'Move is appreciated': Kangana Ranaut after crackdown on OTT platforms
Speaking to ANI, the 'Emergency' star said that the move was crucial to protect the country's young people and was issued in the public interest.
"The ban has been imposed to ensure that our culture and the minds of the youth are not corrupted. It is important to see that our society is not headed toward a complete downfall. It was awaited for a long time," she said.
Kangana also appreciated the step taken against the illegal functioning of the OTT applications.
Likewise, actor Ravi Kishan has also welcomed the decision, stating that "boundaries and limits need to be set."
According to sources, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered the blocking of 25 over-the-top (OTT) platforms over allegedly publishing obscene, vulgar, and even pornographic material.
As a part of it, platforms like Ullu, ALTT, Big Shots App, NeonX VIP, and Desiflix were found disseminating content that directly violated several provisions of Indian law, including Section 67 and 67A of the Information Technology Act, Section 292 of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986.
A total of 14 mobile applications, 26 websites have been ordered to be disabled by intermediaries under provisions of the IT Act, 2000 and the IT (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
Much of the content showcased on the aforementioned platforms involved graphic sexual innuendos, long sequences of nudity, and pornographic visuals. Some, they believed, also had inappropriate sexual situations involving family relationships, which aggravated concerns over legality and decency.
Previoulsy, in September 2024, all 25 platforms received official warnings. The Ministry also issued an advisory, asking the OTT platforms to comply with India's obscenity laws and the Code of Ethics prescribed under the IT Rules, 2021. (ANI)

The Thailand-Cambodia conflict Thailand and Cambodia clashed for a third day on Saturday, as the death toll from their bloodiest fighting in years rose to 33 and Phnom Penh called for an "immediate ceasefire". The death toll across the two countries is now higher than the 28 killed in the last major round of fighting between 2008 and 2011. The fighting marks a dramatic escalation in a long-running dispute over their shared 800-kilometre (500-mile) border. The neighbours are both popular destinations for millions of foreign tourists. Dozens of kilometres in several areas are contested, and fighting broke out between 2008 and 2011, leaving at least 28 people dead and tens of thousands displaced. A UN court ruling in 2013 settled the matter for over a decade, but the current crisis erupted in May when a Cambodian soldier was killed in a new clash.

In the lengthy statement, Ekta Kapoor clarified that while she runs Balaji Telefims, she had stepped down from her role at ALTT in June 2021. 'Balaji Telefilms Limited, listed on the BSE and NSE, is a professionally run media organization and following the recent amalgamation of ALT Digital Media Entertainment Ltd. (previously its wholly owned subsidiary) duly approved by the Hon'ble NCLT, it operates ALTT wef June 20, 2025,' it said. 'Media reports have been in circulation about ALTT being disabled by the authorities, however, contrary to such reports, Ms. Ekta Kapoor and Mrs. Shobha Kapoor are not associated in any capacity whatsoever with ALTT and they had stepped down from their association with ALTT way back in June 2021. Any insinuation contrary to the above facts is strongly denied and media is requested to report the accurate facts,' the statement added.
