BMW Charity Pro-Am raises over $16 million for S.C. charities

GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) — At the BMW Charity Pro-Am golf tournament, their mission is all about giving back to local charities.
For 25 years, the BMW Charity Pro-Am has been in 'full swing,' bringing a fun tournament to the Upstate while raising money for charities across the state.
'Oh, they love it,' Jeff Morris, Executive Director of Folds of Honor for the Palmetto State also said.
'They are calling me as soon as we are finished,' Chrystal Assadzandi, Charity and Volunteer Coordinator for the BMW Charity Pro-Am, said. 'I get a lot of calls saying 'how can we participate? How can we be a part?''
In 2001, the tournament was created to showcase the beauty of the South Carolina Upstate, while bringing locals, celebrities, and professional golfers together. It's aimed to raise money and awareness for South Carolina charities.
One of those charities that has been impacted is Folds of Honor.
'I have had many veterans come up to me and they are so grateful to have the opportunity to come watch a golf tournament, come into the hospitality suite, interact with other veterans,' Morris said. 'It is amazing when you hear them, and they just go in there and they swap stories.'
Morris said since Folds of Honor's involvement with the BMW Charity Pro-Am began in 2018, their group has been awarded around $250,000. The charity offers educational scholarships to the children and spouses of military and first responders.
Funding for Folds of Honor, along with the more than 50 charities involved in this year's tournament, is raised in many ways, including through donations, ticket sales, and volunteer programs.
BMW leaders said hundreds of charities have been impacted through this tournament over the past 25 years, and the money raised for them has not slowed down.
'We have given back in the past 25 years over $16 million to charities right here in the Upstate,' Assadzandi said.
The BMW Charity Pro-Am will run through Sunday, June 8. For the final two days of the tournament, it's being held at the Thornblade Club in Greenville.

Verizon's new deal is so crazy good that Reddit wonders if it's real

Verizon has been really struggling to keep customers happy lately. In fact, the phone carrier has actually been having a hard time keeping customers in the fold at all. In the first quarter of 2025, the company unfortunately reported a net loss of 289,000 total postpaid phone customers. This was a record net loss for the company, according to New Street Research Analysts. The net loss was also considerably higher than the same time period the year prior, when the company reported a loss of just 114,000 customers. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter Still, despite the record number of departures, the company did exceed both revenue and earnings estimates in the first quarter of 2025. This suggests that it's doing some things right. But it undoubtedly needs to solve the problem of so many customers leaving for other carriers if it wants to continue to meet or exceed its revenue goals. Verizon may be trying to address this problem now, and to earn some kudos from its user base and potentially improve customer loyalty. The solution: a new Verizon phone offer that's crazy good. The new offer is so good that Reddit users have actually expressed doubts as to whether it is a real deal or is too good to be true. Image source: Morris/Bloomberg via Getty Images Verizon's new deal is an unbeatable one because it includes a totally 100% free iPhone 16. Not only that, but you do not have to do a trade-in to get the free phone, and you do not have to change your plan by upgrading to a more expensive one. Of course, this sounds hard to believe, because being simply handed a new phone with no strings attached seems too good to be true. That's why a Reddit user who was invited to take advantage of the offer felt the need to post a thread on Reddit about the deal Related: T-Mobile makes AT&T and Verizon customers a great offer The Reddit poster said he received a text message that said, "As a way of saying thanks, a line on your account can upgrade to the iPhone 16. No trade-in required, and you can keep your current plan. Call 800.922.0204. Add'l terms apply." He was obviously interested, but he wanted to make sure that the offer was legit. Fortunately, other posters were quick to respond and say that the deal was actually valid. They pointed out it was from the official Verizon number, and others posted replies to say they had received the same offer, or a similar one that they took advantage of for a different free phone. With Verizon simply making a phone available for free, most people who can access this offer will probably want to take advantage of it. However, it is also worth noting that, like with most "free" phone offers, this typically comes in the form of a monthly statement credit for 36 months. So, if you get the free iPhone based on this deal, you'll effectively be committing to staying with Verizon for the next three years until you've earned enough credits to "pay off" the free phone you were given. Related: T-Mobile finally brings back long-awaited feature If you are planning to stay with Verizon anyway, this definitely should not be a deal breaker since most phone deals are structured this way and, the bottom line is, you are still being given a free phone with a starting price of $800 per month – and without having to get a new plan or give up your old device. Of course, you likely will have to pay the tax on the new phone, but that's also a small price to pay if you have an older device and have been waiting to upgrade. If you're hoping to take advantage of this great deal, watch your phone for a text from Vierzon to see if you get a targeted offer, or you can contact Verizon to see if you're eligible. More Retail: Costco quietly plans to offer a convenient service for customersT-Mobile pulls the plug on generous offer, angering customersKellogg sounds alarm on unexpected shift in customer behavior The deal appears to be targeted to current long-term customers or those with multiple lines, so it is likely part of Verizon's efforts to reduce the number of customers leaving and turn those numbers around for the next quarter. And what if you aren't a customer or offered the targeted deal? Verizon is offering a number of other deals worth looking at, including a free phone on any plan (with an eligible trade-in) as well as a 3-year price lock guarantee. So, you won't be left out in the cold. Related: Veteran fund manager unveils eye-popping S&P 500 forecast The Arena Media Brands, LLC THESTREET is a registered trademark of TheStreet, Inc.

2028 BMW M3 EV Caught Looking as Generic as Possible in New Spy Shots

The latest car news, reviews, and features. BMW intends to keep its gasoline-powered M3 sport sedan around for at least one more generation, but that doesn't mean the company is putting off development of an all-electric version in the meantime. Earlier this month, an M3 EV (iM3?) was spotted in public wearing production sheet metal, and while it's still pretty heavily disguised, the basic shape and those wide hips are clearly visible. The body may suggest a traditional 3 Series, but the Neue Klassse wheels betray its underlying electrical architecture. BMW is no stranger to building sporty electric four-doors, mind you, but expectations will be significantly higher for the M3 than they have been for the i4 M50. The latter has been successful and is indeed a fun car to drive, but it is not (nor was it intended to be) a world-class performance sedan. To that end, BMW is expected to bring to market a quad-motor powertrain to underpin its all-electric M lineup. BMW showed off a prototype based on the i4 years ago, likely before it had firmly committed to a Neue Klasse M3. The new platform will be designed from the ground up to take advantage of its next-generation electric architecture. BMWBlog says we can expect a configuration putting out 700 horsepower. That's a healthy increase over the gasoline-powered M3's current 500-ish horsepower output (depending on which variant you choose, of course), but based on what our spies are telling us about this prototype, the electric M3 may well weigh more than 6,000 pounds. At least, that's what the numbers on that placard suggest. Let's hope those are gross weights, because otherwise, well, they're some pretty gross weights. The Tesla Model S Plaid, which is nearly eight inches longer and four inches wider than the current M3, checks in at about 4,800 pounds. Its three-motor setup produces more than 1,000 horsepower. We're also getting out first glimpse at the electric M3's interior, albeit still heavily disguised. We can see the outline of some aggressively sculpted seats, as well as the chunky sort of steering wheel we expect to see on an M car. The rest is pretty well covered up. 3 Luxury SUVs You Should Only Buy New in 2025

If you are in the luxury car market and looking to get the best sports utility vehicle (SUV), 2025 might be just the year you have been waiting for. That's because there are several makes and models of SUVs that are considered high end and should only be bought fresh off the dealership lot in 2025. For You: Try This: You won't want to wait too long to make a decision since the year is almost halfway over, so take advantage of buying one of these cars now. Here are three luxury SUVs you should only buy new in 2025 at their market suggest retail price (MSRP). MSRP: $75,000 For auto expert and general manager at Findbyplate Ruth Caulkins, what makes a brand new version of the Genesis GV80 much better than a used one is its cutting-edge technology, the latest amenities that are nothing but pure luxury, and its impressive performance capabilities, especially for a car its size. 'With a new model of this luxury SUV, buyers can be guaranteed not just a comprehensive warranty and peace of mind of being the first owners of the vehicle, but will also get to enjoy its amazing agility and responsiveness on the road, which by far supersedes not just older models of the GV80, but also many of its competitors in the luxury SUV market,' Caulkins noted. Discover More: MSRP: $90,000 BMW updated significantly in 2024, particularly with the iDrive 8.5 package and hybrid assist on the V8, according to Alex Black, the chief marketing officer at EpicVIN. 'A 2023 used one becomes outdated too quickly. And with all the technology on board, you need coverage under the warranty, too,' Black explained, adding that some of the luxury features on the X5 M60 this year are the merino leather interior, panoramic roof, Bowers & Wilkins sound, and hands-free driving assist. MSRP: $130,000 The Lexus LX 600 Ultra Luxury, in Black's professional opinion, retains value better than most 'but 2025 trims add more advanced ADAS features and even better ride tuning. Older versions are stiff in comparison.' Black highlighted that this year's Lexus LX 600 Ultra Luxury comes equipped with rear captain's chairs with massage, Mark Levinson sound and real wood trim. 'In 2025, luxury is about high-tech capability, actual comfort improvements and improved driving performance — most of which you don't get unless you buy new,' added Black. 'Purchasing used on these? You'll likely regret not going new.'
