Kumulus Water raises $3.5mln to redefine clean water access with off-grid tech in MENA and Europe

Zawya12-06-2025
MENA – Kumulus Water, the WaterTech startup transforming air into clean drinking water, has successfully raised $3.5 million in seed funding. The round was led by Bpifrance via France 2030 SGPI and the Île-de-France Region, and included participation from other international regional and investors, such as Plus VC, MENA's most active VC, Khalys Venture, Flat6Labs, Europe's leading bottled water group Spadel, and several family offices and founders from Europe and North Africa.
This strategic investment marks a major step in Kumulus' mission to provide decentralized, sustainable drinking water in regions facing water scarcity or lacking reliable infrastructure.
Founded in 2021 by Iheb Triki and Mohamed Ali Abid, Kumulus designs and manufactures atmospheric water generators that extract safe drinking water from air humidity, without requiring any existing water or electricity infrastructure. The company's systems are currently in use in schools, hotels, and remote communities across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
'We're deeply grateful to our existing and new investors for their trust and continued support,' said Iheb Triki, CEO and Co-founder of Kumulus Water. 'Their involvement is a strong vote of confidence in our technology and our vision. At Kumulus, we believe access to clean drinking water should not depend on existing infrastructure. With this funding, we're taking a major step toward making clean water accessible, sustainable, and decentralized—especially for the communities that need it most.'
With this new funding, Kumulus will launch the Kumulus Boks, a new line of industrial-grade, cutting-edge Atmospheric Water Generators (AWG), that provide clean drinking water directly from air humidity, while scaling operations in Tunisia, France, Spain and preparing market entry into Saudi Arabia.
Commenting on the fundraising announcement, Hasan Haider, Founder and Managing Partner at +VC said: 'Kumulus is building a scalable, climate-resilient solution to one of the most critical regional and global challenges-access to clean drinking water. At +VC, we invest in founders who are not only mission-driven, solving real-world problems but also executing with commercially scalable solutions. Kumulus fits that profile and is well-positioned for both regional and global growth. We're excited to support their journey as they scale meaningful impact, making them stand out in the climate-tech space.'
'We believe the world needs complementary solutions to address the growing challenge of drinking water scarcity,' added Clément Yvorra, Global Business Development Manager at Spadel. 'What convinced us is Kumulus' ability to produce water locally, without packaging or transportation, offering a truly sustainable alternative.'
'This funding allows us to scale not just production, but impact,' said Mohamed Ali Abid, Co-founder and CTO of Kumulus Water. 'We have spent the past few years refining a technology that can operate reliably in some of the harshest and most water-stressed environments. Now, we are ready to deploy it at scale and bring truly off-grid, sustainable water access to more communities across the region and beyond.'
As climate change intensifies and water scarcity deepens, Kumulus offers a resilient, infrastructure-free solution that delivers safe drinking water to even the most remote and arid regions, building not just machines, but long-term climate resilience and empowered communities. Kumulus Water is redefining how clean water is delivered—turning air into drinking water without infrastructure, plastic waste, or grid dependency. By deploying off-grid atmospheric water generators, Kumulus provides a sustainable, decentralized solution for communities facing limited or unreliable access to clean water.

Gulf Arbitration Center unveils advanced mechanisms for registering arbitrators and experts

London, United Kingdom – The Secretary-General of the GCC Commercial Arbitration Centre, Dr. Kamal Al-Hamad, affirmed the Centre's commitment to strict and advanced standards in the procedures for registering arbitrators and experts. During an official visit to the headquarters of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) in London, attended by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee, Lawyer Majid Garoub, and committee member Mr. Brandon Malone, Chairman of the Scottish Arbitration Centre, Dr. Al-Hamad emphasized the Centre's dedication to aligning with the best and most up-to-date global practices in commercial arbitration and dispute resolution. This effort is part of the Centre's strategic plan to be ranked among the top five commercial arbitration centers worldwide. Dr. Al-Hamad stated that the rigorous standards applied by the Centre in accepting arbitrators and experts are a foundational pillar of its success in delivering professional dispute resolution services and achieving the highest levels of quality and trust. By adopting strict, well-defined criteria, the Centre ensures the selection of highly competent professionals with extensive experience, skills, and qualifications—capable of making precise decisions. This, in turn, encourages disputing parties to turn to the Centre for resolution and benefit from its services. He added that the criteria include possessing legal knowledge, analytical thinking, communication skills, the ability to manage complex situations, impartiality, and a deep understanding of arbitration principles and the laws governing the disputes being resolved. 'We consider these rigorous standards the cornerstone of the Centre's reputation and sustained success. The arbitrators and experts we appoint play a vital role in building our reputation as a leading commercial arbitration center. They reflect the efficiency and quality of the services we provide by possessing arbitration expertise, professional qualifications, and relevant licenses,' he said. Dr. Al-Hamad pointed out that an arbitrator or expert is a neutral third party appointed to help resolve disputes outside of traditional court procedures. To be an effective arbitrator, one must have a range of skills that enable them to listen to arguments presented by parties, assess evidence impartially, and make swift, reliable, and fair decisions. He also noted that the Centre currently has a large team of specialized arbitrators and experts across various fields. Their skills and expertise are continuously assessed in accordance with the Centre's work and the specialized arbitration services it provides.

Dollar stablecoins threaten Europe's monetary autonomy, ECB blog argues

The dollar's early dominance of stablecoins gives the U.S. an advantage that could ultimately push up borrowing costs for Europe, reduce the ECB's autonomy and increase geopolitical dependency on the U.S., an ECB blog post argued on Monday. Stablecoins, crypto assets pegged to a currency such as the dollar, have gained popularity in recent years and got a big boost earlier this month when U.S. President Donald Trump signed a law to create a regulatory regime, aimed at cementing the dollar's status as the global reserve currency. "Such dominance of the U.S. dollar would provide the United States with strategic and economic advantages, allowing it to finance its debt more cheaply while exerting global influence," ECB adviser Jürgen Schaaf said in a post that does not necessarily reflect the ECB's own views. "For Europe, this would mean higher financing costs relative to the United States, reduced monetary policy autonomy and geopolitical dependency," he added. If dollar-based stablecoins become widely used in the euro area, for payments, savings or settlement, the ECB's control over monetary conditions could be weakened, Schaaf argued. Dollar-pegged stablecoins issued by Tether and Circle have dominated the global market and the share of euro-denominated stablecoins remains marginal, with market capitalisation of less than 350 million euros, the blog post said. Europe should thus act quickly, creating the digital version of its euro currency, a project, that is being held up by legislative delays, and should foster the creation of more euro-based stablecoins. The EU should also foster the use of distributed ledger technology to speed up cheap cross-border payments, the blog argued. "Finally, stronger global coordination on stablecoin regulation is pivotal," the blog said. "If we forgo a common approach, we risk fuelling instability, regulatory arbitrage and global U.S. dollar dominance."
