The government of the United Kingdom might be looking for a way out of its battle with Apple to get backdoor access to encrypted iCloud user data. The change of direction might be the result of continuing pressure from the US during the trade talks between the two countries.Senior British officials told the Financial Times that the UK is likely to back off from its demands to avoid a further clash with the Trump administration. The order was a point of contention between the two countries, and one official says that Vice President JD Vance was strongly opposed to the UK's demand.Earlier this year, the UK issued a secret order asking Apple to provide it with a backdoor, which would've given it access to the encrypted data and files of users worldwide. The demand was issued under the 2016 Investigatory Powers Act, which is also known as the Snoopers' Charter. Part of the order was that Apple couldn't notify users if their data security was weakened and couldn't publicly talk about it.Later, Apple disabled the Advanced Data Protection option for users in the UK, effectively removing end-to-end encryption for British users. The company refused to provide the requested backdoor access, challenged the order in a secret hearing , and later won the right to publicly discuss the topic.Meanwhile, various reports claimed that the demand sparked bipartisan outrage in the US. The topic was also reportedly brought up during talks between the UK and the US.Apple's Advanced Data Protection feature isn't turned on by default, but it provides extra protection on iCloud-stored data. The feature activates end-to-end encryption, which means that even Apple couldn't access the files.I was never surprised by the UK government's push against Apple, but I am grateful that there is backlash against it, and I hope this issue could unite people across the political spectrum. The UK is certainly not the only country that would like to get rid of end-to-end encryption under the usual pretext of national security, so we'll need to continue pushing against such moves.

This iPhone Fold rumor could actually be great news for the Galaxy Z Fold 8

iPhone Fold Galaxy Z Fold 8 iPhone Fold And what better rivals than Apple and Samsung?! By Odin's beard, let this iPhone Fold rumor be legit iPhone Fold Galaxy Z Fold 7 What about iOS? Apple's rumored battery size is even more interesting when considering that iOS is considered to be more power-efficient than Android. A 5,500 mAh battery on a Galaxy Z Fold 7 . Samsung cannot afford to let this gap grow, especially when Apple's entry into the foldable space will almost certainly bring mainstream attention to the category. If the iPhone Fold delivers two-day endurance (on a moderate usage), it will set a new benchmark for what users expect from premium foldables. The battery discussion also ties into another area where Samsung has room to grow: fast charging. While Chinese brands like Oppo and Honor have been offering 60W, 80W, or even 100W charging speeds on their foldables, Samsung's Z Fold lineup is still stuck with 25W wired charging. If the Z Fold 8 introduces a larger battery to compete with Apple, it will also need faster charging to remain competitive. A 5,000 mAh battery with only 25W charging would feel outdated in 2026, especially as competitors continue to push technological boundaries. And they'll continue to push them, I can assure you. The psychological side of things There is also the psychological factor to consider. Apple entering the foldable market is not just about specs; it's about perception. Apple's devices are often seen as the benchmark for quality and reliability. If Apple markets its foldable as having better battery life than the Galaxy Z Fold, it will instantly set a narrative that Samsung will have to counter. Samsung has always thrived on being first and pushing new form factors, but now it will need to refine those innovations to ensure it doesn't look like it is trailing behind. In a way, Apple's rumored 5,000 mAh battery could be the wake-up call Samsung needs. The next two years will be critical. Apple will undoubtedly make a splash with its first foldable, but Samsung has the experience and ecosystem advantage in this space – that's not to be ignored. If we survive 2025, we'll get to see 2026 and with it, two extremely important foldables will (allegedly) arrive:For this article's sake, I'm deliberately excluding other potential foldables from Google, Xiaomi, Honor, Oppo/OnePlus, Vivo, Huawei, Motorola. I'm focusing on Apple and Samsung not just because these are the two most popular brands in the US (and in the world), but also because there's something else that binds them I know: the current Galaxy Z Fold 7 has just arrived (it was unveiled on July 9) and hasn't been thoroughly tested by real world users yet. Its successor will be here in the summer of 2026, most likely. Theis more than a year away (it's probably going to materialize in late 2026). So why bother talking about such distant handsets? The future as a concept is something completely different when talking about the tech world. When talking about this or that person's future, things are sometimes extremely hard to predict, and it doesn't take much for life to take crazy, absolutely unimaginable turns. We all know how a billionaire CEO wasn't supposed to get his personal and professional life destroyed by appearing for five seconds on a kiss cam at a concert, but there you the other hand, smartphone predictions are easier (and more fun). First, there are multiple leaks, because the phone production process involves numerous suppliers, factories, and third-party partners, making it difficult to keep everything often finalize designs and components months before launch, so details naturally slip out through supply chains or certification databases. Additionally, we can speculate (with a great degree of certainty) about what a future phone will look like (or be like, generally speaking) based on its predecessor(s). And, based on its a spring of joy for those who crave large batteries in foldables: the upcomingmight pack a cell with a capacity between 5,000 and 5,500 mAh. Sure, that's behind the Oppo Find N5 (5,600 mAh) and the Honor Magic V5 (6,100 mAh), but it's Apple we're talking about here. If the rumor holds true, this could have a ripple effect that goes far beyond which has been on the forefront of foldables for years (in terms of popularity, at least), might finally have to push the Galaxy Z Fold 8 to match or even surpass this capacity. For context, the currentstill lingers at 4,272 mAh. While Samsung has made strides in optimizing power consumption through efficient Snapdragon chips and better displays, the reality is that battery life remains one of the most important aspects of a phone for buyers. So, if Apple enters the scene with a significantly larger battery, the pressure will be immense for Samsung to years, Samsung has been limited by the slim form factor of its Fold series, which leaves little room for a bigger battery without adding bulk. This is the challenge that all foldable manufacturers face, but Apple's rumored ability to fit a 5,000+ mAh battery in a device that's also thin could force Samsung to rethink its design philosophy. It could mean thicker devices or more innovative battery solutions like stacked battery technology, something that has been rumored for future Galaxy devices.

Forecast: Samsung to stay #1 in foldables, but its lead over Huawei will shrink significantly

The global foldable market is growing at a 'measured pace', writes TrendForce in its latest report. The main obstacles to adoption remain the same – concerns about durability, the crease and, of course, price. The analysts forecast that 19.8 million foldables will be sold this year, which would be 1.6% of the total smartphone market (about the same fraction as last year). Samsung is currently in first place on the global foldable market, though its lead over the competition is expected to evaporate – predictions see it going from 45.2% last year to 35.4% this year. This would put it only a hair ahead of Huawei, whose market share is expected to shrink slightly from 35.2% last year to 34.2% this year. That would leave just over one percentage point between the two companies. Several other makers are in the running – their shares are small but growing. For example, Honor and Motorola had 6% and 5.5% market share in 2024 and are expected to go up to 9.1% and 7.6% this year. The combined numbers for Oppo and vivo are predicted to capture 8.5% of the market. Meanwhile, Xiaomi will grow from 3% to 5.1% this year. TrendForce forecasts that the global foldable market will continue its slow but steady growth in the near future. One thing that could really shake things up is Apple entering the market. This may happen as soon as next year, with orders for foldable display panels already placed with Samsung Display. Apple is reportedly focused on eliminating the crease and using liquid metal to strengthen the phone. As for the third concern that people have, well, no one expects an Apple device to be cheap – least of all its first foldable. Source

Apple's Beats Studio Buds+ offer premium sound and a glorious design at a staggeringly low price now

Should you be waiting for Apple to release the long overdue AirPods Pro 3 (which may or may not happen this year) before purchasing your next wireless earbuds? Almost certainly not, as there are so many great options you can buy today at phenomenal prices with outstanding features and capabilities in tow. The Beats Studio Buds Plus, for instance, are manufactured by the same Cupertino-based tech giant behind your favorite mobile platform, natively supporting both iPhones and Android handsets, and somehow, costing just $84.95 at the time of this writing in brand-new condition. $85 off (50%) True Wireless Earbuds with Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, Spatial Audio, IPX4 Water Resistance, Class 1 Bluetooth, Up to 9 Hours of Uninterrupted Music Listening, 36 Hours of Combined Battery Life, Pocket-Sized Charging Case with USB-C Connector, Transparent Color, Brand-New Condition, 1-Year Manufacturer Warranty Included Buy at Woot True Wireless Earbuds with Active Noise Cancellation, Transparency Mode, Spatial Audio, IPX4 Water Resistance, Class 1 Bluetooth, Up to 9 Hours of Uninterrupted Music Listening, 36 Hours of Combined Battery Life, Pocket-Sized Charging Case with USB-C Connector, Ivory Color, Renewed Buy at Amazon That's incredibly down from a $169.95 list price, and if Woot's killer new deal happens to feel familiar, it might be because it's actually extremely similar to a promotion run by the same Amazon-owned e-tailer last month. The key difference is that your 85 bucks were only enough to buy you refurbished units back then, which obviously makes this latest offer (with a 1-year manufacturer warranty included) even more compelling. Equipped with top-of-the-line active noise cancellation, Transparency Mode, and a custom acoustic platform that promises to deliver "rich, immersive sound" both during your music listening sessions and voice calls, the Beats Studio Buds+ are arguably some of the best wireless earbuds money can buy right now and unquestionably among the greatest budget-friendly earbuds around. As in, you're probably looking at a top three (if not top one) low-cost product here, capable of eclipsing not just the expensive Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro or Google Pixel Buds Pro 2, but the likes of the Galaxy Buds FE and Pixel Buds A-Series as well in terms of bang for your buck. That would obviously not be possible without solid battery life and a stylish design, and without a doubt, the Studio Buds Plus also earn high marks in both those departments, keeping your favorite tunes going for up to 9 hours sans interruption, jumping to a 36-hour rating when the bundled charging case is also factored in, and perhaps most importantly, turning heads and blowing minds with a transparent "color." The see-through model is actually the only one sold by Woot at a crazy low price of $84.95 today, but if you'd rather get an "ivory" flavor and save a few extra bucks in the process, you can go on Amazon and pick up a "renewed" unit... with unspecified warranty conditions. Switch to a 2-month Total 5G or 5G+ plan with Total Wireless and score this foldable deal. We may earn a commission if you make a purchase Check Out The Offer
