Knicks' Josh Hart undergoes finger procedure after suffering injury in playoffs
The New York star isn't expected to miss any time next season.

'He will resume basketball activities later in the summer,' the team said as part of a statement.
Hart, 30, played significant minutes during both the regular season and playoffs as the Knicks advanced to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2000, falling to the Pacers in six games.
The guard had averaged 35.7 minutes during the postseason while posting 11.6 points per game over 18 appearances, 14 of which were starts.
Hart appeared in 77 games — all starts — during the regular season, averaging a league-leading 37.6 minutes per game with 13.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists and 1.5 steals.

The beloved Knick is expected to play a large role for the team on both ends of the floor next season, even with the change at head coach that has seen Mike Brown replace Tom Thibodeau.

The Knicks are viewed as a favorite in the Eastern Conference heading into 2025-26, especially with several players from rival teams dealing with season-ending injuries.

That list includes Celtics star Jayson Tatum and Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, who both suffered Achilles tears during the postseason.
Brown, however, isn't looking at that as making things easier for his new team.

'It doesn't matter if those guys are injured: Teams are going to find ways to win,' Brown said during his introductory press conference last week. 'We don't feel like it's going to be any easier because of injuries.'

Still, having Hart ready to go for the start of next season will certainly help the Knicks' championship goals.

Billy Donovan lands extension with Bulls after Knicks' interest in coaching search
The Knicks' coaching search might've helped another candidate land an extension. Billy Donovan, whom the Knicks requested to interview after firing Tom Thibodeau before the Bulls rejected it, signed a multi-year extension to remain in Chicago, ESPN reported Sunday. The terms of the deal weren't immediately known, and negotiations initially started during last season, the outlet added. Billy Donovan reacts from the sideline during the Bulls' April 16 game. Getty Images But it'll allow Donovan to remain with the Bulls into the future after spending five seasons with the Thunder and then getting hired by Chicago for the 2020-21 campaign. He has collected a 195-205 record with the Bulls, and he helped them make the postseason during his second campaign before falling short in each of the last three years. In 2024-25, Chicago went 39-43 but lost in the play-tournament to the Heat. Billy Donovan talks with Coby White during the Bulls' March 13 game. Getty Images The Knicks made their request to interview Donovan early in their coaching search following their shocking decision to fire Thibodeau, but similar to their requests for the Mavericks' Jason Kidd, the Rockets' Ime Udoka, the Timberwolves' Chris Finch and the Hawks' Quin Snyder, they weren't allowed to move forward with him. Udoka secured a multi-year extension that made him one of the NBA's highest-paid coaches, while NBA insider Marc Stein reported that the Mavericks are expected to extend Kidd before the start of next season. The Knicks ended up hiring Mike Brown, the former Kings, Cavaliers and Lakers coach who will now be tasked with ensuring that a coaching change doesn't result in a step back from a run to the Eastern Conference finals.

Knicks Speculation Heats Up Around Former No 1 Pick
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Knicks have had an interesting offseason thus far. While they haven't shaken up the roster much, they have made a couple of key additions. Both Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele were signed in NBA free agency. They will both be asked to handle key roles off of the bench. In addition to the two impactful outside roster moves, the Knicks made a change on the sideline. Tom Thibodeau was fired after New York was defeated by the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. To replace him, the team brought in Mike Brown. Brown will bring a different philosophy to the team. Read more: Where Could LeBron James Go Next? Top Landing Spots If He Leaves Lakers With that in mind, New York should remain active in looking for more depth. One name to keep an eye on could be former No. 1 overall pick Ben Simmons. He is still available on the free agency market and the Knicks have been connected as a possible suitor. CBS Sports analyst Sam Quinn took a look at the top remaining free agents and their best fit. When it came to Simmons, he stated his belief that New York was the top potential landing spot. "How about the Knicks? The key to maximizing Simmons will be surrounding him with shooting. The Knicks have a shooting big man in Karl-Anthony Towns. The reserves they added this offseason, Jordan Clarkson and Guerschon Yabusele, can both shoot. Perhaps New York could lean on Simmons as a creator when Jalen Brunson goes to the bench," Quinn wrote. "He gives them yet another big wing to deploy defensively, and if they want to switch as much as they did in the later stages of the postseason, Simmons can do so. The pressure of Madison Square Garden is a potential issue, but we're talking about a 10-15-minute reserve here, not a star. It's a low-risk, high-reward gamble." Read more: Bulls Receive Disappointing Nikola Vucevic Update: Report Simmons has never been able to live up to the hype of being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. He has had some injury issues in recent years, but his confidence took a major hit with the Philadelphia 76ers as well. Last season, Simmons played in 51 games and made 24 starts between the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers. He averaged five points per game to go along with 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds. While Simmons may not be a star, he could end up being a great pickup for the Knicks' second unit should they choose to pursue him.
