Bobby Deol and wife, Tanya, never once went out on a date during their fairytale love story. 'We met at parties'
has been blissfully married to Tanya since 1996. While his cinematic portfolio boasts a string of romantic blockbusters, the love story he shares off-screen with Tanya is nothing short of a real-life fairytale. Their tale began unexpectedly when Bobby first spotted Tanya at Trattoria, a well-known café in Mumbai, where she was with her brother and mutual friends. Bobby recognized someone in the group, leading to brief glances and casual meetings, but Tanya didn't pay much attention to him at first, admitting she didn't even bother greeting him since they were strangers.
Fate intervened again when the two crossed paths at actor
Chunky Panday
's Diwali bash. There, they ended up playing cards at the same table. Tanya recalled with a smile how Bobby kept losing to her yet refused to settle his losses with cash. Instead, he cheekily offered to take her out for dinner. Slightly amused and confused, Tanya shrugged it off. But Bobby, clearly smitten, decided to call her—at an absurd hour of the night. Tanya, half-asleep and unaware of who was on the line, simply told him she'd call back.
Curious the next day, Tanya asked all her friends if they had tried calling her, but none had. Bobby, who initially thought she was aloof, called again—this time during reasonable hours. That second call turned into a marathon conversation that lasted nearly eight hours. And that night, something shifted.
The two continued speaking over the next week, and Tanya soon found herself falling for the charming movie star. Interestingly, they never went on a formal date—just met at parties and events. One night, after dropping her home, Bobby surprised her by proposing marriage right at her doorstep. Tanya was taken aback but soon shared the news with her mother, since her father was out of town. Her mother and Bobby met shortly after, and within minutes, they connected like old friends.
At just 19, Tanya was introduced to Bobby's parents, veteran actor
Dharmendra
and his wife Prakash Kaur. Though nervous, she was welcomed with warmth, feeling instantly at home in their presence. Six months later, Bobby and Tanya tied the knot in a grand wedding attended by nearly 10,000 guests.
Reflecting on their story, Bobby once said in an interview, 'She's my everything. I chased her even when she paid me no attention. I just knew she would fall in love with me.'
Deol recently made headlines after opening up in an interview with
Instant Bollywood
about what he described as an unjust turn of events involving the 2007 romantic hit
Jab We Met
. According to the actor, he was the driving force behind the film's early development but was ultimately replaced by Shahid Kapoor without fair explanation.
'I put in a great deal of work to make that project happen,' Bobby said candidly. 'I reached out to several people and knocked on many doors to bring it together.' He claimed that he was instrumental in introducing the film's producers, Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, to the project. While the production house showed keen interest in collaborating with Bobby, they were initially reluctant to work with Imtiaz Ali, the film's then-relatively unknown director.
Bobby, however, saw promise in Imtiaz and took it upon himself to convince the producers to take a chance on the young filmmaker. 'I strongly believed in Imtiaz's vision and told them he deserved a shot,' he added.
His involvement didn't stop there. Bobby even played a part in casting, revealing that he had reached out to Kareena Kapoor Khan for the female lead, using a mutual contact. At first, Kareena was not inclined to accept the role. The team then approached Preity Zinta, who declined as well but mentioned she might be open to it at a later stage.
Despite his early efforts and deep investment in the project, Bobby was later cut from the film. The lead role he had hoped to play eventually went to Shahid Kapoor, and the film became a massive success—earning critical acclaim and becoming a cultural phenomenon.
While Bobby did not dwell on bitterness, his words reflected the disappointment of watching a film he nurtured from the ground up go ahead without him. His revelations shed new light on the behind-the-scenes story of Jab We Met—a film that, according to him, might have looked very different had things gone as originally planned.
On the professional front, Bobby Deol will soon appear in Alpha, starring
Alia Bhatt
and Sharvari Wagh, and in the Tamil political drama Jana Nayagan.

‘Ramayana: Part One' wraps shoot; first look of Ranbir Kapoor-starrer to be unveiled on THIS date
The filming of 'Ramayana: Part One', one of India's most ambitious cinematic projects, has officially come to an end. The upcoming mythological epic, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama and Sai Pallavi as Sita. The first official look at the film will be unveiled on July 3 in Mumbai at a grand IMAX event, described by the makers as a "landmark cinematic event". A video circulating on social media shows an emotional moment on set, where Ranbir Kapoor warmly hugs Ravi Dubey, who plays Lakshman in the film. The two, joined by cast and crew, also cut a cake to celebrate the wrap. Ranbir and Tiwari gave heartfelt speeches to mark the milestone, although the audio of the clip was unclear. Ranbir Kapoor reportedly left for a vacation with wife Alia Bhatt and mother Neetu Kapoor shortly after filming concluded, and is expected to miss Thursday's unveiling event in Mumbai. 'Ramayana' will be released in two parts, with Part One slated to hit cinemas during Diwali 2026, followed by Part Two in Diwali 2027. The film is being produced by Namit Malhotra under the banner of Prime Focus Studios, known for their work on several high-end VFX-driven projects. The star-studded cast also includes Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, Kunal Kapoor as Indra, and Arun Govil, who famously played Rama in Ramanand Sagar's 1980s TV series, now appearing as Dashratha. Earlier, Ranbir had spoken about how meaningful it was to portray Lord Rama, calling it a "dream" role. 'It teaches what Indian culture is about — family and husband-wife dynamics,' he said. 'And to tell this story to a new generation with the kind of technology we have, it's a very exciting and gratifying opportunity for me as an actor.' The makers are expected to use cutting-edge visual effects and large-scale production design to recreate the epic, aiming to create a film of international standards while staying rooted in Indian tradition. With immense anticipation building, 'Ramayana: Part One' is being positioned as a defining moment in Indian cinema — a blend of devotion, mythology, and modern storytelling.

Fans eagerly waiting for Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana are in for a treat as the first official glimpse of the film is dropping soon. Starring Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita, and Yash as Raavan, Ramayana is one of most-anticipated films of the year. According to reports, the makers will be unveiling the film's logo on July 3, 2025. It's more of an official announcement to kick things off and confirm the release plans. The report also says that the teaser, which is about 3 minutes long, is already ready. But the makers don't plan to release it soon since Ramayana is still a year and a half away from hitting theatres. Along with Ranbir, Sai, and Yash, Ramayana also features an impressive star cast. Sunny Deol will be seen as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey plays Laxman, Lara Dutta takes on the role of Kaikeyi, Rakul Preet Singh will be seen as Surpanakha, and Kajal Aggarwal plays Mandodari. Ramayana is planned as a two-part film. The first part is set to release in theatres on Diwali 2026, followed by the second part on Diwali 2027. As per reports, the first instalment will end with the Sita Haran episode, though this hasn't been officially confirmed yet. Last November, producer Namit Malhotra had announced the release date s, saying, 'More than a decade ago, I embarked on a noble quest to bring this epic that has ruled billions of hearts for over 5000 years to the big screen. And today, I am thrilled to see it taking shape beautifully as our teams work tirelessly with only one purpose: to present the most authentic, sacred, and visually stunning adaptation of our history, our truth, and our culture – our 2'RAMAYANA"– for people across the world. Join us as we fulfill our dream of bringing our greatest epic to life with pride and reverence… Part 1 in Diwali 2026 and Part 2 in Diwali 2027 From our entire Ramayana Family." Namit also shared the first poster of the film. The poster featured an arrow, that oozes of magic and is coated with a golden glow. The poster reads, 'Namit Malhotra's Ramayana" along with the release date. Check it out below: The poster was released just weeks after KGF star Yash had confirmed he has joined the film to play the role of Raavan and fulfill the duties of a co-producer. The actor told The Hollywood Reporter India, 'If the character is treated like a character… if this doesn't happen today, then the film won't happen. To make a film with that kind of budget, you need those kinds of actors to come together." He further stated that he was drawn to the role of Ravana due to the character's complexity and depth, describing it as 'the most exciting character" he has been offered in his career.
