Meghan Markle celebrates Fourth of July with her best friend - and shares the recipe for a very patriotic cocktail

Daily Mail17 hours ago
Meghan Markle has shared the recipe for a very patriotic Fourth of July cocktail - as she celebrated the US holiday in a chic blue and white two-piece.
The Duchess of Sussex, 43, was very active on social media throughout the independence day celebrations, sharing updates on her perfectly designed charcuterie boards and a red, white and blue cocktail.
Sharing a glimpse into Friday night's cocktail hour, Meghan shared a video as she made drinks for herself and her close friend influencer Kelly McKee Zajfen.
The duchess wore a $305 (£225) two-piece from Farm Rio for the occasion, which featured a halter neck top and skirt in a chic blue and white tapestry design.
In a clip, the mother-of-two detailed exactly how to make the simple cocktail, which is a patriotic-inspired version of a gin and tonic.
She begins with crushing raspberries with a fork, adding them to the glass with a generous helping of ice, gin and tonic, and topping the glass with blueberries.
Meghan is then seen plucking a sprig of mint from her garden for a garnish.
She perfects the drinks with a strawberry balanced on the side of the glass, and adds a red and white striped straw.
'Cheers with the ones you love!' she concludes the short instructions.
Kelly McKee Zajfen also shared a photograph from the cocktail hour, showing herself and Meghan toasting the holiday with their patriotic drinks.
She said: 'Here's to freedom, to friendship, and to finding moments of joy wherever we can.
'Grateful for this day, this sunshine, and this perfectly chilled cocktail. Thank you sweet M!
'Wishing everyone a safe, sparkly, and love-filled Fourth of July.'
Earlier, Meghan shared a personal glimpse into her Fourth of July in a very family-orientated upload.
The carousel of images showcased a platter of handmade cupcakes, a close-up of one of the tasty treats and a third image of Meghan cozying up to Harry.
The mother-of-two, in reference to their kids Archie Harrison and Lilibet Diana, wrote in the caption: 'Our second date was the 4th of July 2016 and H brought me cupcakes to celebrate.
'Now, all these years later, our two children are in on the tradition.'
She added: 'Happy Independence Day! May your day be as sweet as these cupcakes.'
Earlier in the day, also in honour of the July 4 holiday, Meghan posted a clip to her As Ever Instagram page showcasing a charcuterie board she had put together - but it has not gone down well with viewers.

In the video, Meghan introduced her board as 'easy entertaining,' and decorated a wooden platter with various fruits, cheeses, and crackers, as well as her sold-out, $14 As Ever raspberry spread.
She looked summer-chic in an oversized, blue-and-white striped button down as she filmed from what appeared to be her own kitchen in Montecito, California.
While she assembled the board, the Duchess, 43, carefully started off by arranging fruits like raspberries and cherries, then added some star-shaped cheese and blueberries, along with some crackers and slices of sourdough bread.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently took their two kids to Disneyland
To finish things off, she took a brand-new container of her raspberry spread, which went on sale as part of the first As Ever drop in April, and scooped it into a small dish.
However, the spread sold out within a half hour of it going on sale, leaving many fans dying to get their hands on it.
As she put the spread onto the board, she accidentally dropped a raspberry into it, laughing as she popped it into her mouth.
'Happy 4th of July!' the caption of the video read.

HGTV star unloads on network in scathing post after show's shock cancellation

Bargain Block star Keith Bynum left fans stunned with a blistering swipe at HGTV after his show fell victim to the network's shock cancellation spree. Without warning, HGTV pulled the plug on Bargain Block, Married to Real Estate and Izzy Does It - with sources warning more changes are coming. The sudden cancellations sent shockwaves through the channel's fandom last week, and left employees of several shows fearing for their jobs. As news spread, Bynum - who starred on Bargain Block with his boyfriend of over a decade Evan Thomas - shared an Instagram post confirming the axe has fallen on their home renovation series after four seasons. Bynym then candidly expressed his feelings about the 'fickle world' of television, his career in which has taken place almost entirely on HGTV. 'Tv is full of a lot of great people but it's also full of some of the worst people I've ever encountered,' the 38-year-old tellingly wrote. 'The last six months have been a pretty wild journey,' he wrote in an Instagram post uploaded shortly after news spread of the cancelations. 'Our entire business and lives have been put through the ringer at the hands of a giant corporation, yet we persist lol,' he quipped. 'Though you may not be seeing us for much longer on HGTV, we're excited that we've built such an amazing base of followers and we're very excited about the future. Everyone always told us TV is a fickle world and they are very right,' he added. 'Tv is full of a lot of great people but it's also full of some of the worst people I've ever encountered. Evan and I have always tried hard to stick to what we know and what we're good at which is being ourselves.' Striking an upbeat tone, he told his more than 130,000 followers: 'We love you all and we're very excited to announce what's next soon!' On the Fourth of July, HGTV's Battle on the Beach joined the channel's scrap heap as co-host Alison Victoria revealed the show had not been renewed for season five. Shortly after the initial raft of cancellations, network sources spoke exclusively to about the thinking behind the move. 'We had to stop the bleeding,' said the senior source, who claimed that revenues were underperforming and the network needed to act. 'Decisions are still being made,' said the insider, who works directly with programming. 'It sucks for everyone involved but that's the TV business. Everyone understands that. Cable networks are struggling now, and we all have to make smart decisions.' Farmhouse Fixer host Jonathan Knight confirmed that his show, co-presented by Kristina Crestin, had been axed on Wednesday after three seasons. 'A lot of you have been asking about the future of Farmhouse Fixer,' he said. 'I am sad to say HGTV has decided not to move forward with another season. 'While I'm still processing the reasons that led to their decision, Kristina and I are so grateful for all your support over the past three seasons. Television has been so incredibly fun for us.' It was a surprise move by the network, given that former New Kids on the Block singer Knight is one of the most recognizable stars on the HGTV roster. 'We were hemorrhaging money. So in order to stop the bleeding, we had to have a bloodbath. It was calculated cuts to make things make sense, financially.' 'He's well-known for sure,' said the network insider, 'but there are hosts on our shows who are more the face of the network. We're not getting rid of [Hometown hosts] Ben and Erin Napier anytime soon. They're probably the biggest stars we've got.' The decision to keep or cut a show comes down to revenue, and the Napiers enjoy the network's highest ratings. Each episode of Hometown garners around one million viewers, and is rebroadcast several times throughout the week. Other top performers include Rock the Block, My Lottery Dream Home, 100 Day Dream Home, Castle Impossible and House Hunters International. 'Obviously, things can change but the ratings performers are probably pretty safe,' said the insider. 'House Hunters International is a bit more expensive to produce, but the ratings justify it.' But some of the lesser-known shows, including Luxe for Less and Unsellable Houses, are facing uncertain futures. The show Izzy Does It was an easier cancellation decision, the executive said, because it was just entering Season 2 and had not yet built a devoted fan base. Host Israel 'Izzy' Battres has not issued a statement directly addressing his show's cancellation, but did respond to a fan online. 'Unfortunately, no season two,' Battres said, 'but we're truly thankful for everyone watching and supporting us!!' Married to Real Estate's hosts Mike Jackson and Egypt Sherrod described the decision to axe their show as 'unexpected' in a joint statement. 'Mike and I just landed back in the States after an unforgettable family trip through the Mediterranean, and we're met with unexpected news: HGTV has decided not to move forward with Married to Real Estate,' it read. 'While the chain of events leading up to this is disheartening, we are deeply grateful. Grateful for four incredible seasons. Grateful for our amazing crew and supportive fans.' The network insider acknowledged that the cancellations were 'brutal' but believes that all those impacted would find other projects. 'There are so many opportunities in home renovation media, whether it's on a network like HGTV or something online or something totally different. I am pretty sure everyone will land on their feet.'

Influencer Tanner Martin is laid to rest after announcing his own death in heartbreaking video

Influencer Tanner Martin was laid to rest during a funeral service in Utah on Saturday after he announced his own death in a heartbreaking video. He passed away at the age of 30 following a battle with stage IV colon cancer which he was first diagnosed with in 2020. The emotional clip was uploaded on June 25 to Instagram by his wife Shay Wright. 41 days before his death, the pair had welcomed their first child together — a daughter named AmyLou. The public service — which was also streamed via Zoom for those that could not attend in person — had been announced by his wife on social media. In a post shared a week earlier, Wright encouraged attendees to 'wear something Star Wars in honor of Tanner — ties, pins, stickers, our custom Rebels Against Cancer shirts with other formal wear.' She added that, 'Tanner requested for Star Wars stickers to be placed on his casket.' Shay further offered gratitude to the love and support both she and Tanner had received from over the years. 'We are so grateful for this community & all of you that love Tanner with us. Your support has carried us in many years.' In the caption, Wright also included a quote from Tanner and penned, '"Be kind and assume good intent." - Tanner. Thank you all for your support during this time.' Martin is survived by Shay, their daughter AmyLou, his mom Kimberly and father Thomas, as well as brother Spencer, per Us Weekly. Tanner was remembered by his loved ones, including his parents that each gave moving eulogies during the funeral service. Kimberly said that her son had been an 'outstanding example of faith' and added, 'Even while being very ill with cancer, if you could, you would attend sacrament your PJs and robe. 'You taught me that you can see the blessings and love in our Savior in any situation. Because of that, it brings happiness,' she continued. Kimberly then recalled a conversation she had with Tanner one day when he was receiving chemotherapy treatment. 'I just asked you, "Are you angry or frustrated because I am?" He looked surprised and said to me, "Ma, because of cancer, I have been so blessed." '"I've been able to experience our Savior's love for me through others. I know I'm loved by my family, friends and those I interact with during treatments,' his mother added. Tanner had said he was 'blessed' and because of his cancer, he was able to meet 'the nurses and doctors and other patients [who] are so amazing.' Towards the end of her eulogy, Kimberly expressed that it was 'a miracle' to see Tanner 'grow your family' with Shay. 'You have left an amazing legacy of faith, kindness, love and what it means to be a true disciple of our Savior for our sweet AmyLou.' Tanner's father also stated that, 'It is an honor and pleasure to be his dad — and it still is,' before adding that his son was 'always just generally happy.' Shortly before his death, Thomas recalled watching Star Wars and Lord Of The Rings movies with Tanner and his brother Spencer. He also credited Shay as being a 'wonderful companion' to Tanner but emotionally added, 'It sometimes doesn't seem fair that I've had 30 Father's Days, and Tanner had one.' Last month on Father's Day, Wright uploaded a video montage to her Instagram page to celebrate Tanner becoming a dad when their daughter was born. And 10 days later, Tanner delivered the heartbreaking news of his death in a pre-recorded video message posted by Shay. The couple had documented his difficult journey on social media after he was diagnosed with colorectal cancer five years earlier. Tanner was as smiley and disarming as ever as he addressed the camera directly. 'Hey, it's me, Tanner. If you're watching this, I am dead,' he began, before easing some of the tension with a laugh at his own gallows humor. 'I had a heck of a life. I decided to make this video announcing my death because I saw someone did that, like, a year or so ago, and I think it's a good opportunity to get all your thoughts out,' he explained. Despite his bubbly demeanor, his voice was clearly weak and raspy as he spoke about how his wife Shay would cope with his death just weeks after becoming a new mother. 'But you guys, life was awesome. I really enjoyed it while I was here,' Tanner continued. 'Hopefully, I believe there's something after this. I'm excited to meet those people, and hopefully we're hanging out now and making fun of all you nerds,' he said, before noting family members whose deaths preceded his own. 'There's just a lot of people that for the afterlife, I'm excited to see them, and excited to see them not in pain and just happy,' he added. Even more shocking than the announcement of his own death was how optimistic Tanner managed to be as the end of his time on Earth neared. 'I don't know. I'm like, death is scary, but it's also like a new adventure, you know,' he admitted. 'I'm excited to see what the experience is like, and hopefully it's good.' He concluded his video by stating that he loved his fans and thanking them for their 'support and helping to make the last years of my life here on earth like fun and enjoyable and helping me be comfortable.' In her caption, his wife Shay wrote, 'May the force be with you from our angel force ghost see the next video for his wish.' The second video Shay shared on Wednesday again featured Tanner in the same room, but he was visibly weaker and his voice was even more frail. He sat on a sofa wrapped in a thick blanket, and next to him was his snoozing baby daughter AmyLou on a pink pillow. In the heartbreaking video, Tanner said that his daughter likely would have no memories of him because of how young she would be when he died. He urged his fans to help his wife and daughter after his death by contributing to a GoFundMe account set up in their name. By 2023, doctors determined that Tanner's cancer was no longer curable, and they estimated that he might live two to five more years According to the Washington Post, Tanner began noticing symptoms of his cancer — initially just stomach aches — in 2020. But the pain soon grew, and he decided to see a doctor about it after he began having difficulty going to the bathroom as well. A colonoscopy soon discovered that he had stage 4 colorectal cancer, which had already spread to his liver by the time it was discovered. By 2023, doctors determined that Tanner's cancer was no longer curable, and they estimated that he might live two to five more years.
