Buckingham Palace has been praised for delivering the "best response ever" to Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo's contentious video which seemed to lampoon Meghan Markle.
Sophie, who is expecting, was filmed apparently twerking in a video shared by Jamie on Instagram, garnering a divided response yesterday. Critics on social media accused the couple, who tied the knot in April 2023, of attempting to imitate Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's renowned "twerking" footage captured just before the Duchess of Sussex's hospital birth.
Moments after Jamie posted his video, supposedly taken inside Buckingham Palace, the official Royal Instagram handle "theroyalfamily" commented: "We see you" accompanied by eye and wink emojis. Joining in on the banter, The King's Trust chimed in with a post saying: 'All of our attendees are very well behaved' followed by watching eyes and a laughing emoji.
In reaction to theroyalfamily's message, a supporter of Jamie responded: "best response ever! This really made me laugh." Another user exclaimed: "Brilliant," whilst tagging the account, reports the Mirror.
Nevertheless, some Instagrammers criticised Jamie, currently a presenter on BBC Radio One, labelling his mockery "disrespectful". The 36 year old personality, famed for his role in Made in Chelsea from 2011 to 2020, can be seen dancing next to Sophie in what seems like the corridors of Buckingham Palace.
His dance moves mirror those fleetingly seen by Prince Harry in a clip of Meghan that went viral earlier this month.
"The Royal Baby has arrived" caption overlaid the viral clip, which amassed over 50,000 likes on Instagram. However, some users were less enthusiastic – one commented: "Disrespectful," garnering a handful of seven likes.
Another voiced their dismay with: "Diabolical behaviour." A third fan expressed their let-down, saying: "Quite disappointing. I like you guys normally."
Fellow celebrities also weighed in with their thoughts. Influencer Kerry Villers remarked on Jamie's expression: "I feel like you can see Jamie's excitement to become a dad in his face and it's pure joy."
Tele presenter Rochelle Humes, formerly of The Saturdays, recounted her own rush to capture an image inside Buckingham Palace, noting: "The speed that this happened is genuinely impressive. I just about got mine in focus for a sneaky pic."
Sophie, known from 'Made in Chelsea' fame (2017-2022), is seen beaming and swaying with her partner on the stately red-carpeted staircase with Royal portraits surrounding them. While it was a playful breach of protocol, Royal aides took it in stride.
A palace insider reported to the Daily Mail seeing the lighter side: "I'm sure it was done in a spirit of fun, and of course aligned to Jamie's wonderful support for The King's Trust Awards - even if it's not something we would greatly encourage every guest to attempt."
Yesterday, Jamie was present at a Buckingham Palace reception, rubbing shoulders with the likes of George and Amal Clooney, to spotlight The King's Trust's annual awards, celebrating some of the charity's most remarkable success stories.

Prince William and Kate's solemn holiday pact following short but rocky breakup

After reconnecting following a brief split, Prince William knew he couldn't let his then-girlfriend Kate Middleton go again, and the pair made their commitment clear with a heartfelt holiday vow Prince William and Princess Kate have now been married for 14 years, with thousands tuning into their fairytale wedding at Westminster Abbey in the Spring of 2011. But their love story very nearly didn't have a happy ending. The former university sweethearts, who fell for each other as students at the prestigious St. Andrew's, briefly parted ways in April 2007, when life as young graduates took them in different directions. Fashionable Kate, now, of course, one of the most influential style icons of modern times, was working in London for clothing brand Jigsaw, while William was throwing himself into army life. With the pressures to get engaged reaching fever pitch, the future heir to the throne began having doubts and broke off the relationship in a heartbreaking 30-minute phone call. Devastated, Kate was allowed to take a week's worth of compassionate leave from work, while William hit the town with pals, reportedly declaring "I'm free!" during a boozy night out at Mayfair's Mahiki nightclub. This is according to Robert Jobson's book Catherine, The Princess of Wales: The Biography, which details how, having nursed her broken heart, the future queen responded by also making sure to have plenty of fun of her own, stepping out on the town accompanied by sister Pippa. By the time William was back in his army barracks, Kate was still out enjoying the single life, with her glam look catching the eye of other eligible bachelors, including shipping heir, Sir Henry Ropner. William, then just 24, reportedly began to realise he could have made a mistake by letting Kate go. In June 2007, they were spotted talking for hours at a party thrown by mutual friend Sam Waley-Cohen. Apparently not wanting to miss his chance again, William invited Kate to a party at his Dorset barracks in Dorset, where the cheeky theme was 'Freakin' Naughty'. The rest, as they say, is history. However, like many couples before and after them who've taken a break, the pair needed time to reconnect and renew their commitment to each other. And while holidaying together on the dreamy Seychelles island of Desroches in August 2007, they made a solemn pact. In her book The Making of a Royal Romance, Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl wrote: "With a population of just 50 and three miles long, the paradise island was the perfect escape." The then twentysomethings, who checked into the five star resort under the names Martin and Rosemary Middleton, spent their days kayaking and snorkelling, but there were also some serious conversations to be had before they could move forward. According to author Katie: "For a young man who has an inherent fear of tomorrow, this was not easy for William, but the tranquil backdrop of the island was as good a place as any to discuss it." The writer went on to reveal that "William assured Kate she was the one", adding: "William, who had inherited something of his father's fear of commitment, knew he would lose Kate if he could not give her some form of guarantee. "They didn't agree to get married there and then; what they made was a pact,' a member of their inner circle explained. "William told Kate she was the one, but he was not ready to get married. He promised her his commitment and said he would not let her down, and in turn, she agreed to wait for him." Now, juggling parenthood with the duties of being Prince and Princess of Wales, it would seem that the royal couple have stayed true to the promise they made, all those years ago.

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis slams anti-IDF chants

Eavis, whose father Michael co-founded the festival, posted on Instagram on Sunday morning responding to rap duo Bob Vylan's set the day before. "Their chants very much crossed a line and we are urgently reminding everyone involved in the production of the Festival that there is no place at Glastonbury for antisemitism, hate speech or incitement to violence," she wrote. A post shared by Glastonbury Festival (@glastofest) She said that while "as a festival, we stand against all forms of war and terrorism - we will always believe in - and actively campaign for - hope, unity, peace and love", adding a performer's comments "should never be seen as a tacit endorsement of their opinions and beliefs". Eavis added: "With almost 4,000 performances at Glastonbury 2025, there will inevitably be artists and speakers appearing on our stages whose views we do not share." The rappers' set was streamed live on the BBC on Saturday, showing one of them shouting the slogan into the mic, with some of the crowd joining in. They also performed in front of a screen that claimed Israel's actions in Gaza amount to "genocide". The Israeli embassy posted on X in the hours after the set saying it was "deeply disturbed by the inflammatory and hateful rhetoric". It said the slogan used "advocates for the dismantling of the State of Israel". The post on X added: "When such messages are delivered before tens of thousands of festivalgoers and met with applause, it raises serious concerns about the normalisation of extremist language and the glorification of violence." Recommended reading: The Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said it will be formally complaining to the BBC over its "outrageous decision" to broadcast the performance. Avon and Somerset Police said they are looking at whether a criminal offence was committed. "Video evidence will be assessed by officers to determine whether any offences may have been committed that would require a criminal investigation," the force said in a post on social media.
