An Erie Christian radio station, broadcasting to the region for 58 years, got a visit from JET 24's Loving Giving Local this week.
Dan Sheldon and Lori Clapper host the morning show on WCTL Radio 106.3. The Christian radio station has been delivering it's message over the airwaves in the tri-state area since 1967. Nothing short of a miracle on today's radio landscape.
'What we love is that 58 years later and in radio, we're still local,' said WCTL morning show host Lori Clapper. 'We broadcast the latest Christian music. We have fun programs. I'm part of the morning show from 6:30 to 10 am. So, we have a family-friendly morning show, which is nice.' She added, 'It's important for families because they can turn us on and not be afraid of what the kids might hear.'
WCTL Radio was the recipient of this week's Loving Giving Local of $250 from Auto Express.
It comes at a good time, according to Clapper. 'We have been in the middle of a capital campaign where we are making improvements to not only to our physical building here but to our on-air presence as well. We are just thrilled to receive this gift as part of that. sort of icing on the cake to just help us move forward and into the future,' she said.
After making the check presentation, Joe Askins of Auto Express said, WCTL has been on the air in our community for over 50 years.
'For us to be able to deliver Loving Giving Local here today and all they have going on at this location, we know the donation will go to great use, and that's what Loving Giving Local is all about,' Askins said.
WCTL is listener-supported radio. Besides the check from Loving Giving Local, there are ways you can help support his local ministry.
'Maybe you have something to offer that would help our building or help our on-air presence,' Clapper explained. 'We're open to discussing things like that as well.' And she added, 'If you're a business, you can also advertise.'
The radio station conducts a spring and fall share-a-thon to raise funds to support their work. Learn more about them

'The Appetite... Is Extremely Low:' Koenigsegg Says No One Wants Electric Hypercars

Christian von Koenigsegg joins a chorus of automotive CEOs skeptical of electric hypercars. Rimac CEO Mate Rimac raised the issue last year when he noticed a decline in demand for the Nevera , and just recently, Corvette boss Tony Roma said an electric supercar from Chevy won't happen anytime soon . In an interview with Top Gear , Koenigsegg said: "The appetite in the market for this level of car, fully electric, is extremely low." He added that "an electric vehicle is a bit more of a robot," highlighting one of the key challenges automakers are facing as they develop electric vehicles—mimicking the feeling of a combustion-powered car so many people enjoy. "You want the throbbing, the pumping, the heat, the sounds, the shifts, all of these aspects that just make it come alive," Koenigsegg told the publication, even though he loves the responsiveness and smoothness of electric vehicles. Without a combustion engine, that presence and personality are gone. Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Photo by: Koenigsegg But that's not something he's worried about right now. He told Top Gear that the company is completely sold out of products, so your next hope to own a Koenigsegg is when it launches a new model in 12 to 18 months. That's when Koenigsegg says the company will reopen the order books, and we're certain it won't be electric. It's not alone in evaluating EVs with a doubtful eye. Over the past month, several mainstream luxury automakers have reversed course on their electrification plans as demand falters. Some are admitting their plans have outright failed , while others are eager to continue producing gasoline engines . Either way, it looks like EV hypercars won't pose a threat anytime soon. Koenigsegg Has Run Out Of Cars To Sell

When the Jesko twins were offered to customers, Koenigsegg made an already exclusive hypercar even more special by forcing buyers to choose between the Attack and the Absolut. You couldn't order both. So when Christian decided to celebrate and effectively send off the Jesko with one last hurrah in the Sadair's Spear, it was no surprise to learn that all 30 units were sold out long before the general public even knew of its existence. But according to company founder and CEO Christian von Koenigsegg, who spoke with Top Gear, absolutely everything you've ever seen with a Koenigsegg badge is sold out: "All our models are presently sold out, we have nothing to sell, which is kind of good, but also annoying because it's fun to interact and supply enthusiasts with their dreams come true." So what's next? "We would love to have more, but we will introduce something new in one, one and a half years, then we'll open up the order books again," Christian continued. "The something new we are working on - and we have several projects - are very limited runs, which means they all need to be different, and they all need to have meaning." As a company always on the cutting edge of innovation, it makes sense for Koenigsegg to keep volumes low and technologies new, but even then, one's fingers can be burned. The Gemera was announced in 2020, just as the world went into lockdown, and at the time, it was meant to feature an innovative hybrid system that would see a 2.0-liter three-cylinder engine with camless Freevalve technology paired with two turbos, a dry sump, and a trio of electric motors. All of this was because a V8 couldn't fit. But by the time 2023 arrived, Koenigsegg had found a way to cram a V8 engine in the Gemera anyway, and in 2024, the three-cylinder option was canceled due to a low take rate. Finally, in November last year, it was reported that the Gemera was sold out. That arc suggests that Koenigsegg couldn't sell a small hybrid, even one as impressive as that. The Gemera needed a big V8. Related: Koenigsegg Sadair's Spear Gallery: The Craziest Koenigsegg In Pictures As Christian von Koenigsegg has indicated on numerous occasions, there simply isn't much "appetite" for hyper EVs. Thus, it's entirely possible that Koenigsegg might use its Dark Matter e-motor to give a combustion-powered Jesko replacement even more power and traction, but electricity will never be the sole source of propulsion. Bugatti-Rimac CEO Mate Rimac has even suggested that the Nevera's successor might not be all-electric, and that's arguably the most incredible EV on the planet. "After a while, you want to feel something, you want to talk to the beast, you want to have a dialog," von Koenigsegg told TG. "You want the throbbing, the pumping, the heat, the sounds, the shifts, all of these aspects that just make a car come alive." With the CC850 showing that a hypercar can be both relaxing and engaging in the transmission department, and the Sadair's Spear once again highlighting that tire technology is holding the world's hypercar manufacturers back to some degree, guessing what comes next is all but impossible. But we know it'll be good. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Could Smart Build Another Miata Rival? This Time, It's Electric

When Smart introduced the ForTwo before the world panicked over the Y2K bug, the company realized that it had a platform for a fun sports car. A few years later, the Smart Roadster was born, based on the Fortwo platform but stretched to accommodate the sleek styling. It was meant to revive the love for open-top sports cars in the Old Continent, before bowing out in 2005 after over 43,000 units rolled off its French factory. A Smart Roadster revival would be nice, and apparently, it's entirely possible given that the brand is already preparing a successor to the ForTwo. There's one big catch, though – the Roadster will be entirely different, thanks to Smart's EV-only strategy. In an interview with Auto Express, Smart UK CEO Jason Allbutt was asked if there's a possibility of a new Smart Roadster given the Fortwo's upcoming turn. Albutt recognized the "particularly good fun" that the convertible brought to the table before, and the UK's love of coupes and top-downs. "For a country that has more rain than probably any other European market, we are lovers of coupés and roadsters. So yes, I could see a possibility for such a car in the UK," said Albutt. However, Albutt emphasized that a Roadster revival isn't being planned yet, with the company currently focusing on the Smart #5 SUV and the Smart #6 hatchback. Both vehicles are electric, which follows the brand's strategy. That said, if – and that's a huge IF – Smart proceeds with the revival of the Roadster, it will likely be battery-powered. It also needs to be lightweight and compact to match the original's driving dynamics, while also incorporating the instantaneous pull that EVs are known for. With an electric Mazda MX-5 potentially sitting alongside an ICE-powered Miata – a car like the Smart Roadster would be a worthy rival. However, Albutt also expressed his reservations about an electric roadster. Apart from the sensory open-air feeling, he cited that buyers of roadsters typically open their tops to hear the sound of the engine. Of course, this isn't possible with an electric powertrain, though speed won't be a problem given where electric powertrains are these days. "Maybe there's a new audience that would be looking at [an electric roadster] in a different way. I'm not quite sure yet as to who the buyers of that car really are. It's too early to tell right now, but we'll see." Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.
