Man rides bike through flooded streets of Surat; viral video sparks awe and anger
Amid the chaos, a video from Surat has gone viral, capturing a man riding a two-wheeler through waterlogged streets while others wade through the knee-deep water.
The video was shared by Brut India on Instagram (@brut.india) with the caption, 'A commuter was seen riding a two-wheeler while others waded through the flooded roads of Gujarat's Surat. A flood-like situation erupted in the city after incessant rains in the region since Sunday. Over 100mm of rainfall blocked roads leading to in the low-lying areas. The city received continuous rainfall on Tuesday, shattering a 40-year record. Several parts of Gujarat are expected to experience rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms until June 27th.'
The video has quickly gained traction, racking up over 710K views and 18K likes.

Many users were stunned that the bike was still able to function in such conditions. One user said, 'Whichever bike that is, they ought to use it for their company ad. Cuz damn!!'
Some users criticised the state of Gujarat's civic infrastructure and political environment. One user commented, 'I'm from Gujarat. This was destined to happen in a corrupt government and municipality. Nowadays even Rakhi Sawant will win in Gujarat with BJP's ticket. This is the level of political blindness in Gujarat.'
Another user pointed out the deeper problem behind the water logging, '100mm of rainfall = just 10 cm. This is a clear indicator of clogged drainage systems. Why do they clog? Coz people with zero civic sense and responsibility towards society think it's okay to dump trash on the road.'
A fourth user highlighted chronic mismanagement in local governance, writing, 'This just because of learned municipal commissioner and unlearned corporators. Every year, crores of rupees are swallowed for cleaning drainage and gutter lines. But the result is zero. If all drainage and gutters are clean, there is no problem of water or flood-like situation. And we people deserve this as we do not have guts to ask questions.'
Heavy rainfall continues to affect districts across the Saurashtra and South Gujarat regions, including Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, and Morbi. As of Thursday, 170 talukas were impacted by the downpour. Maliya Hatina in Junagadh recorded the highest rainfall with 135mm, followed by Mahuva in Surat with 121mm till 8 PM.

Watch: UP cop offers prayers to floodwater outside his home, calls it a ‘blessing'
A police official in Uttar Pradesh has described the floodwater inside his residence in Prayagraj as a blessing and has even offered prayers to the swollen waters—a video of which is now doing the rounds on the internet. Nishad describes himself in his Instagram bio as 'PSO Hon'ble Justice High Court Allahabad, national swimmer & UP Police swimming champion.' The officer, Chandradeep Nishad, has posted two videos. In one of them, the uniformed officer is seen offering milk and rose petals to the waterlogged street while hailing 'Jai Ganga Maiya ki' (Hail Mother Ganga). He shared the video on his Instagram account with the caption: 'Mother Ganga arrived at our house while leaving for duty this morning. Got blessings by worshiping Maa Ganga at my doorstep. Hail Mother Ganga.' In another video, Nishad is seen dipping into the water, which has risen above waist level inside his house. He also says, 'Thousands of devotees come to you (Ganga), but you yourself came to bless me.' He is also seen swimming in the floodwater while repeatedly chanting 'Jai Ganga Maiya.' The videos received mixed reactions online. While some praised his devotion, others expressed concern over the worsening flood situation. This monsoon season, heavy rainfall has led to severe flooding and waterlogging across several parts of northern India, causing extensive property damage and repeated disruptions. Most parts of Uttar Pradesh are expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall in the coming weeks, according to recent weather projections. Climate models, including those from the Monsoon Mission, suggest that the ongoing neutral El Niño conditions in the Pacific Ocean are likely to persist throughout the season. Meanwhile, the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) is projected to turn negative by the end of the monsoon. Due to these factors, the easternmost parts of the state—especially areas bordering Bihar—are expected to receive near-normal rainfall during August and September, while the rest of the state may experience above-average precipitation, according to a Hindustan Times report. 'At present, western and southern Uttar Pradesh may witness below-normal temperatures in August, whereas eastern UP is likely to record normal to above-normal temperatures,' said Atul Kumar Singh, senior scientist at the Lucknow Meteorological Office.

Asked whether Gurugram has become one of the worst cities during monsoon, she said, 'Absolutely, it's been an absolute nightmare. Just getting to work has become a daily ordeal,' and added, 'I can only imagine how much worse it is for people without the resources I have, people who don't have their own car or driver. It's just exhausting.' 'If I'm safe at home, I can enjoy the beauty of the rain. But the moment I need to step out, it becomes terrifying. I worry if I'll make it to work on time, if my car will break down midway, or if I'll be stranded somewhere. There's so much uncertainty,' Rana said. Blame Game As the visuals of submerged roads in Gurugram went viral, Haryana BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli blamed official negligence for the recurring issue. While acknowledging that the BJP is in power for a third consecutive term, he said, 'When it suddenly rains, we take actions to resolve the issues that come up. In many flooded lanes and roads, grass and mud is found stuck. Despite allocation of funds and sanctioning of cleaning work, there is a lapse on part of officials. We will work on it.' His comments came just a week after former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar downplayed the issue. 'Water fills up quickly in the underpass, but after 2 hours the water comes and whenever there is heavy rain, not just in India but also abroad, if waterlogging happens, after 1-1.5 hours it comes out, which means the system is fine,' he told NDTV. As monsoon continues and more rain is expected, many residents are left wondering how long Gurugram, once seen as a symbol of modern urban development, will keep buckling under the weight of its own infrastructure.
