Police book YouTube channel for defamatory video against Bandi
Hyderabad: The cyber crime police have registered a case against a YouTube channel for allegedly publishing a defamatory video targeting Union minister of state for home Bandi Sanjay Kumar. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The case was filed following a complaint lodged by RV Pavan Maitreya of the BJP's legal cell on Tuesday. According to the complaint, a video uploaded on June 26 by the channel 'Bharat Yuvasena' made baseless and derogatory allegations, accusing the minister of colluding with political rivals. The content was allegedly intended to malign the minister's reputation, the complainant said. Investigators have received both a copy of the video and its web link for examination. Based on the complaint, police registered a case under section 67 of the Information Technology Act and section 336(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to forgery intended to harm reputation. Cyber crime officials said they will be approaching Google to obtain the details of the individual who uploaded the video and will proceed further based on the findings.

Infosys employee arrested for recording videos in women's washroom at Bengaluru office
The Electronics City police said on Wednesday that they arrested a 30-year-old Infosys employee who allegedly secretly recorded videos of his female colleagues in the office washroom. Swapnil Nagesh from Sangli, Maharashtra, who worked as a technical analyst at the company's Electronics City campus in southeastern Bengaluru, has been charged under section 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and section 66E (violation of privacy) of the Information Technology Act. The incident occurred on Monday, when he was allegedly caught red-handed after recording videos of two women. According to the police, the primary victim discovered the violation around 11 am while using the washroom on the third floor of the IQE wing in building 38. She noticed suspicious reflections in the mirror and sensed movement from the door partition of the adjacent stall. Upon investigation, she allegedly discovered Nagesh standing on a commode in the neighbouring stall with his mobile phone recording. When confronted, Nagesh began apologising but was quickly apprehended by two HR executives who responded to the victim's cries for help. HR personnel found incriminating video evidence on his phone and took screenshots before deleting the video. The police recovered two videos from the device's recycle bin, with forensic analysis underway to determine if additional recordings exist. Investigators revealed that Nagesh had joined the company just three months ago and had recorded another female employee before the incident described in the police complaint, which was lodged on Tuesday. Nagesh was produced before a magistrate following his arrest, with the police continuing their investigation into the full scope of his activities. Infosys said in a statement, 'We are aware of this incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is now separated from the Company. We also promptly supported the complainant by facilitating a swift complaint with the law enforcement authorities and continue to cooperate as they investigate further. Infosys is committed to providing an environment free of harassment and has a zero-tolerance policy. We take every complaint related to any violation of the Company's Code of Conduct seriously.'

BENGALURU: A 30-year-old Infosys employee was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly "filming" a female colleague inside the women's washroom at the company's Electronic City campus, police said. The accused, identified as Swapnil Nagesh Mali, a Senior Associate Consultant from Sangli, Maharashtra, was caught by HR personnel and handed over to the police. There was no immediate response from Infosys on the incident. According to police, the incident occurred on Monday morning when the woman noticed a suspicious reflection and movement from an adjacent cubicle while using the washroom. Moments later, she alleged that Mali was standing on a commode in the next cubicle, filming her with his mobile phone, in her complaint. Shocked, she rushed out screaming and alerted her colleagues. The accused, who tried to flee, was caught by HR staff. On checking his phone, HR personnel found a video of the victim and another secretly recorded video of a different woman employee. The accused repeatedly apologised and deleted the videos, but HR staff took a screenshot as evidence before deletion. The woman later approached the Electronic City police, following which a case was registered under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and Section 77 (Voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. "Based on the complaint, we have arrested the man. Further investigation is underway," a senior police officer said.

He was later identified as Swapnil Nagesh Mali, a Senior Associate Consultant at Infosys who had joined the company just three months earlier. Mali hails from Sangli, who checked his phone reportedly found video footage of the complainant, another recording of a different female employee, and over 50 videos downloaded from the internet. While the original video was deleted, a screenshot was preserved and submitted as victim informed the company's HR department and subsequently filed a police complaint with the support of her have booked Mali under Section 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita along with relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. The accused was identified as Swapnil Nagesh Mali, a Senior Associate Consultant with Infosys. He had joined the company three months ago and is a native of Sangli in Maharashtra. Colleagues who checked his phone allegedly found a video of the complainant, along with another video of a different Infosys employee and more than 50 videos downloaded from the internet. A screenshot of the video was taken as evidence and the original file was deleted, police said. The woman reported the matter to the company's HR department and later filed a police complaint with the help of her husband. A case has been registered under Section 77 (voyeurism) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. Police investigations are ongoing. Infosys has not yet issued a public statement on the matter.
