Over 100 ministers and MPs take part in 'Ukhuwah Madani' programme in Port Dickson
The initiative, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's Madani administration, aims to foster closer ties between leaders and the people in a relaxed, inclusive setting rooted in shared values and solidarity.
It also seeks to normalise the practice of leaders engaging directly with the public, creating a continuous culture of ground engagement and offering citizens a platform to voice their needs, concerns and ideas.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, along with several cabinet members and Madani MPs, arrived at Kampung Sawah at 8.45am and were briefed by the village head before spending about 25 minutes at the site of the Sejahtera Komuniti Madani event.
The delegation comprised Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad; Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri; Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, and Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan.
They were later joined by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail; Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi; Human Resources Minister Steven Sim, and several other Cabinet members, who arrived at 8.30am at the Kampung Teluk Pelandok Fishermen's Jetty to take part in a jetty painting activity and engage with residents.
Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun was also present to show support, spending nearly 30 minutes at the jetty with the leaders and community members.
Saifuddin described the programme as a meaningful experience that allowed him to connect with residents, gain insights into their daily activities and explore the area's economic potential.
"This programme allows us to engage directly with the local community.
"We got to know some of their products, such as homestays. With this kind of approach, it becomes clear that Madani is not just about developing the nation, but also the individual," he told reporters.
The programme was part of the broader Ukhwah Madani and the Madani government leadership retreat for ministers and MPs in Negri Sembilan.
Among the key highlights were the free distribution of 3,000 fresh chickens to residents, Rahmah sales booths and various community activities, including a kenduri rakyat as well as meet-and-greet sessions with villagers.
Meanwhile, a group of 37 MPs arrived at the mosque within the Army Basic Training Centre at 8.50am to paint the mosque, joined by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
Army Training and Doctrine Commander Major General Datuk Marzuki Mokhtar expressed his appreciation for the contributions made towards upgrading the centre's mosque, which can accommodate over 3,500 congregants.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and members of the cabinet are scheduled to attend the kenduri rakyat at Dataran Kampung Pachitan this afternoon, marking the finale of the programme.

Anwar: Malaysia won't ignore Thai-Cambodia conflict
ALOR STAR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the government is not taking lightly the ongoing conflict between Thailand and Cambodia and its impact on Malaysia. Anwar said that although the situation in Malaysia remained stable and calm, the country must learn from the experiences of its neighbours. "I believe, as of now, the leaders of both countries appear ready (to cease attacks), but we must remain vigilant as the Asean region is geopolitically very strategic. "We in Malaysia do not take it lightly even though the situation in our country is stable and calm; we learn from the experiences of our neighbouring countries," he said when met by reporters after attending a closed-door meeting with PKR leaders from Perlis, Kedah and Penang here today. He said the conflict should also be addressed through diplomatic efforts, and both leaders had, in principle, agreed to halt the fighting, although there appeared to be some violations at the border. Anwar said he had contacted the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia and was optimistic that both countries would stop the attacks to allow a peace process to take place. "They (the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia) have given very good cooperation…. Both prime ministers told me, 'Anwar, thank you very much, we accept your role and we want you to carry on'," said Anwar. The Prime Minister said he had also asked Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to contact the foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia regarding the issue. Yesterday, Bernama reported that Anwar welcomed the positive signals and willingness shown by Bangkok and Phnom Penh in considering a ceasefire to prevent further conflict at the border of the two countries. Anwar was reported to have contacted Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai on Thursday afternoon to express Malaysia's concern over the escalating tensions. The media previously reported that Thai and Cambodian troops clashed on Thursday in a disputed border area, with both sides accusing each other of sparking the latest confrontation. Tensions between the two Southeast Asian nations have risen since May 28 following a bloody incident in the Preah Vihear area that claimed the life of a Cambodian soldier.

Zahid confident Kedah ready for leadership change
ALOR STAR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is confident that the people of Kedah are ready to bring about a change in state leadership for the sake of a more stable and prosperous future. Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, said that after two challenging and uncertain years, it is time for Kedahans to place their trust in leadership that genuinely prioritises their welfare and long-term interests. "What have the people of Kedah witnessed over the past two years? I pray and hope that things will change. A drastic shift is never easy, but it is not impossible. "InsyaAllah, Kedah will return to better leadership, one that truly cares for the people. Understand? Even if you don't, it's okay," he quipped during his speech at the Kedah Regional Development Authority (Keda) 4P and Rural Youth Planning and Implementation Committee Convention at Albukhary International University (AIU) here today. Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, expressed hope that the people would remain steadfast and committed in championing comprehensive and consistent reform. He said the role of the people is vital in ensuring the change they hope for becomes a reality through wise and deliberate choices. Zahid calls for 5G network expansion to rural areas
ALOR SETAR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for the expansion of 5G network coverage beyond urban centres to include rural areas. Zahid, who is also the Rural and Regional Development Minister, said digital inclusion is a fundamental requirement for holistic rural development. "In areas under the Kedah Regional Development Authority (Keda), Felcra, and other rural settlements, 5G should not be a luxury; it is a necessity. Even in villages, our children need fast internet for education and entrepreneurship," he said during the opening of the Keda 4P and Rural Youth Planning and Implementation Committee Convention at Albukhary International University (AIU) here today. He added that the ministry would hold discussions with the Communications Ministry and the Digital Ministry to coordinate the expansion of 5G infrastructure in strategic rural locations with development potential. "High-speed internet access will empower rural students, strengthen youth entrepreneurship, and enhance administrative efficiency in local communities," he said. Meanwhile, Zahid reminded grassroots leaders to remain present on the ground and not rely solely on reports. "We must be leaders who are with the people, not just on paper. We need to hear their concerns directly, not just through office memos," he said. He also said that integrity must be at the heart of rural leadership, warning that leadership without trust is like a house without pillars, bound to collapse under pressure.
