped WACA Ground to cap off the day one triple-header.
Melbourne Stars will then host the Adelaide Strikers the following day at the CitiPower Centre, as all eight clubs begin their seasons in the opening two days. There will be no change to the structure of the finals series, which differs from the BBL.
The team that finishes on top of the table at the end of the regular season will still host the final on Saturday, December 13. The sides finishing third and fourth will meet in the Knockout on December 9, to be hosted by the third-ranked side.
The winner of that game will then travel to play the second-ranked qualifier in The Challenger on December 11 for a spot in the final.
'We're delighted with this action-packed schedule, which starts with a blockbuster triple-header and features the marquee matches our fans have come to love,' Cricket Australia's General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, Alistair Dobson, said.
'With the WBBL season ending as the BBL starts, the Big Bash Leagues are cemented as the heartbeat of summer, with cricket to feature almost every night from November 9 through until Sunday, January 25,' Dobson added. (ANI)

Karachi, July 28 (UNI) Pakistan sealed their spot in this year's ICC Women's Cricket World Cup with a perfect Qualifier campaign at home. With five wins from as many games, the hosts punched their ticket in the eight-team tournament. Coming on the back of a stellar campaign, lead spinner Sadia Iqbal believes Pakistan are ticking all the right boxes going into the tournament set to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka starting September 30. 'We had a good Qualifier campaign, the preparation was very good for it,' Iqbal was quoted in an interview with the PCB. 'We know that the competition is going to be tough at the World Cup, with all the big teams featuring in the tournament. We are preparing keeping that in mind with practice matches, variation, etc.' Iqbal was among the key contributors for Pakistan in the Qualifier campaign, snapping nine wickets during the tournament and finishing as their third-highest wicket-taker behind skipper Fatima Sana (13) and Nashra Sandhu (10). The 29-year-old tweaker continued her impressive run with the ball by reclaiming the No.1 spot in the ICC Women's T20I Bowling Rankings back in May, an ICC report said. Opening up on her individual feat, Iqbal said, 'This obviously depends on performances. The Rankings are determind based on performances. I try and give my 100 percent and everything else is a result of that." 'It's a big honour for me to become the No. 1 ranked bowler in the world while playing for Pakistan. It's always my desire to help lift the team to new heights with my performances," she said. 'I relish the added responsibility of the team relying more on me. Toor takes gold, Damneet impresses on day two of the Indian Open
National record holder and two-time Asian Games champion Tajinderpal Singh Toor expectedly took the shot put gold on the second and final day of the Indian Open athletics in Sangrur on Monday. Toor, one of the very few prominent names to turn up for the competition, managed a best throw of 19.51m in his fourth competition of the season. Toor, who is consistently battling injuries, is yet to cross 20m this season, his best being 19.74m at the National Games. In fact, he has not breached the mark since the 2024 Federation Cup in May, but was still good enough for the rest of the field. Also impressive was the 25-year-old Damneet Singh, winning the hammer throw with a personal best of 69.87m – just shy of the 2016 National record of 70.73m by Neeraj Kumar. Damneet, a silver medallist at the 2017 World under-18 championships and 2018 Asian under-20 championships, improved on his own previous best of 68.30m at the Federation Cup earlier this year. Mohd.
