Orlando Pirates star duo set for season-long loan deals

Orlando Pirates have cleared the path for midfielders Goodman Mosele and Azola Tshobeni to join Chippa United on season-long loans for the 2025/2026 Betway Premiership. The duo underwent medicals on Monday after arriving in Gqeberha, confirming their next step in pursuit of regular game time. Both players struggled to secure regular spots under head coach Jose Riveiro last season, as Pirates finished runners-up and made it to the CAF Champions League final. Riveiro opted to rely heavily on Makhehlene Makhaula, Thalente Mbatha, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Kabelo Dlamini in the heart of midfield. Mosele, who joined the Buccaneers from Baroka FC in 2021, failed to nail down a place in the starting XI. After being loaned out to Chippa United during the 2023/2024 campaign, he featured in 25 matches, scored once, and rediscovered his confidence. 'Mosele's impressive form saw him return to his parent club,' but despite this, he only made seven appearances last season, again scoring once. Meanwhile, Tshobeni has battled to make an impact at Pirates since rising through the club's development system in 2020. The left-footed playmaker spent three seasons on loan at JDR Stars, where he established himself as a consistent performer in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. 'He had a limited contribution on the pitch' after returning to Pirates, despite his growth during the loan spell. With head coach Sinethemba Badela focused on building a more competitive squad for the 2025/2026 season. Chippa United have moved swiftly to reinforce their midfield options. Mosele and Tshobeni will aim to bring stability, energy, and creativity to the Eastern Cape outfit. By securing this double loan deal, Chippa United offer both players a fresh chance to revive their top-flight careers and showcase their talent on a regular basis. Women's Big Bash League 11 schedule announced; Melbourne Renegades, Brisbane Heat to play opening fixture

New Delhi [India], July 11 (ANI): Melbourne Renegades and Brisbane Heat are set to kick off the Women Big Bash League (WBBL) 11 season with a rematch of last year's final, as the tournament gets underway with a blockbuster triple header across Brisbane and Perth, according to Cricket Australia website. Cricket Australia on Friday unveiled the 43-game, 35-day schedule for WBBL|11, which is set to begin from November 9 and culminate with the final scheduled on December 13. The season is starting a fortnight later than usual this summer due to the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India later this year, which culminates on November 2. Last season's runners-up, Brisbane, will be out for revenge when they host the reigning champions at Allan Border Field on the opening day of the tournament. A showdown between fellow WBBL|10 finalists Hobart Hurricanes and Sydney Thunder will follow at the same venue, before the action will head west where the Scorchers will host Sydney Sixers at the redeveloped WACA Ground to cap off the day one triple-header. Melbourne Stars will then host the Adelaide Strikers the following day at the CitiPower Centre, as all eight clubs begin their seasons in the opening two days. There will be no change to the structure of the finals series, which differs from the BBL. The team that finishes on top of the table at the end of the regular season will still host the final on Saturday, December 13. The sides finishing third and fourth will meet in the Knockout on December 9, to be hosted by the third-ranked side. The winner of that game will then travel to play the second-ranked qualifier in The Challenger on December 11 for a spot in the final. 'We're delighted with this action-packed schedule, which starts with a blockbuster triple-header and features the marquee matches our fans have come to love,' Cricket Australia's General Manager, Big Bash Leagues, Alistair Dobson, said. 'With the WBBL season ending as the BBL starts, the Big Bash Leagues are cemented as the heartbeat of summer, with cricket to feature almost every night from November 9 through until Sunday, January 25,' Dobson added. Morocco and Zambia 2-2 Draw in WAFCON 2025 Opening Match

Rabat – The 2025 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) kicked off tonight at the Rabat Olympic Stadium with a match between Morocco and Zambia that ended in a 2-2 draw. Zambia's Barbara Banda scored the first goal for her team in the first minute. Morocco soon responded in the 12th minute through a penalty, but Kundananji scored a second goal for Zambia in the 27th minute. Both sides celebrate flashes of strength and discipline. However, many criticized the slow defense of the Moroccan women's team, noting that the worst scenario a coach can face is conceding a goal in the opening seconds of the game. Ghizlan Chebbak created balance in the game after her stunning performance and equalizer in the last minutes before the end of the match. Morocco, the host country, is entering the tournament with ambitions after finishing as runners-up in the 2022 tournament. In that final, they lost narrowly to South Africa 2-1, but their impressive performance secured them a spot in the 2023 Women's World Cup. It also earned them respect on the continent and nationally. Zambia is committed to do its best throughout the competition, having finished third in 2022 after a hard-fought win over Nigeria in the bronze medal match. This year marks their fourth appearance in WAFCON. Tags: WAFCONWAFCON futsal

Ex Wrexham star Mark Howard on McElhenney and Reynolds

Phil Parkinson's men finished runners-up in League One last term to secure an historic third successive promotion and place in the second tier for the first time in 43 years. Wrexham begin the 2025-26 season against the Saints, relegated from the Premier League, at St Marys Stadium on Saturday August 9, with the game being shown live on Sky Sports with a 12.30 kick-off. Goalkeeper Howard, who was part of Wrexham's three promotion-winning squads, says it's the ideal match for the Reds and he has backed Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to maintain the feelgood factor in the Championship. 'It is the dream. They (Wrexham players) all want to test themselves against the best players and the best opposition,' said Howard, who arrived at The Racecourse from Carlisle United in the summer of 2022 and made 50 league appearances before being released at the end of last season. 'No better opportunity than the opening kick-off at 12.30pm against one of the teams that have come down from the Premier League. 'It really has been a Hollywood movie, every part of it over the last three years. "The back-to-back-to-back promotions have been incredible and the owners have brought along some very famous faces to the football club. MORE WREXHAM AFC NEWS Any Wrexham fixtures selected for live broadcast to be announced in coming days 'To say you've had a laugh in the dressing room with Will Ferrell and Channing Tatum is beyond belief really. 'The owners live and breathe it. They are with you for every win, every loss, and reach out to you after every game. 'They are fully invested in it in what the lads are doing as people and players. "You get that sense off them whether they're at a game or watching from America, Canada or wherever.'
