TNCC chief meets S Ramadoss, says only a courtesy call, no alliance talks
VILLUPURAM: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai met PMK founder S Ramadoss at his residence in Thailapuram near Tindivanam on Friday. The meeting of a leader of the DMK-led alliance amid the intense leadership tussle under way within the PMK between Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss raised eyebrows, especially since Anbumani recently accused the ruling DMK of being behind the tussle. But Ramadoss had later refuted it. Selvaperunthagai, however, clarified to the media, that the meeting, which lasted roughly for about 30 minutes, was purely a courtesy call. 'There is no political angle. Dr Ramadoss has been in public life for 40 years and I met him out of respect,' he said, adding that he enquired about the leader's health. TNCC vice-president K Vijayan accompanied him. 'There was no discussion about alliances. If the PMK is to join the DMK-led alliance, only Chief Minister M K Stalin can decide that,' Selvaperunthagai said. He said Anbumani's remarks blaming the DMK for the PMK's internal rift reflected his lack of understanding. 'Dr Ramadoss is a seasoned politician who will take the right decision in Tamil Nadu's interest.' Selvaperunthagai said the meeting happened while en route to Chennai after attending the centenary celebration of late Congress leader Ilayaperumal at Kattumannarkoil, Cuddalore, on Thursday, where senior Congress leader P Chidambaram was present.

Four fishermen from Nagapattinam district sustained injuries after they were allegedly attacked mid-sea by a group of five unidentified persons, suspected to be Sri Lankan nationals, in the early hours of Thursday (June 26, 2025). The incident occurred around 20 nautical miles east of Kodiyakarai. Coastal Security Group sources said they were fishing mid-sea when a group of five unidentified persons, suspected to be from Sri Lanka, approached them on another fibre boat. The group reportedly boarded the fishermen's boat and allegedly attacked them with wooden logs, robbing them of their fishing gear, a GPS gadget, and a battery. The injured fishermen narrated their ordeal to the Coastal Security Group on reaching the shore on Thursday morning. One of the fishermen, M. Senthil, 42, the owner of the fibre boat, sustained an injury to the head. The three others who were injured in the attack were identified as: D. Mohan, 33, M. Arokiadas, 28, and M. Michael George, 28. The four fishermen were sent to the Nagapattinam Government Medical College Hospital in an ambulance, the sources said. Fishermen from Tamil Nadu, who venture into the sea for their livelihood, are facing numerous challenges,' he said. The Indian Navy must intensify its patrolling efforts along the maritime border to ensure the safety of Indian fishermen. Lord Murugan will annihilate BJP in '26 polls: TNCC president Selvaperunthagai
COIMBATORE: Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) president K Selvaperunthagai launched a scathing attack on the BJP, accusing the party of promoting communal politics and undermining Tamil identity. Speaking to reporters at the Coimbatore airport on Sunday, he said, 'Tamil God Murugan will perform a 'Soorasamharam' (divine annihilation) of the BJP in the 2026 Assembly elections.' He accused the BJP of trying to manipulate religious sentiments for political gain, particularly through the recent announcement of the 'Murugan maanadu' in Madurai. 'Why is there a need for such a conference? Just like they politicised Lord Ram in Ayodhya, they are now trying to do the same with Murugan in Tamil Nadu. Even Lord Ram has distanced himself from the BJP. Lord Murugan belongs to Tamil soil and will reject those who betray Tamil values.' Selvaperunthagai also criticised the BJP-led central government for attempting to impose Hindi and a three-language policy in Tamil Nadu. 'Under Congress, we upheld the two-language policy. Now, the BJP is trying to push a third language. They won't let people worship in Tamil and want Sanskrit-only rituals. How can Tamil God Murugan accept this?' he asked.

Sanitary workers clean sewer lines without safety gear in Pallipalayam municipality
NAMAKKAL: Sanitary workers were reportedly seen cleaning blocked sewer lines without wearing protective gear in Pallipalayam municipality in Salem district. After recent rain, several areas in the municipality faced issues with blocked sewer lines. Sewer-mixed rainwater overflowed in several areas. The municipality sent sanitation workers to resolve these blockages. However, sanitary workers were working under unsafe conditions without wearing gloves and other protective gear, residents said. "The Tamil Nadu govt has been advised by the courts, including the Madras high court, on multiple occasions to train sanitary workers to utilise appropriate safety gear when handling waste," said Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) spokesman Dr PV Senthil. However, the recommendations were not followed, he said. 'Given the current inability to differentiate between hazardous and non-hazardous waste in public spaces, there is an increasing concern about the potential risks this poses to sanitary workers,' he added. 'People suffering from diseases are likely to spit in public areas. Sanitary workers contract diseases when they use bare hands to remove blocks," Senthil remarked. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Indian Stewardess Makes Headlines Worldwide medalmerit Learn More Undo Senthil urged the Pallipalayam municipality to educate its sanitary workers on the importance of using proper safety gear.
