After breaking his neck, Shane is on a mission to change global travel
If you had a physical disability, you'd be angry but perhaps not surprised. This sort of customer service fail is common for people with mobility issues.
For those travellers (and 38 per cent of people over 65 identify as having some sort of disability), there are many barriers to getting around, but the most infuriating involve thoughtlessness, selfishness and bureaucratic laziness.
Shane Hryhorec is on a mission to raise awareness of what it's like to travel with a disability – and to challenge airlines, cruise ships, hotels and other travellers to do better.
Seventeen years ago, Shane broke his neck in a swimming accident. Today, he's an entrepreneur and disability advocate, and a finalist in the 2025 Australian of the Year Local Hero Awards. In 2016, he started the charity Accessible Beaches Australia, which increased the number of accessible beaches in the country from five to more than 60, with plans for many more.
He's also the force behind the viral TikTok travel series Wheel Around the World, which has 242,000 followers and has reached more than 100 million views online. His video of travelling in a wheelchair on an MSC cruise had 40 million views. And then there's his Instagram account, @wheelaroundtheworldwithshane, which has 35,000 followers.
You could say he is influential. He's also very, very funny. His brutal honesty and wry humour make him a must-follow. I'm addicted.
You can check the trailer for his latest adventure – 'Can I get around the entire island of Taiwan in a wheelchair?' − on his YouTube channel.

Britney Spears' notorious Mercedes going up for auction
Britney Spears' famous black Mercedes is going up for auction. The Toxic hitmaker was regularly pictured behind the wheel of the 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK350 in 2007 when her life began spiralling out of control and after the convertible spent almost 15 years on display at the Volo Auto Museum in Illinois, it is now being auctioned off. The museum are putting a number of their vehicles and vintage items up for auction between 1 and 7 August, including the Mercedes, TMZ reports. Britney was regularly followed by paparazzi during the time she owned the car and was seen driving through red lights in a bid to shake off the photographers, and the vehicle was also involved in a hit-and-run incident in August 2007. The Gimme More singer bumped into another car in a Los Angeles parking lot but charges were later dropped when she reached a settlement with the other driver. Perhaps most notoriously, Britney was in the Mercedes when she famously got out and attacked a paparazzo's car with an umbrella, having recently shaved her head. Volo believe the vehicle is the most documented celebrity-owned car of all time. Earlier this month, the 43-year-old star revealed she had bought herself a new car but "hates" it already. She wrote on Instagram: "Got a new car but I hate it. The roof doesn't come off, WTF !!! The pedals are not like my old car at all. I almost ran into my house, oh well !!!" Britney who regained control of her multimillion-dollar fortune and various aspects of her life when a conservatorship that had been governed by her immediate family was terminated in November 2021 - also bought a new car towards the end of last year but admitted at the time that she had "no idea" what it was. She said: "l'm driving in my new car. I have no idea what kind of car this is. I think it's a cheap "Corolla or something. But it feels like, almost like a, it just kind of drives by itself. Corrola is a model by Toyota, but when the camera panned around, the steering wheel revealed the Nissan logo. Despite her apparent confusion, the '...Baby One More Time' hitmaker was "excited" to be taking her new car for a spin. She said: "But I'm excited because I'm going to go ride horses. I'm excited, here we go. Yes, oh God. It just kind of drives by itself. But l'm excited because l'm going to go ride horses. I'm excited, here we go. Yes, oh God."

The Hills alum Lo Bosworth in double joy as she gets married and pregnant
Lo Bosworth is married and expecting her first child with Dom Natale. The Hills alum has revealed the couple tied the knot at her family's home in Laguna Beach, California on July 20, while they are also due to become parents in January. Sharing pictures from their special day on Instagram on Monday (28.07.25), Lo penned: "We said yes with joy. And life, with its most tender timing, said yes right back." The 38-year-old actress admitted the couple considered a lavish "New York City wedding", but when she started trying for a baby, they felt it was best to plan an "intimate" ceremony. In an interview with People, Lo said: "We wanted our wedding to meet the moment of where we're at right now. "I'm about four months pregnant, and before starting our fertility journey, we thought about a big, New York City wedding. Once our family plans got underway, however, we changed course to something we knew would be perfect if I was lucky enough to get pregnant: an intimate wedding with our closest family members enjoyed at home. We could take off our shoes, stretch out, enjoy great food and the beautiful décor, and relax." The couple's child is due two years after they got engaged in January 2024. Alongside a black-and-white snap of the couple embracing and flashing her gigantic diamond ring, she wrote on Instagram at the time: 'For you, my darling, it could only be a 'yes.' 'Thank you for being the best that one could be, for me. 'All my love, L.' It was not clear how long the pair had been dating before investor Dom got down on one knee. Lo previously dated her Hills co-star Scott Hochstadt for two years between 2009 and 2011. She was later linked to Shark Tank contestant Jimmy DeCicco, with the pair last seen together in 2020. The Laguna Beach star moved away from reality television in 2010 to lead a private life. Speaking on Bethenny Frankel's Just B podcast, she previously reflected on having her life play out on screen: "I served a very specific role, which I'm actually grateful for in hindsight. I didn't have to get into it too much. "But in the areas where I did, it still kind of haunts me to this day, because there's so many stories behind this story everybody saw on television that run very counter to what the public thinks of you." She now runs the Love Wellness brand, which she founded in 2016.

Julia Garner offers update on Madonna biopic
Julia Garner still believes she will play Madonna on the big screen. The Ozark actress was cast as the Material Girl hitmaker in 2022 but months later, the project was placed on hold and its fate has been up in the air ever since. However, Julia insisted on the SmartLess podcast that the biopic is "supposed to still happen". The Fantastic Four: First Steps star had been a fan of Madonna when she was growing up so knew she had to audition as soon as she heard the project was in the pipeline. She said: 'It just came about… like I knew that they were doing a project, making a movie about it, and then I went out to audition. I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it.' The 31-year-old actress has no dance training so had to learn how to move and then show off her skills in front of Madonna herself, and she decided to channel the Vogue hitmaker during her audition. Explaining she asked herself what Madonna would do, she added: 'Which is like convince you that she deserves… to be in this room. And I owned it. I was like, 'You can take it or leave it, but if you leave it, if I leave, then that's on you.' ' In July last year, Madonna revealed she was working on a new draft script for the biopic, which will be titled Who's That Girl in a nod to the singer's 1987 movie and song of the same name. Madonna took to Instagram and posted a collection of photos of herself working on the script with the caption: 'I Need A-lot of Bandz to make this ……….. OKAY. (Story of my life) (sic).' The film was announced in 2020, and writers Diablo Cody and Erin Cressida Wilson were brought on to help the Like A Virgin hitmaker with the script and screenplay. However, in January 2023, it was revealed the film had been paused indefinitely at Universal Pictures. After the movie was shelved, Madonna went on her Celebration Tour in October 2023 to mark four decades in the music industry, but reportedly resumed work on the project once she got back home in June in the hopes she could finalise the script with Universal. An industry insider previously told The Sun newspaper's Bizarre column: 'Madonna has only just finished her tour but in her mind it is on to the next project and fulfilling her dream of getting the biopic made. 'Julia is still her lead actress and they have remained in touch for the past year, talking through ideas. They are committed to creating some magic.' The 'Vogue' chart-topper had explained she wanted to both direct and write the movie because she wanted complete control over the project. She told Variety: 'I've had an extraordinary life, I must make an extraordinary film. 'It was also a pre-emptive strike because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men. 'So I put my foot in the door and said, 'No one's going to tell my story, but me.''
