PM Anwar's welfare initiatives boost public support for Madani govt
The initiatives include a one-off RM100 cash aid for Malaysians aged 18 and above under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme, maintained RON95 petrol subsidies at RM1.99 per litre, and deferred toll rate hikes for 10 major highways.
Ramanan noted the RM100 assistance, with a RM2 billion allocation, will be distributed digitally without complex eligibility checks.
He added that declaring Sept 15 as an additional public holiday aims to boost domestic tourism, particularly benefiting rural economies reliant on visitor spending.
The expanded Rahmah Sales Programme, backed by RM600 million, will now cover 600 state constituencies to improve access to affordable essentials.
Ramanan, who is Sungai Buloh MP, emphasised the government's data-driven approach in balancing public needs with fiscal responsibility.
'Policy decisions are shaped by transparency and focused on meeting rakyat's needs,' he said.
He urged public backing for Madani policies promoting unity and inclusivity amid global economic pressures. – Bernama

PM: Tokenisation and digital assets must benefit all
KUALA LUMPUR: The government will continue to ensure that the implementation of tokenisation and digital assets is inclusive, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In a post on X last night, the Prime Minister said the implementation would also deliver broad benefits to the people and be strictly regulated to ensure the safety and stability of the country's digital ecosystem. Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, chaired the second Digital Assets and Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council meeting of the year today, which focused on the future of digital assets in Malaysia's capital market. "Among the main agenda items discussed were developments in blockchain technology, tokenisation, post-quantum cryptography, and the launch of the Malaysia Blockchain Infrastructure (MBI), which is a key driver of the nation's digital ecosystem." "This meeting also served as a platform to exchange views on global market trends, the potential of digital assets, and future performance expectations based on technical perspectives from strategic partners," he added. On May 6, the Malaysian Securities Commission issued a consultation paper to gather public feedback on the proposed framework for tokenised capital market products. The paper seeks input on key areas including governance controls, record-keeping and registration requirements, technology risk management, and additional requirements for licensed individuals dealing with tokenised capital market products.– BERNAMA

Anwar: Fatwa institutions must act collectively, guided by experts
KUALA LUMPUR: Fatwa institutions must operate collectively and ensure that any religious edict is based on information gathering and in-depth analysis by qualified experts, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. In a Facebook post last night, Anwar said the matter was among those discussed during his meeting with the Penang State Fatwa Committee, led by Penang Mufti Assoc Prof Dr Mohd Sukki Othman. "The responsibility of issuing fatwas is a noble and vital duty in providing clarity on religious rulings for the understanding of the ummah. The ummah needs fatwas that are in line with local realities and the current era, in addition to developing new skills in dealing with contemporary issues and challenges for the benefit of society," he said. In the same post, Anwar said he and members of the Penang State Fatwa Committee also exchanged views on the development of Islamic scholarship, particularly in matters related to fiqh, maqasid syariah, and efforts to strengthen fatwa-related research. - BERNAMA
