TN ministers, VCK chief, TNCC prez and other leaders offer floral tribute
In his condolence message, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai said, 'M K Muthu held a unique place in Tamil Nadu's political and cinematic history.' He expressed deep condolences on behalf of the TNCC to CM Stalin, Muthu's family members, DMK cadre and the film fraternity.
MDMK general secretary Vaiko also offered his condolences, saying he was deeply saddened by the passing of Muthu. He extended his sympathies to Stalin, Muthu's wife Sivakamasundari, son Arivunithi, daughter Thenmozhi and other family members.
Besides, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan, CPM state secretary P Shanmugam, TMC(M) president G K Vasan, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss and former union minister Su Thirunavukkarasar also condoled Muthu's passing.
TN ministers, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan, TNCC president K Selvaperunthagai, MMK president M H Jawahirullah, MDMK principal secretary Durai Vaiko, former CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan, IUML president K M Kadher Mohideen and others paid floral tribute to Muthu.

Palaniswami promises protection to traditional fishermen, holds meeting with weavers
Promising protection and a meaningful dialogue with Sri Lankan government through Union government, the interests of fishermen from Tamil Nadu would be accorded priority, AIADMK general secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said here on Thursday. Speaking at an interaction with leaders of fishermen and representatives of weavers, accompanied by former Minister and AIADMK MLA R.B. Udayakumar, Mr. Palaniswami said that the AIADMK, if elected to power in 2026 elections, would certainly take up the issue of fishermen with the Union government. 'I give an assurance that there will be a big change in your lives and we will find a lasting solution,' he said. The country boat fishermen submitted a memorandum to the former Chief Minister, who assured them to look into their grievances. The AIADMK government had not only ordered waiver of crop loans during crisis due to natural calamities, but also helped farmers get ₹540 crore through claims from the insurance companies. The eligible farmers were given three-phase power connection with 24-hour quality electricity, he pointed out. The AIADMK government had desilted tanks and channels under special scheme by earmarking funds. Such was the commitment to stakeholders, Mr. Palaniswami said and wanted the fishermen leaders to think of the situation now. The AIADMK had proposed to establish Cauvery-Gundar water scheme at ₹14,400 crore and preparatory work was commenced then. However, the DMK had put it in cold storage. He promised that the AIADMK would revive the ambitious project and sought the support of farmers. River linking scheme A surplus of 1.24 lakh cusecs of water released from Mettur dam drained into the sea in the last few days. Had the Cauvery-Gundar scheme been implemented, this water could have reached parched regions such as Ramanathapuram district, he said. The weavers' cooperative societies were generating generating in a big way because of innovative schemes launched by them (AIADMK) while he urged the members to think of their present plight. Later, Mr. Palaniswami visited the King Sethupathi palace, where he was received by Muthuramalinga Nagendra Sethupathi and his mother Lakshmi Nachiar. He was taken around the palace and shown the antiques. He paid tributes to the portrait of the late King.

YSRCP leader sent mails to Singapore govt. to stall investments in A.P., alleges Lokesh
A day after the 'successful Singapore visit', HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh has made a sensational disclosure that a person closely associated with the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) sent mails to the Singapore government and firms of international repute in an apparent bid to sabotage the State government's efforts to rebuild the Brand Andhra image. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Mr. Lokesh accused the YSRCP sympathisers of deliberately attempting to block investments into the State. A person named Murali Krishna, allegedly linked to the previous YSRCP regime, had sent an email to the Singapore authorities cautioning them against investing in Andhra Pradesh, citing an imminent change of government. 'This kind of sabotage is deeply unfortunate,' Lokesh said, adding, 'This, we call criminalisation of politics. They don't want investments, don't want A.P. to develop.' It was found that Mr. Murali Krishna is associated with Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy. The government has already initiated action. The government would not spare anyone who tried to tarnish the image and brand of Andhra Pradesh, he asserted. 'While States like Tamil Nadu show political maturity, where both DMK and AIADMK work jointly to attract investments, here in Andhra Pradesh, YSRCP leaders are actively working against the State's development by writing letters discouraging companies from investing,' Mr. Lokesh said. He questioned the motives behind such actions, emphasising the long-term damage they cause. 'Who would want to bring capital to a region where political forces themselves attempt to undermine economic growth?' he asked. 'In the end, it's not the politicians but the people of Andhra Pradesh who lose out — on jobs, on infrastructure, on prosperity.' Mr. Lokesh also used the occasion to contrast the current government's proactive investment drive with the performance of the previous administration. 'In just 14 months, the new government under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has attracted more investments than the YSRCP government could in five years,' he said. Highlighting the recent success of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu's Singapore tour, the Minister noted that deals worth ₹45,000 crore have already been finalised. He reiterated that the current government is not engaging in symbolic MoUs but is focused on converting commitments into actual projects on the ground.

Tiruppur Corporation councillors close ranks, mull strategies for solid waste management
Rising above politics in a rare show of solidarity, Tiruppur Corporation councillors on Thursday closed ranks for a constructive discussion to strategise solid waste management at the council meeting, in the backdrop of accumulation of garbage over the last few days due to the strong resistance by the public in local bodies in the rural surroundings to dumping of garbage in abandoned stone quarries. Members of the DMK, AIADMK, Congress, CPI and other parties unanimously expressed desire to involve MLAs of Tiruppur North, Tiruppur South and Palladam, and Tiruppur Lok Sabha MP, for finding a lasting solution to the crisis, on the premise that the industrial activities in the city that ensures mega-scale livelihood should not be hampered in the overall interests of the economy. Responding to the plea, Mayor N. Dinesh Kumar said the civic body will shortly convene a meeting involving the people's representatives and prevail upon the local bodies in the rural surroundings to permit utilisation of sites that would not cause harm to the environment. The overwhelming opinion of the council was that while the State government should step-up attention to the crisis situation, the Central government also had a responsibility to provide funding for solid waste management, factoring in the abundant foreign exchange generated by the textile units in the city. The Mayor also added that the councillors' emphasis on retrieval of encroached land zone-wise for utilisation of sites well within the Corporation limits for recycling the garbage would be examined. Officials said 358 OSR (Open Space Reservation) land sites have been identified throughout the city and that ₹75 lakh has been sanctioned by the Tiruppur district administration for fencing the land sites. The Corporation, the Mayor added, was working on setting right the machinery in the 16 micro compost centres, and was expediting the process for establishment of the bio CNG plant with a daily capacity to handle 200 metric tonnes of wastes. Mr. Kumar drew the attention of the council to the financial allocation made for the mega project in Karumathampatti for conversion of electricity from the garbage generated in Coimbatore, Tiruppur and Erode cities. The members sought sensitisation programmes for the public for segregation of wastes at source, and recycling. Most of the councillors expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of SWMS, the private contractor undertaking the solid waste management activities in the city. The Mayor spoke about the impending augmentation of the City Corporation's hitherto insufficient workforce with the addition of junior engineers and 15 sanitary inspectors, for better monitoring of solid waste management.
