Man Who Ranted About His 16-Year-Old Mercedes Said This After Fuel Ban Pause In Delhi
Delhi man breathed a sigh of relief after the government paused its End-of-life Rule that banned older vehicles from filling their tanks.
Shivrattan Dhillon recently took to X to express his strong disagreement with Delhi's fuel ban for older cars running in the city. The government's decision to combat pollution and encourage sustainable mobility by prohibiting older vehicles from refuelling with petrol or diesel sparked widespread online outrage. Many voiced frustration with the strict law, arguing that their older vehicles, though well-maintained and compliant with pollution tests, faced impoundment or scrapping if caught by cameras at select city petrol pumps.
Dhillon was among the many who voiced their anger, and his post about his father's 16-year-old Mercedes went viral on 'X' while resonating with many who found themselves in a similar sticky situation.
'This is my dad's 16-year-old Mercedes E280 V6 still running stronger and cleaner than most of the so-called modern cars that keep breaking down on roads. Every single button still works, and the engine? Still does 0–100 in just 6–7 seconds. Zero pollution, zero nonsense. But sadly, I have to label it a 'vintage scrap" just because we live in a country where politicians have zero love for cars! I challenge the government to prove it pollutes. They won't, but they'll still penalize it!" Dhillon wrote as he shared the photos of this family's Mercedes car.
End-of-life Rule On Hold
The rule that came into effect on July 1 lasted two days, after which it was put on hold.
'Delhi Chief Minister has assured residents that old vehicles will not be impounded arbitrarily. We will not allow old vehicles to be impounded. At the same time, we are committed to controlling pollution in Delhi," Delhi Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said.
This came after a widespread backlash from Delhi residents and criticism from opposition leaders.
'Delhi residents are already facing issues regarding End-of-Life Vehicles. The government has written to the Chairman of CAQM (Commission for Air Quality Management) and stated that it lacks the necessary infrastructure to implement the policy," he added as he acknowledged the discontent of the Delhi residents over the end-of-life rule.
Sigh Of Relief
As the Delhi government paused the End-of-Life vehicle impounding policy, Dhillon once again took to 'X', this time to express his happiness that the voice of the common citizen prevailed.
'DELHI GOVERNMENT TO ADJUST
VEHICLE POLICY
– Delhi government to modify vehicle policy, sparing old vehicles from scrapping
– Only polluting vehicles will be scrapped, not all vehicles
It feels like we finally made it grateful to everyone who supported us, especially the national news channels!"

He further informed that following his original post, he received several offers from potential buyers to purchase his father's Mercedes. He claimed he received upwards of 500 messages from people who offered him twice or triple the current price of an old Mercedes E280 V6.
'Received over 500 similar messages people offering double or even triple the current price for the old Mercedes E280 V6. It's heartening to see the love for classic machines still alive. There's something timeless about that old-school charm the pure driving feel. With modern cars, buyers test drive, analyze features, compare endlessly before deciding. But with these old Mercs, people are ready to seal the deal without even seeing the vehicle. That's the kind of respect cars used to command built to last a lifetime, unlike today's models that feel outdated in just a few years!(sic)"

Red Bull Boss Says Max Verstappen Wants To Stay Despite Mercedes Links
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner on Friday suggested that despite "all the noise", four-time world champion Max Verstappen is hoping to remain with the team next year. The 27-year-old Dutchman has been heavily linked with a move to Mercedes next season, with some Italian media reporting that Verstappen had accepted an offer. Speaking during an official news conference at the British Grand Prix, Horner conceded that exit clauses existed in the Dutchman's contract, which runs to the end of 2028, but added that he felt Red Bull were in a "fairly comfortable" position. "There's obviously an awful lot of people talking about it, but what's most important is the relationship between the driver and the team," said a defensive Horner. "There's an agreement that defines that, as well, and everybody's very clear on where we're at. "Max has been with Red Bull since the very start of his career. All his successes come in Red Bull Racing cars. He's a big part of our team and he has a great deal of faith in the team and the people around him. "So, whilst there's always going to be speculation and noise, I think we all sit fairly comfortable with where we're at and what the situation is. We can't control the narrative of others but internally, we know where we're at." Asked if he could confirm that Verstappen would be a Red Bull driver in 2026, when a new set of technical regulations are to be introduced, Horner stressed it was his and the driver's intention, but was unable to be categoric. "Look, the contracts between the drivers and the teams are always going to remain confidential/" he said. "With any driver's contract, there is an element of a performance mechanism, and of course that exists within Max's contract. "His intention is that he will be there and driving for us in 2026. It's inevitable that he's of huge interest to any other team in the pit lane. - 'Ignoring the noise' - "Actually, probably, George (Russell, Mercedes driver) triggered all this speculation, probably trying to leverage his own situation and force clarity, which you can understand because he's driven a very good season as well this year. "But inevitably, there will always be speculation about it. I think the most important thing is the clarity that exists between Max and the team -- and that's very clear." Horner repeated that Verstappen's contract runs until 2028. "He's made it quite clear that he would like to finish his career in a Red Bull car from start to finish," he stressed. "I think that's quite special and unique for him. That's what we're focused on. We're just ignoring the noise and focusing on the areas we know where we need to improve and how to do that." Horner added that 2026 was sure to be a transformational year with no guarantees. "It's the biggest rule-change in F1 probably in the last 50 years, where both chassis and power unit are being introduced at the same time," he said. "Nobody, with hand on heart, can know what the pecking order is going to be. "So there are no guarantees that jumping into a Mercedes car would automatically be a better proposition."

Lando Norris Tops Silverstone Practice As Christian Horner Quizzed Over Max Verstappen
Lando Norris thrilled his home fans at Silverstone when he topped the times for McLaren ahead of both Ferraris in second practice on Friday for this weekend's British Grand Prix. In gusty conditions at the former airfield circuit in central England, the 25-year-old Briton clocked a best lap in one minute and 25.816 seconds to outpace Charles Leclerc by 0.222 seconds. Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton, a record nine-time winner of his home race, was three-tenths adrift in third after topping FP1, his first practice success since last year's Las Vegas Grand Prix and his first with Ferrari. Championship leader Oscar Piastri, who leads Norris by 15 points, was fourth in the second McLaren ahead of four-time champion Max Verstappen, who spent much time grumbling about the balance and performance of his Red Bull. Kimi Antonelli was sixth for Mercedes ahead of Aston Martin's Lance Stroll, George Russell in the second Mercedes and RB rookies Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson. "That was a good lap from Lando," said McLaren chief Zak Brown. "But Ferrari look very strong here and they're fast on both one lap and on race runs." After a fevered break replete with rumour in the paddock Red Bull boss Christian Horner did little to quell stories claiming Verstappen was bound for Mercedes even when a chance to categorically deny it was presented to him. Max exit clause "Contracts between the drivers and the team are always going to remain confidential," he told a news conference. "And with any driver's contract, there is an element of performance mechanism and that exists within Max's contract. "Now, absolutely, his intention is that he will be there and driving for us in 2026. It's inevitable that he's of huge interest to any other team and in the pit lane." Horner's comments confirmed the existence of an exit clause for Verstappen that, it is widely believed, may permit him to agree to join another team if he is outside the top three in the drivers' championship at the end of July. All of this was only a slight distraction from Hamilton's performance in topping the times in FP1 for Ferrari, his first practice success since last year's Las Vegas Grand Prix with Mercedes - and he began FP2 in the same vein by clocking 1:27.280 to set the pace on mediums. After briefly being overhauled by the McLaren duo, he trimmed his time to 1:26.902 while Verstappen was complaining "Have you seen my front tyres in the high speed? They just don't respond". He was 10th after 20 minutes when Carlos Sainz, affected by the wind, spun his Williams out of Luffield and almost hit Nico Hulkenberg before Hamilton regained top spot from Leclerc by three-tenths in 1:26.592. The top men bolted on softs with 30 minutes remaining and after Mercedes briefly took control, Leclerc went fastest ahead of Piastri before Norris delighted his fans, in the grandstands named after him, in 1:25.816 to move clear.

Bindu urges Ciza to revoke suspension of KU registrar
Thiruvananthapuram: Higher education minister R Bindu urged Kerala University vice-chancellor in- charge Ciza Thomas to immediately revoke the suspension of the university registrar, K S Anilkumar. In a letter to Ciza, who holds the charge of the Kerala VC until July 8 during the absence of Mohanan Kunnummal, the higher education minister, who is also the pro-chancellor of the university, said the suspension of Anilkumar by the VC was carried out due to external pressure and was against the university rules. The minister pointed out in the letter that the VC does not have the authority to suspend the registrar. "According to the University of Kerala Act of 1974, the registrar is an officer appointed by the syndicate. Only the syndicate has the power to issue disciplinary actions and suspension orders," the minister said in the letter. Bindu also noted that there was no urgent situation at the university necessitating such a suspension, and it can reasonably be assumed that the VC's action was influenced by external pressure. The minister stated that this action was against the interests of the university and the higher education sector. Anilkumar was suspended from service on charges that he insulted governor Rajendra Arlekar and undermined the dignity of the university by cancelling a private programme attended by the governor over the display of Bharat Mata portrait on the stage.
