Toddler drowns in St. Lawrence River on Wolfe Island
A one-year-old girl drowned after being found unresponsive in the St. Lawrence River Friday morning, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
Police say officers responded to Stoney Point Lane on Wolfe Island, south of Kingston at approximately 9:30 a.m.
Family members and fire responders immediately initiated life-saving measures, OPP said in a news release.
The toddler was transported to a regional trauma centre where she was later pronounced dead.
'The toddler's identity will not be released to safeguard the privacy of the grieving family,' police say.
OPP Const. Joey Mason tells CTV News Ottawa the toddler was a young girl just months short of two-years-old.
No foul play is suspected, he said.

2 dead in Lacombe County collision
An investigation is underway into a Saturday morning crash in Lacombe County that left two people dead and two others injured. At 9:55 a.m., Sylvan Lake RCMP responded to reports of a serious crash at the intersection of Highway 766 and Highway 12. Officers discovered the two occupants of a GMC Sierra, a 75-year-old and a 72-year-old man from Lacombe, were dead. The two occupants of a Dodge truck, a 23-year-old and a 19-year-old man from Red Deer, were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The scene has now been cleared by RCMP and normal traffic flow has resumed.

Ottawa OPP catch drivers racing at ‘dangerously' high speeds on Hwy. 417
Two drivers were caught allegedly street racing at up to 190 km/h on Highway 417 in Ottawa. (OPP East Region/X) Two people are facing charges for allegedly street racing at dangerously high speeds on Highway 417 in Ottawa early Saturday morning. Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say in a post on X that officers observed the two vehicles racing shortly after 2 a.m. in the east end of the city. Police say the pair was caught going as fast as 190 km/h on the highway. A driver from Ottawa and another from Windsor were criminally charged with dangerous driving and stunt driving. Both had their driver's licences immediately suspended for 30-days and vehicles impounded for 14-days. Stunt driving charges can come with fines of up to $10,000, additional licence suspensions, six demerit points and a mandatory driver improvement course upon conviction. The suspects will appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa at a later date.
